Chapter 58: Dared Her

Chapter Fifty-Eight – Dared Her

Jade sat on a tree, looking down. Dangerous thoughts went on in her mind. She hated almost everything now. The only one she loved was Stefan.

But she couldn’t bring herself to see him.

Her suggestion brought that upon him. She knew that. Still, it wasn’t like she wanted it to happen. He had also agreed to it, and that wasn’t because she had said so.

Also, according to Sigma, the injured Lycan annoyed the Prince, so he wouldn’t try sending someone to their pack again. It was more effective than a letter.

A sigh left Jade. She could only ponder on her thoughts alone, complain alone and sulk alone.

Because even the man she loved told her countlessly that women like her shouldn’t sulk. She should always be strong. And she wanted to be.

But all the resolve melted when in front of those two, Sorren and Cade. And it wasn’t because they were Lycan.

She sighed again, hoping the painful thoughts would leave her body and mind with the sigh.

High up in the tree, she noticed a figure moving around, holding a glass tray. Wasn’t that a cook? She realized, and jumped down from the tree. That was cook Jessika.

She could never forget how the bitch had looked at her, with that condescending smirk. Did she think because she wasn’t Lycan then she was a weak wolf?

She would surprise her.

As Jessika paced around Jade quarters, she overheard footsteps and turned excitedly towards them. A hard blow was sent to her face, knocking her balance.

She staggered but held the wall. "Jade... Lady Jade?"

"Oh, so it’s Jade to you now?" Jade cracked her knuckles. "I’d beat sense into you now, little shit."

What happened? Jessika began panicking. No one was supposed to be here. Also the punch Jade just gave her was really strong. Wasn’t she just a wuss of a Luna?

Another blow was sent to her cheek, and then another. Before Jessika could recover and dodge, her head was pulled to Jade’s. "Hey, hey, don’t try to faint yet!"

Impossible! Jessika immediately jumped back when Jade let go of her head. She wiped off the blood on her broken lips. "I’m not fainting before you. Don’t flatter yourself."

Flatter herself? Jade’s lips widened to a psychotic grin. Why did those words remind her of something annoying. Something she tried to sigh away earlier.

Years back, when she tried to take her late brother’s role as Stefan’s Beta, immediately after Prince Sorren had said he didn’t want it.

The response Prince Sorren gave her, the reason she secretly resented him. The reason she froze up before him, and Cade. Those words still hunted her.

"You, Beta? The past Beta might be your father but you’re not his daughter. You’re a Beta Werewolf which doesn’t equate Beta Lycan. DON’T FLATTER YOURSELF."

After those words, the Prince gave the role of Beta to a pack member’s son, who wasn’t even royalty and was rumored to be a troublemaker.

That’s why she hated Cade and could never stand him. Now, this maid dared to underestimate her, using those same words?! She kicked Jessika’s stomach.

But then, she noticed the kick was blocked, yet the effect made Jessika stumble back. The block made Jade realize that Jessika wasn’t just a cook, she was quite trained.

"I wouldn’t go easy on you then." her claws came out.

Seeing the claws, Jessika’s knees weakened. Lady Jade was definitely stronger than a warrior ranked wolf like her. She had placed her self in doom by daring her.

She dodged the next attack, then back flipped to dodge another kick. If those landed on her, she would take longer to recover, thereby risking more hits.

Her landing was unstable and Jade was already there, her claws swiped across Jessika’s face, so closely that Jessika thought she’d go blind. But it only pricked her skin.

She hurried back after the narrow miss. She had to do something. "L-Lady Jade. I’m... I’m sor—" she paused.

There was a moment of silence between them.

Jade’s lips curved on seeing him before her. "Cade, get lost. I’m just wiping off trash, it shouldn’t matter to you!"

Trash? Cade’s eyes darkened on Jade. A cook that saved the Alpha? A cook she burnt the Alpha for, as he refused to kill her? So she came to do it herself?

"I didn’t want to believe it."

Jade raised a brow. What was he talking about? Just then, a strong leg dived down to her shoulders, making her crash to the ground, face down.

She couldn’t have dodged that. Her senses became alert as he tried stomping down on her, she rolled away but met his other feet on top of her, where she rolled to.

She groaned in pain as she felt her spine creak.

"Cade... How dare... you treat me like an... animal?"

Those movements were quicker than she could expect. Was this the different between them all along? The difference between a Beta Werewolf and a Beta Lycan?

Cade glanced behind him, at the cook spitting blood. It hurt him, strangely, but he didn’t go to her. She had been avoiding him, after all.

For now, he had to make sure the bitch before him was locked up first before she hurt more people.

"You and Sorren... I’d surely get back at you..." Jade croaked painfully. "I’d surely get back... ah!" her hair was pulled up by Cade.

The Beta glared at her, his eyeballs straining. "No. You don’t touch Sorren or I’d skin your legs and feed it to you."

Jessika watched quietly, till the Beta pulled Jade by the hair to her feet. This treatment was more humiliating than before. And it was also very physical.

She watched the Beta push Jade out. The cook wondered if he saved her or only came to punish Jade?

A figure jumped down from the roof at Jade’s quarters. The cook hurried towards it. The figure was cladded in a robe, and smelled of incense.

Jessika wiped the blood of her lips so she wouldn’t worry. She raised her hand in the air. "A success, right?"

Her hand was slapped in agreement. "Aye!"

The hood of the robe was lifted and LAUREL flung her hair dramatically. "Even if that was some risky shit!"
