Chapter 57: Jade

Chapter Fifty-Seven – Jade

It was the morning of the third day since Prince Asher’s Lycan attacked. Yet the wolfsbane aftermath, scaly marks, won’t completely heal. They irritated Sorren.

Stefan covered his back, when his brother looked away. "Don’t worry. I’m not like you who worry about scars. I don’t care how many I get."

It wasn’t just the scarring. Sorren replaced the medicines in their box. "This wolfsbane had been tampered with. It somehow reduced the burn effect but it’s slow to heal."

"Or you’re just impatient." Stefan smirked. "It just has to heal till it doesn’t hurt anymore. I’d be fine."

Sorren held the medicine box and made to leave, but he stopped. "It was a cook, Jessika, who brought you in."

"I will thank her. I can’t forget that."

"Thank your mate as well. She had spotted you, then called the cook’s attention. If she had left you there..."

"If anything had happened to me, it’d affect her too. She knows that." Stefan retorted.

His younger brother smirked, turning to him. "So you do acknowledge that you two have a bond? She will feel your pain, and that’s probably what attracted her there."

Was his question if he could feel hers? Then he’d answer honestly. "Laurel doesn’t feel any kind of pain. Emotional or physical pain. Perhaps mental, but that’s all..."

"Isn’t it sad? Maids speak of how she was maltreated by her father, so your deeds are an addition to the suffering her father gave her. What makes you different from the man you killed?"

Stefan’s fists clenched. "How dare you compare...!" he held himself. Was he shouting at his little brother? Even while he was being truthful?

Sorren ran his hands through his hair as he walked away. "I’d come to check on your wounds in three hours. Reflect on your actions, because I don’t like Jade. There, I said it."

And what was that supposed to mean? Stefan watched the door slam loudly. He scoffed. Jade was his fiancée as far as he knew. They’d just have to get used to it.

He laid back on the bed, trying to get some sleep since Cade was handling everything. The door to his room opened and he noticed it was Jade.

"Jade, you finally came to see me?"

He got no reply. She went around his bed and sat on the ground, at the other side, behind him. He turned towards her. What’s with her robe cladded outfit?

Was she a widow, mourning? She even smelt different. Did she pour incense on herself out of sorrow? He shook the wild thoughts off.

Since Sorren had told him he didn’t like Jade, Stefan easily assumed that he and Jade quarreled after he fell unconscious. What’s that what she was sulking over?

"It’s unlike you to sulk, Jade." He told her. "You’re a strong woman, you know." That was another reason he kept her by his side.

He still got no reply. A sheet of paper was stretched towards him without she looking at him. He noticed the paper had tear drops. Was she crying? He read the paper.

"Kill the cook and the princess before..." the remaining words stuck in his throat. Jade wanted him to kill Laurel? And the cook who saved his life? Before tomorrow?

Why exactly where those two brought into the equation all of a sudden? Shouldn’t it be Sorren she was mad at? Or was it related to the two?

"The cook saved my life. The princess too, even if we’re enemies. I guess she’s just trying to garner favor from me, but I’d definitely not go easy on her. Don’t worry."

He didn’t know if his words sounded assuring enough but it really bothered him that for the first time, Jade wanted to specifically kill Laurel.

Even without knowing she was his mate, it was like her instincts were telling her things. "Jade?"

She still gave no reply. What was she playing at? Was she acting like a stubborn wife who wouldn’t talk to her husband till he fulfilled her wishes?

He really hated women like that, that was why he felt comfortable with her, who had little demands. "Jade!"

Hearing his increased tone, Jade turned a bit towards him but not fully. Stefan sighed. "As I said, I’m not killing them. And I assume we have an understanding."

No reply again. It was becoming infuriating. Since when did she even become a crybaby? Stefan left the bed and walked to his drawer looking for clothes to change into.

Maybe if she saw him trying to leave, she’d understand that he wasn’t going to play along with her. He noticed her leave the ground and inwardly, he smirked.

She was coming behind him.

"Well, Jade, if you are in better mood, we can try strolling around." He took off his shirt, and picked up another.

The sound of sizzling hot water came to his ears. And next, came in contact with his bare skin. Confusion befell him but soon after, a sudden excruciating pain.

Would his skin melt? No, would they fall off and never grow back? These were the thoughts that swam around Stefan’s head as anguish befell him.

He was snapped out of it when the empty kettle fell. His knees weakened and he knelt down before her.

"Jade... you!" Without hearing his words, she ran out of his room. "Jade! Jade!! That bitch...Jade!!" he screamed.

How could she pour boiling hot water on him?! While knowing his wounds weren’t healed yet?

Guards close to the Alpha’s quarters heard him, but after a figure in a robe had sped past them. "Lady Jade?" Could the person be the one the Alpha shouted for?

The figure sped past Beta Cade as he walked towards the Alpha’s quarters. He ignored it as he continued inside.

The only ones who ran around the Alpha’s quarters would be either Sorren or Sigma and he wasn’t in the mood for either at the moment.

"Why are you..." Cade trailed off as he heard the Alpha screaming. He was about asking the guards why they were trying to get into the Alpha’s room.

"Lady Jade ran off and the Alpha has been calling." A guard said, as Cade barged into the room. "Get Sorren!"

What the hell was this? He held up Stefan. His back... it was red and had burnt marks everywhere. Some parts bled, as wounds from the wolfsbane attack reopened.

"Jade... she just attacked me suddenly because I didn’t kill the cook and..." Stefan chocked on his words as the pain got worse when Cade tried touching it.

Cade left him and slowly rose to his feet. His eyes darkened on the kettle on the ground. Jade did this?
