Chapter Fifty-Four – Messenger
Zara warned. "The Alpha is injured but the younger brother said they would be letting it go."
Asher leaned on the wall, a serious expression came to his face. "Slime got badly beaten up too. I won’t let it go."
Wasn’t it his fault it happened in the first place? Zara began leaving. It was his shit to deal with. She had delivered the message that was brought to her.
"You can tell that to their messenger. He’s still down the mountain..." A form sped past her.
Was he really going to tell the messenger? She rushed down. Why did she try using sarcasm on that literal idiot? She met him but he just watched the messenger leave.
"Isn’t that a Lycan?" Asher asked when she got close.
"Obviously."
"They use a Lycan as their messenger? I thought it’d be a werewolf. You see, I have this new drug I made...." He paused, holding her hand that was going towards his face.
Zara looked livid. "So you were rushing down here to take the werewolf for your experiments? After I warned you!"
Asher dropped her hand and continued down the meeting. "Not only that. I wanted to ask the messenger about the Alpha’s brother. His letter was quite rude."
Zara raised a brow. The letter was rude? She had only read the heading. The Alpha’s brother had the rights to be rude. His brother got hurt due to the Prince’s negligence.
"Hey, Messenger! What’s your name?"
Zara looked up. Why did the Prince speak in commanding tones? Was he seriously offended by the rude letter?
The messenger stopped leaving. Zara studied him. He looked like a teenager, only bulky for his age.
The messenger replied. "Sigma."
"Who wrote this letter? "Is it truly a brother to the Alpha? What’s his name!" Asher asked consecutively.
"Huh? And who are you supposed to be?" Sigma asked.
There was painful silence, then Zara chuckled.
"Dear Messenger, you mean you don’t know the Prince of High Moon Kingdom?" She asked, hands on waist.
Asher looked genuinely stunned, almost insulted.
Sigma folded his arms. "Prince of...ah." His lips curved to a frown. "So you’re the troublemaker?"
There was another painful silence, but Asher broke it by dashing towards Sigma, and grabbing his arm. "You have some guts for a little messenger boy!"
But Asher didn’t think so. He felt it, the kid was more than a messenger, he didn’t even flinch when he grabbed him.
"Well, maybe that’s because I’m not a messenger. I’m just the only one that can run this far to deliver messages and Prince Sorren trusts me with his errands." Sigma said.
Asher let go of him. "Sorren. That’s the Alpha’s brother? And why is he a Prince?"
"Well, he was a Prince. I think because his father was a Lycan King before the attack." Sigma answered.
Zara shook her head. The messenger already answered Asher’s questions. She walked to them. "Say hi to Sorren from me. I am Zara. Acting Delta to High Moon Kingdom."
"Ah. I’m also a Delta." Sigma shifted his attention from Asher to her. "Nice to meet you, I’m Sigma."
She already knew that. Zara waved, then left them.
Sigma tried leaving too but Asher came in front of him. "What gave your Prince Sorren the guts to tell me, that his letter was a warning. He isn’t even the Alpha..."
"He said that?" Sigma gasped. "Well, you really pissed him off by sending that guy to our pack. But seeing you now, you look nice so I’d tell prince Soren to forgive you."
He patted Asher’s shoulders and walked past him again. Asher stared into space. Could it be the boy didn’t listen? Or he filtered what he responded to?
"You must really respect that Sorren."
Sigma turned as he heard him. He frowned. "You will too, if you keep up with your games."
Was that a threat? Asher faced him squarely. "How about I return you in the same shape Slime came back to me?"
"The Lycan that returned? He killed lots of our guard. He shouldn’t even have returned alive." Sigma replied angrily.
Asher’s claws slowly crawled out. "You think?"
Sigma backed away, stunning Asher.
"I’m not scared of you. You’re just a Beta rank, or Alpha rank, at most. But Prince Sorren was clear when he said I should be non-confrontational." Sigma said.
He was a Delta yet wasn’t scared of offending a Beta or Alpha ranked? He had the same stupidity as his Slime. Asher watched the boy leave, annoyance grew inside him.
"I hope that Sorren would be here for the Lycan Packs Meeting?!" Asher shouted.
"He doesn’t like travelling." Sigma shouted back.
Asher bit his lower lips. He couldn’t attend this important meeting that many Lycans would die to be at?
A smirk creeped to Asher’s face. Strangely, this Sorren seemed more interesting to him than the Alpha. He had an unhinged Delta to do his bidding, just like Slime.
When Asher looked up, Sigma was for gone. Indeed, he was probably the fastest for errands. "I’d be settling my score with you all at the meeting."
He turned to walk in but noticed a figure going past the entrance. "Father?" he caught his scent immediately. He rushed in and met him going towards his lab. "Ah, Asher." The King spread his arms for a hug, but Asher only stared at him. The King closed his arms. "Surprised to see me?"
Asher looked away. "Annoyed to see you. Are you about to drag me to a meeting? You could’ve told Nene to do it."
The King let out a guffaw. "But no, I came to see my son."
That was suspicious.
Asher leaned on the wall. "What’d you come to say? I heard from Nero that there’s an assassination plan against the King. Is that why you are here?"
The King grinned. "Sort of. Of course, the assassination plan wouldn’t work but I wanted to surprise our assassins in another way. Want to know?"
It was already obvious. He shook his head. "No."
The King let out another guffaw that annoyed Asher.
"Father, I’m happy that you’re happy but could you stop laughing when we’re being serious?" he sighed. "I’m very busy, my response is no, and that decision won’t change."
"Even if you find your mate?"
Asher glanced at his father. "Yes, even if I find my mate."
"Even if it gives you chance to destroy all werewolves?"
There was a mischievous edge to the King’s tone. He slowly walked to his son. "See, I changed your decision."
"Yes." Asher smirked. "Congratulations."
