Chapter 48: The Lycan

Chapter Forty-Eight – The Lycan

There should be no hostility between Werewolves and Lycans. After he was done getting the message to Asher, then he’d return to the Damancas fellow.

He followed the strongest scent within the vicinity and sighted a cart pushed out of the kingdom. The Lycan had stopped at the hunters’ base to have more.

He was now in front of the western border, closer to the maid quarters. For strange reasons, Stefan felt agitated. Could the Lycan had stopped at the maid quarters?

He tried to address it calmly yet he found himself kicking the cart down, spilling the living and dead people it had.

"Alpha Stefan! Alpha! Alpha!" the guards cried, on seeing him before them. The Lycan slowly turned to him.

He had thick short black hair, his eyes were the only thing darker than his hair and there was an ugly scar from his left eye to his neck.

"And you are?" he asked calmly. A part of him knew he shouldn’t treat the one before him like the other guards who tried to attack.

The guards rose from the ground, helping the injured, while carrying the dead away. The Lycan tried to get close to them but Stefan appeared before him.

"Get out of these land and don’t ever come here again."

The Lycan raised an emblem to his face. "I’m under special command from Prince Asher."

Stefan stared at the emblem, the same one that approved his pack into High Moon Kingdom. Still, he didn’t plan to suck up to anyone, especially when it involved lives.

He shoved it from his face, startling the Lycan. "And I said, you should get out and don’t ever come back. I was in the middle of something before your intrusion."

The Lycan frowned at the emblem that was shoved like a trash. "You’ve no respect for the Prince?!" his voice raised.

Stefan tried to stay calm. "And you have no respect for the Alpha of the pack you’re standing in?"

He was the Alpha here? The Lycan clenched his fists. "So what? The Prince wants these things for an experiment..."

The Lycan’s neck was grabbed, "Shut up already!" Stefan slapped him hardly to the nearest tree. The tree broke and it’s lower part fell on the Lycan.

The Alpha looked at the blood on his claws, disgustingly. "Things? Experiment? You think you speak of animals? That’s reminder that you weren’t. Now, will you leave?!"

A growl came as the Lycan’s reply. He struggled to push the tree off him, and glared at Stefan, despite the marks and blood all over his body. His clothes began to rip.

Stefan subtly worried that he caused more damage than needed. "Hmm, these guards are really weak if you got to kill them. Sigma can take that hit and still laugh."

When Stefan looked back, Sigma was really a strong kid. And Lycans and werewolves were different species. A normal Lycan was as strong as a warrior werewolf.

"How dare... how dare you interfere with Prince Asher’s requests...?!" the Lycan’s speech was now impaired.

Was he still rambling? Stefan turned his back at him. The guards had returned to their posts and the Lycan was in no state to fight. "As I’ve said, get out. I’d meet your Prince in two weeks. Then I’d offer my apologies and warning."

The Lycan seethed painfully when he realized he could barely move. He looked at his broken leg in anguish.

The attack was so quick that he couldn’t block. He wasn’t even sure if he’d have been able to block. He was dealing with a Lycan Alpha anyway.

Still, if he was returning to the Prince, he should expect even worse punishment for his failure. In that case...

The Lycan took out a bottle from his pocket. "The Prince will never forgive you. Whether you’re an Alpha or not."

The Alpha exhaled. He should stop rambling nonsense and leave already.

Until the Lycan was gone, Stefan couldn’t leave the maids quarters unprotected. His eyes widened when he felt a burning sensation being poured at his back.

Reflexively, he kicked back and the lycan crashed to the wall but quickly recovered and sped off.

Stefan didn’t have time to wonder on his recovery as his knees gave way and he held into his shoulders tightly.

Wolfsbane. Did that Lycan really use wolfsbane on him? He’d been careful not to kill a messenger of Prince Asher, but the same messenger’s last resort was wolfsbane?

With the scorching heat of the sun in the forest, the liquid heated up on Stefan’s skin and he could only swallow down the pain that typically lasted for an hour.

Meanwhile, watching the incident behind the trees were Jessika and Laurel. They were leaving Cade’s quarters, after delivering his shoes, when they heard the racket that a Lycan was raiding the hunters quarters.

Knowing the hunters were from her pack, Laurel pulled Jessika towards the crime site.

All she could catch was Stefan hitting a Lycan then the Lycan’s attack with wolfsbane. How fast these monsters moved were still stunning to her! She could barely see Stefan’s attack.

"W-What should... we do? How can we help? That’s wolfsbane, right? It kills immediately." She panicked. Elma paced about inside her as she could feel her mate’s pain.

It made Laurel wonder if Stefan felt her pain while being mean to her. She nudged Jessika, scared that if they just stood there, her mate would die.

She hated her reaction but if she did nothing, and her mate died, she wouldn’t escape the severe consequences.

Jessika was calm. "Wolfsbane kill werewolfs instantly but not lycans. It’d only hurt and burn. A strong amount could kill them but not what that Lycan did. His was liquefied."

Laurel’s heartbeat slowed down. "So, will we leave him..."

"Yes." Jessika deadpanned.

Laurel stared at her in disbelief. "Why?"

"Don’t you see? It’s a Lycan from the Lycan Kingdom that hurt him. The Lycan will pay and Stefan could be badly damaged permanently. We should let it happen."

But Elma was in pain. Laurel squeezed her face, then placed her hand on Jessika’s shoulders. "That can work but we gain nothing. It’s not like Stefan would die."

A sigh left Jessika. That was true. Only a conflict between their pack and the Lycan Kingdom would happen. It could end in total annihilation of Stefan’s pack and them as well.

"Why not... help him, Jessika. Take him back to the other officials. Garner their favor." Laurel nudged her.

Jessika’s eyes widened as she heard that. That had been her plan earlier, but since the incident with Lady Jade...

She smirked. "Lady Jade’s not here. I’d do it. Stay hidden, Princess." the cook sneaked out of their hiding place.
