Chapter Forty-Seven – Argument
Sigma sprang up from his seat. "I’d handle it. It’s a rogue."
There had been many sightings of rogues since they took Green Valleys. It was probably banished former members that tried to retake the pack as the Alphas were gone.
But the guard shook his head vehemently. "No, sirs. This Lycan is from High Moon Kingdom. We saw his emblem. He said he needs werewolves for his Prince."
Stefan’s eyes narrowed at the guard. "For his Prince?" There was silence in the room. Jade inched towards her fiancé, feeling threatened by the new development.
So this Prince Asher would use any werewolf, even a Luna like her? Because he surely didn’t know where his helper would have gotten those guards came from.
Cade raised his voice. "How far has he gone? Did he cross our borders to do this?"
The guard struggled to catch his breath, delaying his reply. "I asked, how far has he gone...." Cade threw the metallic chair he sat on, at the man. A form sped past him and took the hit for the guard. Cade’s jaw fell. "Sor-Sorren..."
A drop of blood left Sorren’s head and he wiped it off.
"Before you get mad, listen to him first!" Sorren scolded. "Don’t you realize he might’ve been the only survival? I don’t think Asher cares if the guards were dead or alive."
The guard found his tongue at that point. "Yes, the Lycan killed some of my men who resisted but still bundled them in his cart." his body vibrated visibly.
Cade’s right hand shook as he tried to suppress his anger. So the guard finally spoke after he accidentally hit Sorren? "Sorren, I’m sorry..."
"That’s not the point now!" Sorren snapped. "We are not going after that Lycan. You have to accept it, Stefan."
All eyes weren’t to the Alpha. Stefan’s expression was dark as he stared intently at his brother’s blood on the ground. Cade slowly backed away.
"Why won’t we do anything about it?" Stefan finally asked.
"It’s dangerous..."
Jade’s scoff interrupted him. "One Lycan is dangerous? Don’t insult your Alpha. How dare that Lycan barge here?"
"You are aware that he’s under orders from Prince Asher, right?" Sorren frowned at the lady. "And holds his emblem like the guard said. That’s what was dangerous."
That meant, whether they liked it or not, the Lycan was arrogantly expressing the desires of the Prince. It wasn’t a case of strength but of governing power.
Whatever action they take against the Lycan was against the Prince, as well. There were many other ways to handle it, peacefully, without spoiling relationship with the Prince.
Jade countered again. "So the Prince should keep sending Lycans to our pack to kill our pack members?"
She was concerned because she could be a victim and the last thing she wanted was another person suppressing her and taking the people she loved. Again.
Sigma returned to his seat, mentally and bodily leaving the argument. Since Prince Sorren didn’t want to attack, then he had no business in the argument.
Cade sat down with Sigma, though listened attentively to the point made, while keeping in the mind that the Lycan was already on his way back to High Moon Kingdom now.
"Jade, the victims aren’t our pack members, there are hunters of Green Valleys who swore allegiance to us." Sorren said coldly.
The guard looked up at him with teary eyes.
Sorren continued. "And this is the first time it’s happening. We could let the Prince know our pack’s werewolves are out of bounds and that’s solves it." He frowned, annoyed at the fact he had to talk too much. "And what should the Alpha do when he meets the Lycan... Kill him?"
Jade knew nothing else to counter with but she blurted out. "So he should allow that Prince to hurt werewolves under his pack, even when they swore loyalty to him?"
She was trying to stir Stefan, wasn’t she? Sorren narrowed his eyes at her, then ordered. "Sit, Jade!" She instinctively sat down, her heart beat rapidly rising.
Sigma smirked as he noticed Sorren’s eye color changed when he ordered Jade. He glanced at the Alpha, awaiting his decision.
"This could spoil your relationship with the Prince, Alpha." Cade contributed. "We already knew he was this way."
Jade frowned at him, but she swallowed her words since Sorren’s eyes were still on her. Stefan left his seat and she gazed at him. "Sorry, Sorren. But I’d be bringing back the guards. We can explain to Asher later."
A smug smile crept to Jade’s lips. It was the first time her fiancé sided with her, and not his younger brother? She checked Sorren but was disappointed to see him looking tired, instead of sad and defeated.
"Well, you never listen to me." Sorren sighed, massaging his throat. "I just talked at length for nothing." After that, Stefan sped out of their midst.
The guard watched him hopefully. The woods were the possible location where the Lycan came from. Stefan arrived there and picked up the metallic smell of blood. It was heavy so the guards must have been reduced greatly.
That spot was the western border of the pack, where the hunters kept watch in case of rogues. The next place the Lycan might visit would be Silent River Pack where the Damancas man inhabited.
Stefan rushed over there, being careful not to cross the border. The first thing he saw was a bloodied arm tied to the gate of the border. It made Stefan’s heart quicken.
That was a symbol Lycan Hunters used to mark their territory, surely that Lycan wouldn’t dare cross here. "Could it be the Lycan Hunter is the Damancas man?"
Stefan thought back on when he met the man. He didn’t seem of a powerful rank. Could he’ve hired a Lycan hunter because he feared sharing borders with a Lycan Alpha?
Stefan tore the decayed arm from the border. He wouldn’t allow this if the man was to be his neighbor. There should be no hostility between Werewolves and Lycans.
After he was done getting that message down Asher’s throat, then he’d return to the Damancas fellow.
