Chapter 46: Dining Table II

Chapter Forty-Six – Dining Table II

A mini ceremony was organized to officially celebrate making it under the Lycan Packs at High Moon Kingdom. Jade was the host.

But to Cade, this mini ceremony was just Jade showing off her ’awesome’ cooking skills that were actually backed up by rare spices brought from Jappongi.

He noticed Sorren walk into the room, eyes inside a book. Cade slid a chair out for him and Sorren sat on it without looking. Wouldn’t he thank him? He took out the chocolate he got from Jessika and extended it towards Sorren.

He knew he liked sweet things. Sorren took it but pushed it to Sigma, who sat besides him. "Oh, thanks. Thanks too, Cade." The boy was all smiles. Cade rolled his eyes.

Jade came into the room with a tray, filled with plates. "Thank you for accepting the invitation I sent out..." Jade started with a smile. "Today, I made..."

"I didn’t receive any invitation." Sigma interrupted, raising his hand. "I came because Prince Sorren said I should. Was there an invitation? I didn’t see any."

The host frowned, glaring at him. Didn’t he know it was metaphoric, or he was that dumb? Sorren, his eyes still in his book, brought Sigma’s hand down gently.

Jade continued. "As I was saying, I made rice, all kinds of stew you’d think of, as well, as the former Luna’s stew, the Gordon..." her lips froze, sensing the danger she got into.

The former Luna? Cade grew distressed as he glanced at Stefan. That was a sensitive topic to him. Sigma shifted towards Cade, making Cade look at him.

He inhaled sharply, seeing Sorren glaring at Jade. "No wonder she suddenly shut up." Cade tsked. If she’s trying to impress Stefan by making his mother’s recipe, she could’ve left him to realize it’s his mother’s recipe. Sorren was heavily sensitive to it. The Luna was his mother too.

Sigma gestured for Cade to say something to break the silence, while the Beta hoped on Stefan to save his fiancé from his brother. But the Alpha seemed absentminded.

"Uh... we can’t eat all these. W-Would it waste?" Cade blurted out, making Sorren return his eyes to his book.

Jade looked relieved as she nodded. "Y-Yeah, but eat what you can. The maids can have the rest, if you don’t."

"Ah, so you don’t mind the maids eating your food now? I thought it was the holy bread meant only for the Alpha." Sigma scoffed. "The cooks’ mistakes even taste better."

Cade agreed with a nod. A spoon flew towards Sigma but Sorren caught it before it hit him, the boy didn’t flinch. The Beta nudged him lightly. "Don’t annoy Jade when Sorren is mad at her. Weren’t you telling me to lighten the mood?"

Sigma dropped his chin on the table. "Okay, then. Can we start eating? Or we have to say grace first?" There was silence on the table again.

Cade rubbed his face, tiredly. The dynamics of the Alpha and his family were one of the strangest he’d seen. Stefan ignored anything Jade and Sorren did, except the former rarely caused trouble like Jade.

If Jade got into trouble, the Alpha was ready to defend her, no matter who was wrong. But that took a different turn when the one she offended was Sorren.

Stefan’s next words would either be, "You two should handle it," or "Jade, you should know better."

Or total silence. Like now. "Okay then, let’s eat." Cade broke the silence again, reaching for a plate.

Stefan broke from his daze and sat upright. How long had he been inside his head? "Thanks for the meal, Jade."

The werewolfess smiled, inching closer to him. "Sure."

"So, who’d join me to the Lycan Packs Meeting?" Stefan announced as he finally had all their attention at the same time. He’d just turn this ceremony to a meeting.

The meeting was in two weeks and that wasn’t yet sorted out. He noticed Sigma raise his hand but Sorren pulled it down. Stefan agreed.

The boy had already gone to High Moon Kingdom as a messenger, so till he accepted his role as a Delta, he couldn’t play an important role at the meeting.

But he didn’t bother tell him since Sorren wouldn’t want him going far again. "Cade, I understand you’d cover for me here. So Jade, and Sorren. Would any of you.."

Jade quickly interrupted, sounding slightly offended. "I’d go with you, of course. There’s no question there." If she didn’t go, some Lycan females could snatch up her fiancé while thinking a werewolfess like her wasn’t worthy of him.

Stefan nodded at her. His brother didn’t respond so it was likely a ’no’. "So we’d leave in two weeks. If there’s any business I should handle before I leave, let me know now."

There was silence again on the table which translated to another ’no’. Since it’s settled, Stefan smiled. "Alright."

"I actually have interest in the meeting."

Cade and Sigma snapped their heads at Sorren. "Why?"

"Well, because of Prince Asher." Sorren replied. "But I can’t make a day’s journey. That Kingdom is too far."

Stefan’s mind went to Zara, who said the Prince had a crush on him. He had interpreted it as Asher wanted to know more about him.

The feeling would’ve been mutual if not of Asher’s hatred for werewolves who Stefan had lived and loved all his life. So why was his younger brother interested in the Prince?

"Prince Asher torments werewolves. It’s a popular fact at Jappongi." Stefan said, in case Sorren didn’t know. Asher might not see hybrids as lycans and could generalize them as werewolves.

"Are you trying to scare me?" Sorren smirked. "He’d have to catch me first to torment me, isn’t that so?"

Stefan sighed. In hindsight, his younger brother and that Asher strangely derived joy from tormenting people. "It was a good thing you wouldn’t be coming then."

Those words made Jade panic because she was a pure blooded werewolf. Would she be meeting any danger if she attended the meeting?

While the thoughts were shared at the table, a guard crashed into the door, falling before the officials. They all became alert. "Alpha Stefan! Beta Cade! Please help us! A Lycan just arrived and captured my whole squad!"

A Lycan? "I’d handle it. It’s a rogue." Sigma left his seat.

"No, It was a Lycan from High Moon Kingdom. We saw his emblem. He said he needs werewolves for his Prince."

Stefan’s eyes narrowed at the guard. "For his Prince?"

Speak of the devil, and the devil appears!
