Chapter 45: Train Me

Chapter Forty-Five – Train Me

Frida was gone. It had been three days since then. Laurel took out hair out of the bun, and placed the hair pins on it.

She’d just taken a bath after doing her ten rounds around the quarters. She’s used to it and needed actual training. It was ridiculous, but she wanted Beta Cade to train her. For one, he’d definitely not go easy on her.

But before that, she turned to the person at the door. "You can come in, Jessika." The cook had told she’d visit when they coincidentally met last night.

Her face was puffed up and wet, she held a small bag of snacks. Laurel smiled. She must’ve worked a lot in the morning. Jessika collapsed on her bed and heaved a sigh.

"Goddess, this place is like a lion’s den. Everywhere you go, there’s something waiting to prey on you."

What had she gone through this morning? Laurel grinned. "Eh..? Who wanted to prey on you?"

Jessika left the bed and pointed at her face. "Lady Jade slapped me twice. For no good reason."

The smirk on Laurel’s face fell. What kind of monster was Jade? Jessika looked like she’d melt if the slightest force was used against her.

Laurel could only imagine how painful it had been. She tried to touch her face but Jessika winced. "It still hurts."

Laurel let her be, she forced a smile. "You could run away from here though. I don’t think they’d be a stir if you leave. You could disappear without anyone knowing."

If Frida could do it, then she could too. She knew where to go since she worked with Darren so Laurel was sure she’d be fine. But Jessika’s shoulders slowly slumped.

"I also met Beta Cade. And he told me to avoid Lady Jade but also asked my name and age. That’s it, he is trying to avoid me from ever leaving this place." She held her face.

Laurel couldn’t place why the Beta asked the information but she knew it wasn’t to stop Jessika from leaving. He wouldn’t know she had a place to go.

"You can wait here. I want to speak with Beta Cade about something." She made to leave the room. Jessika held her arm with bulging eyes. "Ask him what?"

Laurel proudly placing her hands on her waist. "I broke warrior rank. You are looking at a warrior wolf." She wore a smile that exuded pride, mixed with little arrogance.

"Eh? You just broke it now?"

Laurel’s proud shoulders lessened. Of course, as the Alpha’s daughter, that should’ve been her starting point. Still, she wanted to be glad for that accomplishment.

Her consistent training with Valkyrie helped her reach warrior level. She needed an advancement to master the rank or even elevate, and Beta Cade was her only clue.

But even after explaining all that to Jessika, the lady still held her firmly, begging her not to go as she wouldn’t be able to breathe before the Beta.

As Laurel walked to the Beta quarters, in the guise of delivering his washed boots from the maid quarters, Jessika decided to follow.

"I promised myself not to get involved in these kind of situations, yet, here I am." she mumbled as she followed. Laurel chuckled, holding her tightly.

There were no guards at the Beta’s quarters. "As expected from the Beta himself. I bet he can take a thousand men by himself." Laurel scoffed.

She really disliked his guts, but here she was about to plead with him to train her. She didn’t even have a reason she wanted to tell him. He was beyond reasoning after all.

The door to the entrance opened and Laurel inhaled. Jessika hid behind her, fitting her back perfectly. Cade walked out of the entrance wearing ceremonial clothes. "Oh, are we celebrating something?" Laurel tried sounding friendly, despite the quick disgusted look he gave her.

"Did Sorren send you here for anything?"

Laurel raised a brow. How close did he think she was with Sorren? "I haven’t seen the Prince for a while now, truly. I came to deliver your shoes..."

"Then you can surely do that without starting a small talk with me, can’t you!" the Beta raised his voice, making Jessika whimper behind Laurel.

Laurel glanced at her, before bringing forward the small bags of snacks that Jessika brought. "Ah Beta Cade, this is my friend, Jessika. She brought these for you, to thank you for your kind advice, earlier today."

Both Cade had Jessika had a dumbstruck expression. Laurel placed the snack in his hands. "Here. And since you’re in a hurry, I’d relay my request to you, later." She made a small bow as she entered the quarters.

Jessika bowed quickly and followed Laurel. Her skin hair stood when she realized the Beta’s eyes were still on her. He must hate her for attempting to give him snacks. She bit her lower lips. "And I really wanted the princess to have a taste of the snacks I made."

Cade looked from the cook, to the snacks he was given. It was chocolate cake. "What did Sorren say about these gifts again? If a lady gifted a person chocolate, it meant she liked the person, right?" He shut his eyes tightly.

Shouldn’t he have refused the gift immediately? "But then, what was wrong with a cook liking me?" The maids fawned over Sorren and while Cade didn’t care, he wouldn’t mind being fawned over.

He sighted Sigma coming towards his quarters, so hid the snacks in his clothes. "And what do you want?"

Sigma swiftly turned around, and hurried towards the Alpha’s Quarters. "Hey!" Cade called the boy but Sigma only fastened his steps.

Cade rolled his eyes. "So the ceremony isn’t happening, right? I should return to my quarters." He stopped walking, waiting for Sigma’s reaction.

The boy paused, then turned with a frown. "Prince Sorren said I shouldn’t speak but let you know that the ceremony is beginning...ah!" he placed his hand on his mouth.

A chuckle left Cade. Sorren said he shouldn’t speak but still let him know? The kid was the only one who still fell for that prank. He held the boy. "Let’s go then."
