Chapter 412: Reacting

Chapter Four Hundred-Twelve – Reacting

When Sorren’s carriage started moving, Zeldris rushed to the first carriage.

He frowned deeply on seeing Thales already in. Why did none of them give him alone time with he Princess?

Thales felt confused. Wouldn’t he be happy that they’d be at different carriages? He saw Zeldris jump into the carriage and it began moving.

Laurel didn’t know why he was adamant about staying with her but she didn’t really appreciate it since it meant two guards to stop her from eating her snacks.

However, she fell asleep ten minutes after the ride started. It shocked her to her bones when she woke up to see herself on her bed, and the crown of flowers besides her. How many hours had passed?

She rubbed her eyes and left the bed. "I hope snacks are still around?" she murmured as she washed her face and rinsed her mouth.

Could it have been Thales that used magic to put her to sleep? Or her body was that weak from everything she did the other day?

There was something sweet was outside the door and she wondered if Jessika came to her with more snacks. Her eyes weren’t opened yet but she could smell it.

"Aww, Jessika, I should marry you. Did you bring me snacks for—" she opened the door, paused, stepped back and slammed the door at his face.

Why did Stefan’s scent become that tantalizing all of a sudden? It shouldn’t mean anything, should it?

"Um... Sorry, Laurel but I was yet to even knock when you opened." Stefan tried to suppress his laughter. She would marry whoever brought snacks for her?

It gave him so many ideas. He had established that food was the way to her heart so he just needed to learn to cook and serve her food for the rest of his life.

That’s another skill he had to learn from Sorren.

Laurel hid her embarrassed face with his hand. She expected him sending someone to call for her but for him to do it himself. Did he miss her that badly? She his her reddening face and cursed herself for her reaction.

Stefan tilted his head, wondering why she hid her face and seemed red. He exhaled. She must’ve been asleep and his presence woke her up? She shouldn’t be that alert in her own place though.

Laurel cleared her throat and took down her eyes. She looked Stefan dead in the eye and said. "About my visit to High Moon, my report is everything went well and the King is serious about his decision to stop bothering werewolves."

The Alpha nodded. "Sorren already said that, you didn’t have to make a report to me since I didn’t send you there."

Laurel hummed. Then why else did he come to see her? She stepped out of room. "Do you have something else to discuss? About the pack or about the illness—"

"I just wanted to know how you’re feeling since Zeldris said you’ve been asleep, and that was four hours ago." Stefan replied.

Laurel did the match in her head and it might seem that she slept for eleven hours, not her longest streak. "I see. I was quite tired."

She wouldn’t dare on what since it was on basically nothing of importance. "I am doing fine, anyway." Did she just come to her to ask about her wellbeing? Well, it was more intentional than his random letter. "You like me, right?" she suddenly asked.

Stefan stopped walking, but a smile came to his face. "Very much. Believe it or not, you have a really admirable spirit—" he bit his tongue. Why did Kai make him do that?

"She asked you if you liked her! Not if you found her admirable, fool!" The wolf screamed in his head.

Laurel watched him wince in pain over something so normal. She chuckled hiding her face again. She couldn’t really tell what she was doing with him, but it felt more natural. She could feel the mate bond and despite the guilt in her heart, she wanted to roll with it.

This was her first confession anyway, whether or not she has asked for it. She cleared her throat when she noticed him staring at her and not even secretly. "Please, don’t act like there’s more to my face." She made a strained chicken stayed quiet.

Stefan frowned a bit. More to her face? The same face his warriors gawked at when she passed or did she not notice? "Do you want me to praise you?" he noticed he’d fists clenched and stepped back. "Maybe not."

She must truly be joking if she thought she didn’t have an enviable face. For one, Cara who was all about looks always liked staying close to her because she’s pretty. Cara had such habits. "You were a Princess so you probably got a lot of those compliments."

"It’s funny how you still think I lived the ideal Princess life." Laurel slowly walked to the ballroom. Stefan followed her with a quizzical expression.

"In a way your attack to our pack saved me from my father’s madness and even if it took a while to show you, I did and now have complete freedom.... I will soon."

Stefan hummed. She picked a really good time to speak of the independence of her pack. He didn’t mind giving it to her since it would make Damancas more lenient with their relations with Black Thorns.

"Do you want it right now, Laurel?"

Laurel stopped moving and spun around. Would he give it to her right now would be the right question? "Do you want something in return? Why would you be so lenient suddenly?"

It hurt Stefan that she still assumed wrongly of him but he knew it had been greatly his fault. "I told you before, I regret a lot of things I did."

"Not everything, right?" she raised a brow. He once spoke about how he could never regret everything he had done and while she respected that, it still displeased her. Stefan said nothing and she continued walking to the hallroom. "Of course, its okay if you don’t. They’re many things I don’t also regret in my dealings with your as my captor." Stefan didn’t follow her still. Someone he felt like he had shifted her mood to something sour again after trying to make it happy. There were some things he could change after making an oath and avenging his dead parents were one of them. Being able to do it, to make his path true had greatly made him happy so he couldn’t act like it didn’t. Of course, as a victim, Laurel couldn’t just swallow it but he hoped she didn’t bother about it too much.

"Laurel..." he dipped his hand in his pockets as he remembered. It wouldn’t be enough to apologize for some things but he desperately wanted to be something to her.

He would forget the past and only think of the future, their future. He’d leave her pack of she wanted, but he needed to know that he’d be accepted inside if he needed to see her.

Laurel stopped in front of the door, and glanced behind her. He wasn’t the only one who wouldn’t regret their actions. It wasn’t because of jealousy, but she had been the reason he broke up with Jade and all the things Jade ever did yo him had been done by her. Of course, he’d never know this and that’d be his prize to pay for hurting his mate, a hurt back.

He got closer and she tried to turn, but his warm hands went over her shoulders, brushing her neck slightly. She froze and her face reddened. Was he trying to back huh her? All of a sudden? Then she felt a cold metal gal on her chest and looked down. Her eyes siften9on the jewel. A necklace?

It looked familiar and she remembered the one that Marino had helped him pick at Kleon pack. She smiled, touching it when he was done. Seeing her smile, Stefan felt very satisfied. He tilted his head and asked. "Do you like it?" "Uou know I do." Laurel looked away. Didn’t he buy it because Marino called his attention to it. "I did get something for you so this is equal—"

"We aren’t trading gifts, Laurel. This has nothing to do with the flowers you got me." He sounded a bit serious.

A smile tugged at the corner of her lips and she shrugged, and continued to the ballroom. "Sincw you suggested leaving Green Valleys, we should discuss the procedures."

"It had already been discussed with my officials. But if they’re specifics you need us to speak on then that’s fine by me." Stefan followed her to the hall.

A maid stood at the corner, eyeing the Alpha discreetly. She bowed to the Princess while having a questioning expression. Why didn’t the Princess shout when that creepy alpha got all the way to her room to call her out?
