Chapter Four Hundred-Seven – Two Confused, And A Third.
"Just eat, Princess Laurel. Why do you want to remind me when I already forgave your stupid race for it?" . Asher said with a venomous tone.
Laurel folded her arms. Now that she knew that he didn’t suffer as much damage as she thought and the damage was equal and even less than what she suffered, she didn’t appreciate him talking down at her or her race
"What if you didn’t lose as much as you thought?" Laurel shrugged. "Compared to me, you have your father and kingdom, and childhood friend, Zara."
Asher’s eyes darkened a bit on the thought of Zara not being alive as well. At some point in his life during the war, he had already expected his father’s death.
Not his mother’s and that’s why it had hit him so hard.
"That is yours and Black Claws problem." He glanced at Sorren. "For now, just eat—"
"A brother." Laurel interrupted. She was getting impatient with him dismissing her all the time and just wanted to say it out even if the connection wouldn’t make much sense. "You thought you had a brother!"
Thales and Sorren face palmed together. That was too random. How did she know? How was she sure of the gender? Does are important questions?
Sigma looked up on hearing about a brother of the King? He remembered something akin being the King’s relative and turned to Prince Sorren.
"You guys found a brother of the King too?" he wondered if they were more relatives of the King.
Asher stared at Sorren and then at Laurel. What were they saying? He had searched during the time when he felt strongly that his mother might’ve birthed a child during her bondage with Lunaria, but no child was found. He had already thrown away that hope and it shouldn’t be rekindled again.
Yet, since Laurel and Sorren were involved, two people that he knew weren’t stupid enough to raise force alarms that’d annoy him, a part of him wanted to hope a bit more.
"Do you know about my sibling, Sigma?" he asked the easiest person to get answers from.
There was an emotion in his voice that made Laurel smile. "I found out about it recently."
A needle pricked Thales at heating that but he exhaled and played along. He noticed the confused expressions on Zeldris’s face and realized that he totally forgot to brief Zeldris about it on their way to High Moon.
"Your mother did have a child at High Moon Kingdom and he suffered quite a fate." Laurel went on to narrate an elaborate narrative about a midwife from Lunaria.
The midwife had taken care of the Queen’s child and had handed her to a warrior of Black Claws when the Black Claws Alpha went to attack Lunaria.
The midwife returned with them and raised the child with the Lead Warrior. She had died during the war that happened at Black Claws.
"And the child?" Asher asked immediately, looking at Laurel squarely. Meanwhile Laurel was enjoying the suspense she left him at as she took a spoon of good.
"Sorren continued raising him and he grew up to be a fine man and official of Black Claws. You can do a test." She wrapped up and exhaled.
That didn’t give Asher a conclusive answer and his fists clenched. Did she make all that up in the first end for it to have a crappy end?
Sorren raised the child? As a child or what?
"Um... you didn’t say who the brother is." Sigma reminded Laurel when he saw her eating from her plate. "Apart from me, there’s no other person that Prince Sorren raised and became an official."
Asher wanted to agree before he paused and turned to Sigma. A child that became an official and that Sorren raised. That’d be exactly Sigma. His age matched too.
Sigma hummed as he thought. "Is it Dylan?" he turned to the King who was already looking at him. "Your brother might be Dylan. He’s a good guy, not an official though, but can be the next Lead Warrior."
He nodded at his words, feeling proud of his friend. Asher felt confused. "D-Dylan?" he turned to Sorren and Laurel for answers and they adverted their eyes
Laurel could see another reason they shouldn’t have told Sigma. He should’ve been taken by surprise with all.
Now he was making his own theirs and somehow they made sense since Sorren had been a total mother back then and had more than one that he raised.
She felt Zeldris nudge her mind link and she turned to him. His face said it all, he didn’t know what was happening. She looked at Thales and shook her head.
So they were two persons on the table who were confused and had no idea who the star was. The star didn’t know he was the star even if he’d been told and was suggesting another as the star.
She cleared her throat and all eyes came to her. "King Asher, he must’ve forgotten but Sigma is the only official raised by Prince Sorren and by my research, the one saved by the midwife that year."
A lump grew in Asher’s throat and he looked down, not wanting to show weakness in the room. He couldn’t even look up at his alleged brother as Shane befell him.
Instead of causing trouble with werewolves, he should’ve been looking for his brother that he knew he had. That way, Sigma wouldn’t have suffered a tragedy of his parents and midwife dying.
Sigma frowned a bit. Wasn’t he only a relative to the King? What’s this about being a brother? "Princw Sorren only said that I’m the King’s relative and that I had a bad magic of some sort that’d kill me. The midwife part is—"
"That will kill you?" Asher snapped his head to him.
Sigma hummed, touching his stomach. "It happened that time. Something Lunaria did so I’d not leave long. I don’t even know why anymore."
Asher’s fist clenched buy slowed released. He had gotten past his grievances with Lunaria. He couldn’t forgive them but he wouldn’t act on them.
He had more at stake now. He nodded. "I see. So Sorren raised you after the war... alone?" he faced Sorren while asking Sigma.
Sorren proudly drank his soup without looking at the King of Sigma. Sigma nodded. "He took care of Dylan too and helped me break ranks easily."
Asher hummed. Breaking ranks wouldn’t be hard for him in the first place as a child of two Lycan royalties. Asher didn’t know that he’d ever feel the need to be grateful to Sorren who he disliked.
"I’d take some samples from you, Sigma. After my own examination, I’d speak again on this matter." Asher said with a serious tone, even if he’d already accepted it.
Sigma was an adorable young man so he wouldn’t make a bad brother, and even if he turned out not to be the one, he’d make him one.
Sigma had no idea what he needed his samples for, or what samples he needed but he nodded, expecting Prince Sorren to handle it for him as usual.
Laurel exhaled when she finally said out the big lie that had been bothering her for a while. As long as King Asher doesn’t know it was actually Thales who discovered it, then all would be fine.
"How did you know this though, Laurel?" Asher said, pointing his spoon at her. He locked eyes with her and frowned a bit when she only stared back.
Laurel looked away nonchalantly but that’s because she didn’t know how to answer it, but it wouldn’t be a problem. She just had to not answer the question well.
"I lost many people this year, so I went to different places and got information on voluntary sometimes. Also the midwife told some people a bit of Sigma so yeah, from here and there."
That had to be the most random response Asher had heard but he slowly nodded because he didn’t know how else to construct the question and get the right answer. She obviously didn’t get the full information by herself but she must’ve linked the connection so that’s good enough for him. "Do you want something in return for doing this? I don’t think you just told me because ’it’s the right thing to do’, right?"
Laurel scoffed. Did he think she wouldn’t do anything unless there was something she’d gain in return. Well, he wasn’t entirely wrong but he made her sound greedy and selfish by phrasing it like that.
"Keep your promise and never hurt werewolves for no good reason. If you have a problem with a werewolf pack or official, I’d like to be in the know first. I’d also like you to start trades with surrounding packs to enhance the good relationships. That’s all I need."
Asher exhaled and shifted his eyes to Sigma. His eyes softened and he dropped his spoon. That might work, the last part would be hard but he’d see what he would do about it. "
