Chapter Four Hundred-Five – The Trader
Laurel nodded. Magic was quite conveniently sometimes, she’d agree. She popped around the dark alley and recognised it as the one she was attacked in the first time she came to Dark Moon. She also remembered Thales being the one to find her and take her to Lady Zara’s place. She smiled at those memories as she walked out of the dark alley. "Where should we go next?" Thales turned to her. Why did she ask him when she was the one who wanted to go out? Lest with him, he’d have gotten a mad habit of stalking Lady Zara within her quarters but he really didn’t want to do it. That was why he rather followed the Princess to do all the playful things she wanted to do. He wouldn’t mind getting attached to her since she was younger than him and he wouldn’t be romantically attached. He pointed ahead. "There’s a recent cloth sale out therem it’s the craze these days so you might want to check it out."
Clothes sale? Laurel looked down at herself and nodded. She was wearing something she could easily change out of. She began marching towards the place with alacrity.
Meanwhile at the King’s palace, Sorren and Sigma stayed in the living room attached to the rooms they were given. Sorren felt better that Sigma seemed to have forgotten what they came for and was looking at a book that had different weapons.
He remembered when Thales had spoken about Sigma’s unfortunate negative flow of magic and how it reminded him of something Baxter had said.
Sigma having a bad memory, being unusually strong body, and having the wrong perception of things was as a result of harmful things done to his body at an early age. But both he and Baxter had no way of knowing what those harmful things were and since they had assumed he was a bredded Lycan, they thought it was something maltreatment that affected his brain as a child. "If this has actually been done to make him an imperfect Prince of High Moon..." Sorren mumbled. That must be what the witches that did that were going for, he being brain dead or incapability of holding normal conversations. And usually if a prince showed such signs, he’d’be discarded as useless and his older brother would’ve been the golden child. Sorren smirked. Thanks, he was the one who raised Sigma and when he had noticed those traits, he had innocently assumed it was how toddlers were, incapable of basic understanding of pain or happiness. He had been patient in teaching Sigma how to react to things and trained him to be strong, something that others wouldn’t have done for him if he was born and raised at High Moon Kingdom.
There was a knock on the door and Sigma left his seat to open it. Sorren exhaled when he sensed it was King Asher. He wondered how Sigma would react when he remembers.
The door opened and Sigma walked out, passing the King without saying a word and with his head buried in the book he was looking at.
Sorren wanted to explain but the King followed Sigma. Sorren facepalmed. Of course, the King wouldn’t let that slide. He heard them coming back again.
"King Asher..." he trailed off. The king’s decision had definitely been forced on him, there’s not mistake about it. His face had lost some weight and his eyes had dark eyeballs underneath. Also, his head had grown really long and he let it fall on him. He was looking like the female version of himself but with a sprinkle of depression. "You must’ve been forced to make the decision you made." Sorren said, leaving his seat. He wanted to take out Asher’s hand that held Sigma but stopped himself and sat down somewhere else.
Asher looked around the room and rolled his eyes. "This room was prepared for Sigma who I invited. Why are you here—"
"I invited Prince Sorren." Sigma answered. "I don’t know much about the topic that you’d speak to me about so I asked Prince Sorren to come to assist me." Ashes hummed. "Is that so? What topic do you mean?"
Sigma turned from Sorren to him. Didn’t he invite him here to speak on something with him? "The reason I was brought here—"
"Oh there’s no reason." Asher waved dismissively. "I just need all the fun I can get, you see." His frowned at Sorren. "You also came to protect Princess Laueel, didn’t you? Well, I didn’t let her stay in the palace so you can go out to be with her."
Sorren raised a brow. Did he look like Princess Laurel’s bodyguard? "You are really a changed man? I bet the Princess would be touched that you considered her."
Asher rasped. That idea wasn’t even his own, and he still didn’t see the use of her being in a cottage thay was still within the palace. "I’d borrow Sigma from you then."
Asher pulled the boy away. Sigma turned to Sorren and Sorren forced a smile, it faded when the two were gone. His fists clenched. It was a good thing that Sigma had somebody else now so things should work well.
He noticed the door of the room was still open even if the King and Sigma were gone. He sensed a different person standing by the side.
"Do I know you?" he asked.
There was a ’tsk’ sound out there and a young girl walked into the room. She stared down at Sorren. "it seems you Green Valleys ’ people are really sharp."
Sorren could guess she wasn’t even a full adult yet and her body was covered in bruises. Since they were quite recent, was it the King that did that to her?
"Are you part of the King’s spies and assassins?" he asked her. "I’m only asking because of your wounds."
The girl’s face loosened. She also senses that the person she spoke to wasn’t a werewolf as she thought but a half breed. Also, when he spoke, she realized it wasn’t a pretty woman but a pretty man. She was done being flustered with beautiful people so only shrugged. "Spy I guess. I was demoted to that after my comrade got killed at Silent River. Where are you from exactly?"
Got killed at Silent River? Was it the silent river he knew or from another place? He checked the possibilities of Darren killing an assassin and it seemed low since he was just a trader, a quote suspicious one, but then he had Lycan hunters as friends so it’s possible he has employed them to kill the assassin and his people caught him.
"I am from Black Claws. A recent addition to the packs under High Moon Kingdom." Sorren replied. "What’s your name? I’m Prince Sorren."
He was bored and relaxed on the chair he sat. If this young girl could tell him all he needed to know about the Silent River that could kill a Lycan assassin then he’d gauge how dangerous Silent River can be as an enemy. Not that he could see them being enemies in the closest future but just to be thorough.
"I am Sam. And isn’t Sorren a feminine name?" the girl leaned on the wall and crossed her legs.
Sorren raised a brow. That was the first he heard that but she probably only said that because of how he looked. "Well, names are subjective, aren’t they? About your comrade that was killed at Silent River pack. Was it the one close to Green Valleys?"
Sam nodded. "I would’ve joined him but thankfully, I didn’t. Also, I’m over it but if I see that Pack Leader, I might break him myself."
Sorren hummed. She seemed to have a specific grievance towards the Silent River leader. Did she think he was the one who killed her comrade?
"The King has been suspecting him for a long time, because he has a close relationship with the King and Queen and even had two Grand Witches who were respectful to him. Also, he has his name in the lineup of those who could become the King of Damancas. Though he’s very low in the rank but he’s there. He’s not just a trader as he parades to be." Sam folded her hands and kept them in her pockets. "Well, the King wants to let it all go so I can only do the same. Or try to."
Sorren exhaled after hearing all that. The part of Darren being amongst a lineup of future Kings was quite scary. So that seemingly harmless werewolf had even the faintest chance of being the King of Damancas, a home of Lycan hunters and Grand Witches, all enemies to lycans? He gulped down nothing. Those still didn’t say that Darren was dangerous though, he only had dangerous connections but that could be because of his birth, he might still be a normal trader.
Sorren shook his head, taking the thoughts off his mind. It might be best not to think too much about it since Silent River and Black Claws are in good relationships.
