Chapter 404: Accept Her
Chapter Four Hundred-Four – Accept Her
"I will accept her no matter what anyway. A mate is who the Moon Goddess said would be perfect for me so no matter what, she’s perfect."
For a split moment, Escanor forgot about the princess and imagined his own special person and the feeling of how great it would be.
A smile came to his face and he stared at a distance. Then he snapped from his thoughts and felt guilty, "I mean..." he turned to the Princess and was surprised that she looked at him with a smiling face.
The Princess looked away from him. So that was how it felt to have a mate? Smiling and looking away at a distance.
She had only felt something similar with her children.
But she had felt the direct opposite, staring into space with anger and hate and wanting the object being stared at to be destroyed in the worst way possible, with Stefan during her days in prison.
He had truly brought out all the bad things in her.
"I see. I truly understand you and I hope you find your own special person." She rubbed his back.
Her words made him warm and cold at the same time but it was a proper reality check. She was obviously not his mate so he had to halt his delusions sooner or later.
"Thank you." He mouthed.
Few hours later, they reached the low lands that signaled the entry into High Moon Kingdom.
Laurel mind linked to Zeldris but he was tired and panting heavily from all the running he had to do.
Thales laughed at him and took the snacks he stretched to him. "For the Princess?"
Zeldris nodded slowly, while lying on the seats.
Thales teleported to the roof and bent down to where Escanor was. "Ah, for Princess Laurel. Give this to—" a feet slammed his head and he fell back but teleported back to the carriage on impulse.
Laurel raised her clenched fists from the carriage. "Stop bullying Zeldris, Thales. Or you’d get more face kicks!"
Zeldris cheered weakly before collapsing and Thales couldn’t hold his laughter anymore, while slowly pushing Zeldris out of the carriage again.
The three carriages were allowed into the gate of High Moon Kingdom, and Thales’s carriage had to be wait back for Zeldris who was running back to the carriage after being pushed by Thales again.
Sorren showed the guards Sigma’s invitation to the dinner party and wanted to explain that he came as Sigma’s guests but the guard easily asked him to move along, with reddened face.
Sorren sighed and signaled for the rider to go ahead. Laurel handed her invitation letter and the guard looked it over many times and even called another guard to have a look.
Laurel turned to Escanor who looked back at her quizzically. Was there something wrong with the letter?
The guards nodded between themselves and handed her the letter.
"Miss, you are the first top guest of the royal family. Do you want us to send you to a special cottage? It was stated that you should not be sent to the King’s palace as you might not like it there."
Laurel didn’t know how to reply.
Was that Asher actually being considerate of her since he knew he had trapped her in there and might not want to stay in his palace again? That was odd.
Did he have a full transformation from the annoying Lycan he was or he actually had such kindness in his heart?
He only agreed not to kill werewolves so there’s no way he’s now a changed and good man.
Laurel nodded to the guards. "Yeah, take me." She glanced at Escanor who nodded. With the rules on ground, they just had to follow the guards to a cottage and enjoy the comfort.
She noted to them that the second carriage came with her and the they were all taken to a cottage but still in the same environment as the King’s palace.
Laurel jumped down from the carriage and looked around. They were beautiful flowers and some plants planted in the courtyard.
A beautiful serpent shaped fountain in the middle of the courtyard and decorations were hanged on the door.
"Wasn’t it just a dinner party? Is the King celebrating a festival?" she asked herself but a guard heard her.
The guard bowed as he replied with a smile. "We are celebrating the end of the war fifteen years ago. The dinner party the King invited you too is an after-party, I suppose. The festival happened two days ago."
Laurel slowly nodded.
It must’ve been hard for him, or more eventful. Every festival he must’ve held so much resentment in his heart as it was the death of his mother that ended the war, that’s why he wanted to start it again.
If he could make such a decision to stop harming werewolves within the same time as when he was usually reminded on his grievances towards, Lady Zara must’ve done a really good job convincing him.
She helped Escanor and Zeldris bring down the gifts, till she saw them floating and going into the cart themselves.
She smiled at Thales and removed the horses from the cart. Zeldris rushed her and did it himself, she frowned.
"Why are you doing everything that we should do?" Escanor asked behind her. She pushed her to a seat and sat her down.
Her face slowly released. The last time she stayed at a cottage at High Moon was when she came with Sorren and Stefan and those things were things she did without questions.
She had forgotten that her roles had changed now. She relaxed on the seat and something came to her mind. It would almost be a year from the incident that happened in their lives.
She wasn’t thrilled to celebrate her birthday but in retrospect, she got the freedom she wanted and the love... maybe?
But she was definitely cared about by her friends, children, and officials so that was still a huge difference from the Laurel of back then.
"If only Lena could’ve seen how well I’m doing now." She sighed. She watched Thales hit Zeldris with some of the floating gifts and Zeldris charged at him.
She chuckled. She couldn’t really tell why Thales was quite troublesome that day but she was glad he was having fun.
Afterwards, maidens delivered food to the cottage and even if Laurel would’ve preferred being asked what she wanted to eat first, she didn’t mind the delicacies that she saw.
Her officials were stunned by the food as well as it seemed too lavish for people like them that weren’t directly connected to the King.
"He had even given us top guests cards. Are we very sure that he doesn’t have ulterior motives?" Zeldris said while looking at the food suspiciously.
Escanor hit his back lightly while kicking. "The food did nothing to you. My cousin always says the food of your enemy is innocent, so accept it.*
Zeldris squeezed his face. Did his cousin ever consider the food being poisoned though?
Laurel laughed at Escanor’s remark. "I couldn’t have said it better. If you aren’t hungry though..." she pointed at herself. "You could always push it this way."
Zeldris shook his head. Since he had a princess that lost her shamelessness in the Presence of food, he really wanted to know that what they were being served wasn’t anything harmful to her health.
He saw Thales eating quietly and enjoying the good. Surely Thales would know if it was poisoned and since he ate it without worrying then Zeldris decided not to worry.
When they were done, Laurel dressed up to go about and top up her meal with the tasty snacks she knew were abundant at High Moon Kingdom.
Her officials were too stacked too move so she sneaked past them, at least, she wouldn’t need to share her snacks too.
She snickered when she escaped them, but it stopped when Thales appeared in front of her.
She folded her arms and groaned. "Fine, follow me."
He smiled and walked out with her. "So you actually have fun frustrating Zeldris who was to protect you?"
Laurel shrugged. Wasn’t he the only who frustrated himself by worrying over every small thing? Its not like she’d get missing from going through snacks store?
"I want to move and he doesn’t want me to move. Aren’t I the pitiful one?"
Outside the gate of the cottage, she saw that there were guards standing at the gate. Her shoulders slumped. The place was really a top guest place.
"Would they let me leave too?" she asked Thales.
"Do you want to bother them too?" he asked with a mischievous edge to his tone.
Laurel smirked. "Sure, sure."
Thales held her waist lightly and teleported out of the cottage. Laurel closed her eyes when she sensed what he wanted to do and when she opened her eyes, she found herself in a dark alley with people moving outside.
