Chapter 400: For Food

Chapter Four Hundred – For Food!

Zeldris sighed, running a hand through his hair. Princess Laurel really worried him at times. "She must be tired then. I’d let her be. Do you know what she did?"

"Eating. We eat at a restaurant." Marino said.

Mira from inside, on the bed yelled, out in support. "Tasty foods. And we went to an inn! Big inn!"

Laurel stared at the twins. Were they covering for her? How did they know she’d be in some kind of trouble if Zeldris knew exactly what happened? They stunned her at times and the thought brought a smile to her face.

"Inn? Tasty food?" Zeldris sighed, standing up.

He wasn’t very surprised that the Princess would run out on hearing there was a restaurant and inn with tasty food. Though he’d have liked to accompany her. He rubbed his ears. It would have felt like a date.

"Well, I hope you protected Princess from anything that tried to bother her? After me, you are the only one who can protect Princess, you know." Zeldris said to the boy.

The boy became sober and looked down.

Zeldris carried him off as he asked him what had happened. Laurel exhaled in relief when that was over.

Even if Marino was to speak of his kidnap, he could easily remove Stefan from the picture because, truly, Stefan hadn’t been of much help.

She laid down on her bed and felt Elma coming to the surface. She knew the next questions that’d be asked and she didn’t know how to answer exactly.

"Stefan isn’t bad... he can be clueless sometimes which makes it hard to believe that he was mean before but the revenge thing might be the reason for all that ugliness."

Elma felt like leaping for joy. The first step with Laurel accepting their mate was accepting that those ugly things were done out of rage.

Its not like her father was innocent anyway so they had to be a way to reconcile it. "So, will we marry him—"

"Don’t jump that far, Elma." Laurel cleared her throat.

"I only meant he wasn’t a bad choice as a mate. At least, not that bad now that I see him. Marriage? Don’t forget that curse." Laurel’s mood dampened while thinking about that.

Elma sighed, she understood that the curse was a factor but if Laurel wanted to defy all odds then the Moon Goddess would find a way to help them be together. As long as Laurel wanted it.

"By the way, I’m happy with my life this way. Starting anything with Stefan will raise questions and troubles and while it’d be fine later, I’d lose my peace for a while."

Temporary trouble for permanent peace didn’t sound like a very good deal to Laurel. Permanent peace with no trouble does, so let someone else do all that work. She coiled herself in bed and slept off.

The following day, a message from High Mountains woke her up and she sluggishly came to the hall to answer the messenger.

A petite wolfess who looked her over before responding. Laurel guessed the girl didn’t like being woken up early in the morning to deliver a message across packs. She didn’t like waking up to hear messages across packs either.

"I am—"

"Just tell me why you are here, please." Laurel relaxed on her seat and tried to resist falling asleep.

The wolfess scowled on being interrupted and dismissed that way. She didn’t like being with this Princess and in this land.

She had heard how they destroyed the former Black Claws and she didn’t like it. She wasn’t born at Black Claws but she shared their pain.

"I was sent here by Prince Sorren."

Laurel tilted her head. She could already guess that. Was there a reason this girl was taking her time to get straight to the point?

"Young lady, I don’t have all day. What exactly does Sorren want from me?"

The girl’s hands clenched. Why did she call the Prince without his honorifics? Did she think she was in the same level as him because they didn’t kill her outright?

"I don’t believe you. How rude could you be!" the girl snapped, stunning Laurel.

The maidens cleaning around looked at her direction and frowned. Who was that runt yelling at the Princess on an early morning?

Laurel sighed, rubbing her neck. It was too early for all that drama and her bed still called out to her. She mind linked the maidens and the girl was thrown out, literally, from the Lead Warrior’s quarters.

"I’d just go to Sorren myself when I’m ready. I have things to discuss with him as well." She sluggishly returned to her room, awaiting another reset.

Few hours later, she left her bed and returned to the hall to handle the notices on her table with renewed strength and agility.

They were other files she needed to check but she sent them to Bebe since they were from Rolling Stones Pack. That pack belonged to her so she should get used to handling their affairs.

"Princess Laurel." Zeldris hurried into the room. He smiled on seeing her diligently working and not lost somewhere that he couldn’t reach her.

"Good morning." Laurel said with a singsong manner, hoping Zeldris wouldn’t ask her about yesterday. She kept her head down while writing so he’d get the message that she was busy.

He came to her side, while nodding. "Good morning. Marino told me about yesterday when you were missing."

Missing? Laurel tried to smile it off. She hoped he didn’t call some cavalries while looking for her.

That’s what happened when she tried to be sneaky with Zeldris breathing down her back. On the flip side, the attention wasn’t bad.

"What did he say?" she still acted like she was very busy and into what she was doing. "We had fun, that’s all."

Zeldris didn’t know why she answered that way when there was a kidnap case but perhaps it was because it ended well that she didn’t want it to bother her.

"Well, the leader of that pack has sent gifts to you. They came this morning." Zeldris informed.

Hearing about the gifts, Laurel dropped the files and looked up. "So he did compensate?" She had actually forgotten about that and wouldn’t have really minded if he didn’t compensate.

She had done majority of what she did from anger after all. After sleep and a shower, she felt embarrassed that she went about threatening a leader of a pack.

That Leader must’ve been acting humble to not beat her off. "Well, I’d..." she shrugged. "... thank him for keeping to his words. You can send the gifts to my room and any weapon gift can be yours."

Zeldris made an ’hmm’ sound and left the hall.

The Princess watched him disappear before exhaling. It would seem Marino did not mention Stefan at all. But how? He was literally all over Stefan yesterday so how could he not speak a word about him now?

Could her children already know that she’s trying to hide whatever her relationship was with Stefan? That wasn’t good. They’d grow up to be really secretive.

"I guess I have to take them away from whatever Stefan and I are doing." She mumbled, returning to her writing on the files.

The day went by as usual and she felt it was rather more boring than she remembered. She wasn’t expecting anything, was she? Zeldris had the twins attention so all she could do was sit and stare.

"I should see Sorren then." She grunted as she left her seat. The boredom was already eating at her soul.

She arranged her hair from the mess it had been since morning and changed her dress to one with a darker tone. She reached her wardrobe for her necklace and paused. It was gone and she remembered how.

She opened her cupboard and pulled out a shiny box that had others but put it back in again. There was no need to wear jewelry that could easily get missing anyway.

That’s the first reason these things weren’t her thing.

Zeldris didn’t notice her when she left the place and she snickered. He’d have another headache when he would find out that she was gone again.

She told the maidens were she was going before she left for High Mountains. She walked alone out of the place and counted the beads on her bracelet as she walked.

Someone followed her out and she frowned. Had she been waiting for her by any chance? "You don’t have anyone to talk to, again?"

Cara followed her with a serious expression. She looked away. "Tell me, do you go messing about with the Alpha?"

Laurel stopped moving as a fear struck her heart. She had seen her with Stefan? She had been exposed and to no other than Cara who was a big mouth?

Yet, the way Cara addressed her fiercely annoyed her.
