Chapter Three Hundred-Ninety-Five – Mother
Elma slowed down as she saw a small stream with a lonely cottage towards the end of the pack. She came down from the roofs and walked to the cottage with calculating steps.
"Be careful Elma, they may be other children here, we shouldn’t hurt them."
Her wolf grunted as response. She reached the door and brushed it open gently with her head. It made a creaking sound and a young boy inside turned.
Panic flashed in his eyes on seeing the huge wolf with unusual colored fur, he stopped what he was doing and tried running away. Elma jumped in front of him and he fell down on his butt.
"Wait! Wolf, wait! Don’t kill me!"
Elma came closer, blocking him with the wall and her form, she brought her head closer to him and the boy could only shake in terror from being close to her jaw.
Laurel calmed herself down and tried to break into his mind link. He was a lesser rank wolf, omega ranked in fact, so it should be no problem to break his mind link.
"You there!"
The boy looked around when he heard a voice in his head, his head slowly turned to the wolf in front of him and he swallowed down nothing.
Was she the one speaking to him? "Y-Yes?" he felt slightly better when the voice belonged to a female.
"Do you know anyone named Koi who brought two children to this place?" Laurel asked.
"Mr. koi?" the boy adverted his eyes "I have no idea—"
Elma scratched her claws on the wall and it made a skin tearing sound that sent shivers through the boy’s body, yet he didn’t say anything and only covered his head.
"Where is Mr. Koi! You know who he is so tell me! If you take my time and he goes away with my children, there’d be consequences!" Laurel yelled at him.
The boy looked down holding his beating chest. "There is a locker room at the base of the room, down some stairs." He said quickly.
Elma noticed it and rushed to it. She used her claws to pull it open and looked up to ask the boy if that was really the place. The boy was already gone.
She sighed and jumped into the dark place. At most she’d kill a few and return with a lot of children. Her own children would not be taken by hustlers.
She noticed she had been falling for a long time and wedged herself for a landing. She noticed ground coming and prepared, she landed safely.
Underneath, it seemed there was a waterway down there and it disgusted her that it could be a sewage.
She walked through the dark tunnel and inclined her ears for the sounds of whimpers or laughing, whichever way the mother of this place raised the children she bought.
Laurel began to wonder what even made the woman buy children from travelers in the first place and what exactly her intention was.
But perceiving the disgusting scent of the place, Laurel didn’t think her twins could stay in such a place regardless of whatever the mother of the place wanted children for.
She had to have planned good living arrangements if she wanted children so badly.
There was a crying child lying on the ground and Elma rushed to her. The girl was laid in the smelly water running through the tunnel and there was a gash on her leg.
Elma laid besides the girl and gestured for the girl to climb on her but the moment the girl saw the beast in front of her, she cried louder, trying to crawl away.
Elma stayed back, looking guilty.
"She doesn’t have the capacity to have a mind link. I can’t talk to her unless I shift."
There were sounds coming from ahead.
Laurel knew she should only focus on her children. She pushed the girl to a wall to rest and despite the girl’s fear, she licked her wound before leaving.
Hopefully it wouldn’t get infected and she’d survive. She burned in annoyance at the thought of someone doing that to a child and leaving her to die.
The mother of this place might not be as thoughtful as she had a assumed if she could leave a child to die.
"I’m stunned you’d think of her as thoughtful in the first place when she literally stole our pups." Elma grunted.
Laurel sighed. Maybe she shouldn’t give the bastard a benefit of doubt. She reached the end of the tunnel and the sounds she heard seemed to be coming from a hollow opening at the other sound.
Elma placed her ears on the wall and it seemed to be crying sound of children.
They were still far away so if she hit the walls, she’d be able to get in without affecting any of them.
She tried to hear and see if she would be able to differentiate them and find Mira and Marino.
"Oh, wait, wait, Koi is here. All of you, shut up!"
The whole sounds died down and a woman hummed in satisfaction before opening a door to leave.
Laurel frowned.
So she was no mother at all. She kidnapped children and instead of her to pacify them, she tells them to shut up and leave them to cry.
After being sure that she wasn’t there, and neither were her children, Elma slammed her body into the wall numerous times, till they were whimpering sounds from inside.
Elma felt bad but she’d pacify them by taking them all out. The wall was thicker than she planned and she had to use her claws to weaken it before slamming her body on it again. It gave way on its third try.
As she fell in, she sighted the children, looking at her with teary faces. At least, twelve children around the ages of Mira and Marino. It felt like boiling iron on her heart as she saw them looking starved and beaten.
Just then the lady came into the room and Laurel caught scent of Mira and Marino. She dived to the woman immediately, sending her to the ground.
The lady screamed in surprise and fear, Elma slapped her across the face and she fainted. She noticed Koi running back with her children and her rage increased when she noticed Marino’s teary face.
"You bastards!" she sped after him, climbing the walls and breaking through the little furniture within the room inside the tunnels.
The man threw the twins out of his way and Elma dived to catch them and they fell on her timely. Marino clung unto her fur as he cried and Mira was speechless as she held unto her for comfort.
Still Elma rose from their sides and sped off, chasing after Koi. The man had slowed down when he thought he wasn’t being chased after dropping the children.
His body was slammed to the wall, breaking it and coming outside and falling to the ground.
His body raked worth pain and fear as he felt the huge wolf above him snarling. He couldn’t say a word.
Stefan’s heart skipped a beat when he saw the wolf that he instantly recognized as Laurel. How did she get there?
He had gone to the leader of Kleon and had him assist him in the search for Koi and they came to a sketchy home that was owned by an old widow that usually abused children for self gratification and here, he was seeing Laurel that should be asleep at the inn.
The young leader of Kleon stepped forward, pointing at the wolf with unusual appearance. "Did you send your boys to go after him before coming to me?"
Stefan shook his hands in dismissal. "That’s the Princess of Green Valleys that I spoke about earlier. She must’ve noticed her children were missing and came."
Though Stefan couldn’t guess or piece together how she’d know that Koi was the culprit. She had been asleep. Or did the innkeeper tell her? Possibly.
The young leader of Kleon sent his guards to her. "Stop her this instant. She can’t kill a member of my pack!"
Stefan frowned and came in front of the guards. While he could understand the leader not wanting a foreigner to kill his pack member, why were the guards coming with spear to stop Laurel when she was the victim?
He didn’t bother scold them and went to Laurel himself. Her claws had dug into Koi and she seemed to be enjoying him writhing in pain as she stayed on top of this body.
Stefan breathed in and out. "Elma, get up from him please." Elma narrowed her eyes at him then looked away.
He was in charge of taking care of her pups yet let them get taken away and now he came with people to stop her from tearing the man to pieces?
She threw the man towards the guards and the guards were careful to lower their weapons so that he wouldn’t be stabbed with it.
As they did, Elma jumped over them and the shadow of her form covered them below. She jumped to the other side, blocking them from going further.
