Chapter 39: Don’t Fight
Chapter Thirty-Nine – Don’t Fight
Someone knocked on his door. Sorren frowned. Who was looking for him this early in the morning? "If thy must, do come in." A bag was thrown on his bed.
There were souvenirs and Sorren realized who it was. Still, the visit could have waited till later in the morning, unless his brother had something else to say. "Are you back from the date with Jade? How did it go?"
A long sigh left Stefan. "It was great except for a visitor I encountered. Goddess, I really hope you don’t meet her ever in your life."
A female that made his brother so regretful? She sounded interesting to Sorren. "There are few people who could torment you, be happy and treasure them."
What was he saying? Stefan glanced at him with lidded eyes. So far, he and Laurel were the only ones who tormented him. He’d like to leave it at that.
He caught sight of a new scar on his brother’s arm. "Was that from Cade?" it was unlikely. Cade was usually careful with him. "That’s a new one."
"Hmm?" Sorren followed his eye sight. "Oh that. It’s from Sigma. He’s grown stronger." He said fondly.
Growing stronger? Stefan shrugged. "Can you keep up?" The boy is well into a Delta rank. Training him is a hassle."
"I’m alright. I’m just training him because you’re too busy to, and Cade doesn’t like him. You make it sound like I’m old." was Sorren’s reply after few seconds passed.
It made Stefan chuckled. This was always a sensitive topic but he’s glad his brother was making a joke out of it.
"I don’t mean that. You don’t fight. Raising him to be that combative is a great feat on your part, but you’re reaching your limit. You don’t fight."
Did he have to repeat it? Sorren’s fingers went through his hair, as he rolled his eyes. "I said, I’m alright."
Stefan leaned on the door. He’d be a horrible older brother if he ignored him. His younger brother hated fights, blood, and violence.
As a Lycan, it was odd for him to detest them but his mother assumed it was his werewolf blood that made him primal Lycan instincts dormant.
As a kid, many officials ignored Sorren because he wasn’t the Luna’s son, or a promising fighter. Thankfully, he didn’t care and became knowledgeable in arts, languages and the culture of surrounding packs.
Guests from other packs usually picked interest in him, first for his beauty and calmness, then for his knowledge. It was all good till the attack by Alpha Titus.
When the survivors fled to a neighboring pack to rebuild, Sorren transferred his rights to be his brother’s Beta to Cade, a pack member said to be really strong.
Stefan assumed it was sorrow for losing their parents but after many years, his younger brother maintained his plea not to be an official.
Yet, he secretly began training Sigma when he came of age and asked that the boy be placed in the Delta lineup. Till date, Stefan couldn’t understand his brother’s reason, he only respected it.
His closest guess was that his mother was rumored to be pregnant before her death so Sorren took Sigma as the younger brother he would have had.
"I’m just saying, you like the thrill of fights but not the fight itself. Then watch someone fight. Organize matches from time to time and enjoy. But don’t fight." Stefan advised.
But yet again, his brother was the knowledgeable one and knew how to manage himself. He’d never do anything to hurt his beautiful self so if he deemed the training with Sigma dangerous, he’d stop. Stefan turned to leave.
"That’s an amazing idea!"
Stefan halted. "Hmm? What is?"
"Organize matches and enjoying the thrill of them fighting for their lives." Sorren beamed. "I’d use the maids."
"Wait... it mustn’t be to the death or you’d run out of contestants." Stefan threw another suggestion but it was immediately brushed.
"Then my big brother would raid another pack and bring slaves to me. Only matches to the death are fun." Sorren smirked, picking the bag of souvenir.
What had he done? Stefan rubbed his temples. Those poor maids will be tormented because of his words. "Ah, isn’t Laurel amongst... well, whatever... I don’t care."
Sorren smirked. "Don’t worry. She’s already entertaining me in her own way, I wouldn’t involve her more."
Entertaining him in her own way. "What way is that?"
"Ah, I forget you said you didn’t care, right? I wouldn’t bother you about it them." Sorren took out the souvenirs. "Is this a toy or a candy? Wow. Jappongi has good stuff."
Stefan’s eyes darkened, as he marched out of the room. Was his brother playing with his mate? He shouldn’t care but Sorren was unhinged. If something happened to his mate before he’d sort his feelings, he’d be really annoyed.
"How long are you going to use that as a excuse?" His wolf, Kai, came to the surface. "I want my mate. I don’t care what you think."
Stefan knew that, which was why he hadn’t shifted in a while. If he gave Kai control, he’d run to his mate’s arms and crumble his resolve. He had no control.
"If you don’t want to understand that she’s an enemy, then I don’t care what you think either." He responded.
Still, he found himself going towards the maid quarters. He wondered internally if he hoped to catch a glimpse of Laurel. He gazed down from a window and watched the girls scurrying about as they worked.
They were all low ranked, some warriors, some omegas. When he tried to look away, he noticed an intense gaze on him. It wasn’t intimidating but definitely intense. He searched for it, amongst the maids.
There was a redhead seated, while the rest worked. Her hair covered parts of her face but he felt her eyes on him.
"She should be the most powerful wolf here. Who is she?" Cade handled all the powerful wolves. There was no way he’d missed this one, especially as she was seemed pretty. He walked away from the window, rubbing his temples. These were distractions.
The Lycan Packs Meeting would be here soon. He needed to get his act together and make a really good impression to the Lycan King.
He’d thought of going with Jade as his fiancée, but Delta Zara had eyes on him and he didn’t want Jade to misunderstand. Also, there’s the Prince Asher who hated werewolves and would boldly show indifference to Jade.
He could go with Cade as his Beta but Sorren would never accept the Alpha’s responsibilities. Stefan didn’t know how Sorren would feel about going with him.
It might be best to take his mind off playing with Laurel and those maids. "But Zara is looking forward to meeting him. I can’t expose him to such danger." He sighed.
A painful conclusion. He had no one to escort him to the Lycan Packs Meeting, the most important event of his life.
