Her Vengeful Lycan Alpha -
Chapter 40. Death
Chapter 40: 40. Death
Chapter Forty – Death
Laurel was sure the moon goddess surged strength into her as she felt energetic by morning. Was it compensation for how miserable her life was?
She washed her face, rushing out of the room. She could do her morning drills before taking a bath, because she was bound to sweat really bad.
Outside, the maids were whispering in a circle. Laurel couldn’t recognize anyone she knew so wanted to pass by, but they turned to her. "Good morning, Princess."
That was new. She nodded, "Good morning." Was this what Frida meant by the maids now looked up to her? It made her anxious. What if she messed up when they really needed her? Was she in a condition where anyone should look up to her?
"Your highness, it’s time to drop the laundry washed, at the main palace, but the ones responsible are too scared to go because the Alpha is back." A maid said.
The Alpha was back? Laurel remembered Sorren say that Stefan went on a date with his fiancée. She exhaled. "Can I come along then?" It seemed that’s what they asked for, even if she’d rather stay away from the palace.
The girls in charge, of dropping the laundry, came forward and bowed. "Thank you, your highness." The baskets they held were heavy so Laurel took one.
"No problem. I wanted a walk anyway. Let’s go." She headed to the entrance. The guards who’d attempt hurting Lisa were still on guard. They said nothing to the maids and opened the door.
Laurel noticed the girls breathe out in relief. Did the guard scare them? She slowed down as she wanted the girls to lead the way, but they remained behind her.
"Ah, Princess!"
The maids froze, dropping their heads down immediately. Laurel moved from them, so they won’t be in his line of sight. "Hey, Sigma." She knew he was playful, but he’d surely not give a damn about maids.
"I heard some maids had trouble with the guards earlier. Sorren said someone else should deal with it." Sigma said.
From the corner of Laurel eyes, she could see the maids shivering. Earlier, she heard that Cade set a rule – that if one maid did something, all would get punished.
"Beta Cade handled it beautifully. The guards tried to assault a maid Prince Sorren kept there." Laurel forced a smile. "You don’t have to worry."
"Hmm. It that so? Well, that’s not why I’m here. I was trying to select maids for a game Prince Sorren wanted to play." Sigma moved ahead. "Goodbye."
Laurel nodded, watching him leave. The countenance of the maids behind her changed as they heard of a game. She didn’t know what it’s about but was glad Sigma didn’t notice the girls. "Let’s keep going!" They hurried.
At the main palace, Laurel’s steps slowed down. The palace was being renovated, possibly to Stefan’s taste. A scowl came on her face and she handed her basket to a maid. "I’d meet you guys later. I want to stop somewhere."
She left before they could protest. Her room. She had to go to her high tower room and say goodbye to it, forever.
There were trash and blood scattered along the route to the room. Tears welled up in Laurel’s eyes as she remembered the maids that served her.
She was yet to see of them so they were possibly killed. At her door’s entrance, there was a huge cobweb. Using a stick, she cleared it before opening the door. Her jaw fell. Everything was still intact. The warriors didn’t come in there. Her pretty dresses, jewelry and all the accessories.
She never appreciated them before because then, all she wanted was freedom. Now she was free, she really wanted to dress pretty again.
She hid the small accessories in the pocket her maid attire came with. She planned to gift it to the maids later as they probably never owned something like that.
"No way." Laurel smiled on finding her first lip ointment. It had a shade of pink and was naturally made with fruits and oil. It always tasted sweet too.
She gently rubbed it on her lips before keeping it in her pocket. She untied her hair and placed the hairpins in it.
Her hair had been in a bun for so long that she felt different when it came down. Her mirror was dusty so she couldn’t use it but she felt confident again.
As she looked around the room, her eyes caught a word scribbled on the walls. "Death." She read. It was while she was twelve, wishing for death to come upon her quickly due to how miserable she felt.
She touched the word with her fingertips. "I don’t want death anymore. I want life and strength."
"Your highness!" she heard someone call.
Quickly, she grabbed her dusty mattresses. She looked down at the maids with a smile. "In case the weather gets cold, we’d need this. It’s really warm."
She threw down the mattresses on the maid. Another waved at her, "Your highness, you look really pretty." Laurel touched her face. Of course, she had something on her lips and her hair was down. "Thank you!"
"That’s your room, your highness, isn’t it?"
Laurel nodded, and ran back inside to bring the dresses. The maids were still with their baskets, so she could hide them in there. When she returned with colorful apparels, the maids stared at her in a daze.
"We’re taking it back with us. They’re pretty but also really warm. For cold nights." she told them. One of them snapped from her daze. "Y-You’d share them with us?"
"Of course, we are in this together. Here." Laurel threw it down and the girls quickly caught it and hid in the baskets. Laurel turned back to her room.
Was there anything she should take? Her room tower would be demolished soon so it was best to take as much as she could.
"Your Highness! Your highness!"
Laurel peeped down and the girls gestured for her to run, before running themselves. She frowned. "Where are you girls going...."
Her heart flew to her mouth, as her eyes met his. "Laurel? What are you doing up there?"
