Chapter 378: Interacting

Chapter Three Hundred-Seventy-Eight – Interacting

Sorren left where he sat and headed to the kitchen. "Will you stay here for a week?" He asked Zeldris. "I’d like to discuss a lot of things with you."

It was a risky request so he already expected a negative response. A knight who left his position because of a family matter was unheard of and Sorren didn’t plan to force his cousin to be the first.

"I-I will think about it." Came Zeldris’s answer and his head was lowered. He regretted it before and after he said it but he had still said it.

His last family member knew he existed and wanted to make a closer bond with him. He didn’t know to refuse that.

He still knew he had a duty to the Princess but she’d be happier when he’s with his family. He hoped.

He watched Sorren leave to the kitchen and Zeldris got comfortable on the couch he was seated on.

A sense of familiarity washed over him as he stayed in that room as if he’d been there all the while. As if it had been his home. He had no idea that he had such feelings.

Wasn’t he comfortable with the Princess? He thought his subconscious had already accepted her as family. Did it feel more real at the moment because Sorren was a blood relative?

Prince Sorren returned with a tray of tea and snacks and Zeldris felt even more relaxed. But he knew what he had to do. He had already told the Princess that he’d return to her so he had to return, but with no regrets.

"Prince Sorren, I will not be able to stay with you for—"

"Sorren." Prince Sorren corrected.

Zeldris made a small smile, looking downwards. He never thought he’d be on a first name basis with a Prince in his life. He might never get used to it. "I will not be able to stay with you for a week."

"It’s okay."

There was silence between them.

"I heard from Saki that your mother had died in an entourage with a Grand Witch. They were attacked by Lycans." Sorren placed a cup in front of him.

The witches that attacked them that time and hurt Sigma, Alpha Ella’s witches, wasn’t it the same entourage? The witches had spoken about lycans attacking them as well. Or was it a common story?

He noticed Zeldris hesitate and wondered why. The young man had brought advice that saved Sigma and helped them know that it had been witches attacking.

If they had been his mother’s former entourage where he supposedly grew up in, he wouldn’t have easily given out that information, would he?

"Yes, that’s how she died. Last time I met the Queen of Damancas, she told me how she’d always remember my mother so I don’t let it bother me anymore."

Zeldris had said that so his cousin wouldn’t worry about his mental health but when he looked up, there was a stunned expression on Sorren’s face.

Zeldris tried to clarify. "I mean, she was sad that I was sad because my mother left me so yeah.... I’m fine now."

Sorren nodded but the part that actually stunned him and kept on stunning him was the fact that Zeldris had spoken to the Queen of Damancas.

He had even gotten pity from her. It was probably Laurel’s influence but it was still surprising since he had been gloating about meeting her a while back.

Sorren cleared his throat and leaned back. With the way Zeldris had spoken, whatever the Princess had gone to Damancas to do, would it be something worth mentioning or this was a slipup?

"You met the Queen recently?" he tried to act oblivious.

Zeldris nodded. "The King and Queen of Damancas had called Princess Laurel to congratulate her for her position and also to sympathize with her loss."

There was a heavy atmosphere after he said that but Zeldris acted like he didn’t notice, and so did Sorren.

Sorren didn’t think Zeldris would be that clear so its either he didn’t see him as one of the Lycans who caused what happened or he said it to his face.

Also only congratulating Laurel for her new position seemed a bit too normal to invite the Princess over. They could have said that in a letter.

Did Zeldris not know or he didn’t want to say? Sorren didn’t want to turn their first meeting to an investigation so he switched the topic to what they’d both contribute in.

Zeldris already made it clear that he couldn’t stay for long and Sorren wanted to discharge him soon enough.

"Um.... I don’t really know if I should ask you this but how does the Princess treat my brother?" Sorren folded his arms.

Before Zeldris’s visit, he’d read the letter that his brother had sent about Zeldris’s attachment to the Princess that may also be in a romantic light.

Sorren could guess that the situation might be his brother was being possessive of his mate and didn’t like her closeness with her Knight.

Still he needed to be sure because if Laurel was able to make the only two blood relatives he had fall in love with her then they’d some issues in his own life.

Annoyance floated to Zeldris’s top but he didn’t spew it out. Why should he care how the Princess treat the Alpha?

He could understand why Sorren would want to know because if the Alpha truly had feelings for the Princess, his brother would know.

"She treats him with respect befitting of her Alpha." He said with a neutral tone. "Can I ask one back?"

Sorren became alert. He shouldn’t have started the chain of questions when he knew Zeldris could as easily ask him back. They were just cousins now.

"Sure." He tried to sound relaxed.

"The Alpha has feelings for the Princess, doesn’t he?" Zeldris narrowed his eyes at Sorren as if he was trying to find the answer in his eyes.

Sorren didn’t like the situation at all. He shouldn’t have asked any question that would’ve dragged to that point.
