Chapter 377: Not an errand
Chapter Three Hundred-Seventy-Six - Not an errand
Laurel looked the Beta up and down. Him falling in love with one of her pack members would be the worst thing that ever happened to him.
After all, he and his Alpha made her not to believe in love so she’d do the same. "Let’s see how it goes."
The odds were already in her favor and she’d only use the Beta mercilessly till he’d give up on Jessika.
She grabbed the file she was reading and looked away from the Beta. Cade recognized the file as he had seen the Alpha holding it during the past few days.
"Do you hate the Alpha?" he suddenly asked.
Laurel didn’t expect the question and hesitated. She looked up and frowned when she felt Elma coming alive to that question. Her own wolf betrayed her expectations every time.
"Am I supposed to like him, Beta Cade? What stupid question is that?" She darkened her eyes on him.
What was he trying to prove with such a question? Did he noticed his Alpha’s attachment to her and thought she felt the same?
"You really like to annoy me." It left her lips, and she didn’t know why she should feel annoyed by his question. "You can leave, Beta Cade."
If she really wanted to punish that Alpha, she’d use him and get a child for herself and then watch him die in a very unsuspecting manner.
However, that’d be too much of a hassle so she’d pass and only ignore him. "I said you can leave, Beta Cade."
The Beta felt there was more to that answer but the Princess’s expression held disgust so he couldn’t place it. He returned to his quarters.
Laurel sighed, rubbing her face. She glanced at the file in her hand and sighed again. It just had the history of Yudan with nothing about the curse yet.
In retrospect, she shouldn’t expect a curse that happened to one family to be in the clan’s history, but she wanted to leave no stone unturned.
By evening, Zeldris was ready to go to see Prince Sorren and he’d even adjusted his hair in a different hairstyle and trained his mouth not to speak so many nonsense.
He appeared in the hall wearing smart fits. "Princess Laurel, I’d be on my way now."
Laurel looked up and smiled. He must be working really hard for a good impression. When Zeldris saw her smile, he felt more at ease about his decision
"Return safely." She said as a matter of courtesy.
But Zeldris nodded with determination, assuming she was telling him not to abandon his post. He marched out afterwards.
The warriors at the border of High Mountains knew of his visit so they let him in, without side eyeing him.
The new treatment reminded Zeldris of the Alpha being nice to him and it bothered him. They should stick to one behavioral method.
He strolled to the Prince’s quarters and paused in front of the door. Should he have brought a gift? But the Prince only wanted to send him on an errand, right?
The door opened and Sorren stepped out, he opened the door wider. "You know I just want to... talk, right?"
He looked at the young man’s clothes that looked like he was going to visit his fiancé’s parents.
Zeldris loooeddown at himself and his ears reddened. Did he look like he didn’t come to talk... Wait, talk? Didn’t he want to sens him on an errand? He entered the open door and found a place to seat in the house.
He’d been inside the house before but now, he seemed to be aware of everything as if, unconsciously, he wanted to know the style of his cousin.
"What was the Princess’s reaction to me request to see you?" Sorren asked when he sat down in front of Zeldris.
Zeldris shifted nervously in his seat. It’d have been better if the Prince actually wanted to send him on an errand and not talk to him as if they were friends.
"S-She didn’t mind." Zeldris couldn’t place if the Prince asked because he knew Princess Laurel wouldn’t like it or not. "She only told me to return safely."
Sorren wondered if she was telling him not to stay with him. It felt like Laurel was the only one who knew about Zeldris connection to him.
But Sorren also had his reservations, because Zeldris should’ve known while being my the Princess’ side all the time.
He decided to go straight to the point.
"Do you know we are related?"
Zeldris’s head ran cold. The Prince knew? He stared at him for a while before looking down. If the Prince already knew, then was it what he came to talk about? How did he even figure out?
His reaction worried Sorren. The young man looked shocked and had many questions. Did he really not know? "Maternally." he added so that the young man would understand better.
Zeldris slowly nodded. "I-I see." he didn’t how to act like he’d already known. Truly, the Prince Sorren was smart enough to know these things.
That response threw Sorren to a pool of questions and there was two minutes silence between them.
Sorren cleared his throat. "So you grew up at Damancas?" The conversation was more awkward than he had imagined.
He saw Zeldris nod without saying anything. It seemed the conversations would bw carries by only him so Sorren dared to be more direct. "Your mother learnt magic there, didn’t she?"
Zeldris’s eyes widened. If the Prince knew that, then did he also know that his own mother was also a witch? This Prince knew a lot but didn’t show it.
Sorren noticed Zeldris’s reaction and took that as confirmation. He had asked Saki as well as she told him the truth he didn’t like.
His own mother had also been a witch and he was part witch as her child. He didn’t know the depths of everything yet but he wanted he and his cousin on the same page first.
"Will you stay here for a week?" He left where he sat and headed to the kitchen. "I’d like to discuss a lot of things with you."
