Chapter 376: Longing

Chapter Hundred-Seventy-Six – Longing

Cade had an embarrassed look which he quickly hid by covering his face and turning away. He didn’t think he had been so obvious.

Did Jessika notice? She probably never do if she didn’t point it out, then how the hell had Bebe realized?

"Well... Jessika doesn’t like me in that way..." he trailed off. Why should he speak about that with this girl?

Bebe nodded, walking around the Beta. "I don’t think you can be with her though, there’s one major problem."

Cade hated that he was curious about it. Would it be that she was the captive? He never saw her as one so there was no problem. "What is it?"

Bebe smirked and replied. "You are not her mate."

It stabbed Cade’s usually stone heart and his eyes lowered. That was a good point and it hurt how true it was. He looked at the direction Jessika left in and strangely felt a longing.

She wasn’t his mate and he wasn’t hers, so why did he still feel a longing? He exhaled.

It must be his natural habit of accepting a challenge and wanting even the things that aren’t in his reach.

It wasn’t a bad habit but now that he longed for something he shouldn’t have, he’d make an extra effort to get it.

Fate was something he’d been destroying since he somehow got the role of a Beta while being a common member with no official relative.

Jessika returned to the gate, she breathed in and out before speaking. She could feel the Beta’s eyes on her and didn’t feel conscious anymore but annoyed.

But could she dare to speak up against him with his rank? She lowered her head.

"Beta Cade, the Princess is ready to see you. She warned that you should keep it simple as she’s very busy." She said.

She noticed he reached for her face and she forced her body not to react by moving away or slapping his hand.

He raised her lowered head up, looking into her eyes. His hand on hers made her body sensitive but she ignored that feeling.

He must be taking advantage of the fact that she was innocent to most of these things.

"You can look up when talking to me, okay?" Cade made sure how voice was as soft as possible not to scare her. Jessika nodded so he’d let her go.

His thumb rubbed her jaw gently before he let go, and walked towards the hall.

Jessika exhaled and instantly glared at his retreating figure. "He should learn to keep his bloody hands to himself."

She snapped her head to Bebe. "I don’t really have a problem with you but I guess I do now."

Bebe’s face contorted to a frown. What was that supposed to mean? She could clearly see that the girl didn’t like Beta Cade which wasn’t surprising, but how did it concern her that only wanted to play middleman?

"These men killed our loved ones, Bebe. Don’t be so nice to them or the Princess will think you don’t care because you aren’t a victim."

It suddenly felt like a lump of wood suddenly was in Bebe’s throat and she couldn’t swallow it down.

She remembered how the Princess had been uninterested in saving Sigma when he had gotten attacked by witches and she had to be the one to do it.

The Princess truly had a deep dislike for these lycans and hid it while interacting with them on a normal basis. It was a scary act and Bebe wondered if she’s expected to play along.

Surely these lycans had hurt them but it was a revenge so couldn’t both parties let go of it and follow peace?

Meanwhile Cade felt weird with the atmosphere in the hall. The Princess was said to be less busy to listen to him but countless scrolls were around her.

She didn’t look less busy at all except that she folded her arms while looking at him. "What are you doing?"

"That’s not what you should be asking." Laurel frowned. "Didn’t you come to prostrate and roll on the ground while apologizing for what you did to my guest?"

Cade clicked his tongue. She was truly dramatic. "I have a request to make and you can ask me of anything in return." He paused. "And, I’m sorry about your guest."

Laurel’s eyes dimmed on him. He wanted to ask her a favor when the sun hadn’t even set on his quick apology? "I totally refuse. You can leave."

"I’d come back again. This is something I really want so I’d bother you till you hear me out." Cade said unfazed.

Laurel noticed his determination and remembered how Jessika had looked annoyed when she came to tell him that the Beta was around.

Had the Beta tried to make a move on her? Could that be related to what he wanted now?

He really should stop seeing her pack members as things he could just pick because he liked it.

"And I’d reject you every time, Beta Cade." She said with slightly raised voice. "Is it Jessika? Well, will you trade you sister with her? Or give me the head of whoever I want? What do you think she’s worth, huh?"

Cade stared at the Princess in surprise. How could she tell that his request was related to Jessika? How could these ladies tell all these things? Was he really too obvious? He regained his composure and insisted.

"You’d be reasonable and ask for something I could actually get you. And of course, it’d be Jessika’s decision if she’d wants to come with me." Cade said.

He’d just have to do his best to make sure the cook would want him as he wanted her. He’d only make her work in his quarters as his cook and slowly make friends with her.

Laurel huffed. The Beta made it easy since Jessika didn’t want him but if she could use him to get things in the future in order to get her permission to release Jessika, then it wouldn’t be a bad deal.
