Chapter 375: He Likes Me?
Chapter Three Hundred-Seventy-Five – He Likes Me?
The truth lay bare to Stefan and it ate him deep. He really couldn’t give Laurel anything, she had given herself all the things she wanted without needing him.
That’s why he always wanted to be needed by her but it wasn’t enough. "Y-You have a p-point there... Cade."
Cade said nothing. Why was the Alpha stuttering? Was he considering making the Princess the Queen? It’d be against her wish so it’s best not to house such thought.
"Alpha, no matter what happens, we should let the Princess decide this for herself. I doubt she’d want to have anything to do with the lycan King and that elder would’ve to back down if she’s not interested."
Again, Stefan thought about how Laurel’s decision would barely have any effect if the King really wanted her, but he left it to himself.
He didn’t want to make it sound like he couldn’t protect her from what she didn’t like. He’d do anything not to disappoint her again. "Yes, you’re right."
The Beta could tell that his Alpha didn’t feel okay but he accepted it and left his study shortly. The King didn’t like the Princess like that and if he did, she had a choice.
The King may dislike werewolves and werewolfesses but he shouldn’t think for a second that because the Princess was a wolf, he could just have her.
Cade left the palace and strolled towards the Princess’s place. The chances of her being the Lycan King’s Queen was low but perhaps he should ask if she did something that brought such attention on her.
That Princess acted unpredictable sometimes so he had to make sure things weren’t actually going by her plans. He tried to knock on the gate but it opened suddenly and someone ran out and bumped into him.
He frowned but it faded when he saw it was Jessika. A smile came to his lips instead. "Are you okay?"
Jessika kept her head down and nodded. "Sorry—"
"I want to see the Princess, come." Cade held her arm and pulled her back. She always avoided him so being direct was the only way he could think of.
Why did it affect him that she avoided him? He had no idea, but he really wanted her not to. He noticed she didn’t resist and felt very relieved.
"The Princess is currently busy reading some files. I don’t know if she’d accept visitors impromptu." Jessika said in a low voice.
Cade glanced at her and she bent her head even lower. Cade didn’t think it was the difference between their ranks that made her do that.
He didn’t think it’s because she’s scared of him either, he didn’t want to think so. "Will you keep me company till she’s ready?"
Jessika’s heart skipped a beat. That was a very terrifying request. To stay besides this Beta till the Princess was done? She just couldn’t, but she couldn’t say no either.
He wouldn’t do anything to her if she’s being honest, would he? She tried to mind link the closest person she could find to save her.
At that moment Bebe walked into the Lead Warrior’s quarters and stopped behind the Beta and the cook. She saw how Jessika wanted to squirm out of the Beta’s hold and frowned. "You don’t bully the Princess’s cook in her own place." Bebe walked up to him.
Cade had a displeased expression on seeing her. She was another one who bothered Sorren and Sigma but he didn’t have any personal problems with her.
"What do you mean by bully?" it worried him that that’s what it looked like at first glance.
Bebe wondered if she had been mistaken. She stared at Jessika who looked at her with pleading eyes and sighed. "Beta Cade, did you apologize for what you did to Quin? You certainly scared everyone then."
The white haired girl? Cade sighed and stared at Jessika that did her best to look away. That wasn’t the type of saving she wanted Bebe to do for her.
She hurriedly searched for Zeldris in her mind link. Her concentration broke when she felt a warm hand on her cheeks and she locked eyes with the Beta’s "A-Are you scared of me because of what happened?"
Seeing the Beta looking somewhat vulnerable in front of her made her face soften. The Princess was really serious when she said he liked her?
Wasn’t it just a liking to her food? But to her? Seeing it in that light made Jessika’s heart beat faster. "N-No, its just Quin had a hard time recovering and... nothing—"
Cade squeezed her hand, looking at her. "I understand."
Jessika didn’t meet his gaze. This Lycan Beta actually had feelings for her? She couldn’t see why but it felt nice to have someone like you for no exact reason.
Since when did he like her? While Green Valleys’ was still in captivity? That’s when the Princess had mentioned it so could it have been then?
She met his gaze and noticed his eyes softened when they locked eyes. It felt awkward, and why wouldn’t it? This was a Lycan who raided her pack and killed her family and loved ones.
It felt good to be the object of his affection but he must think she had really low standards to think she’d fall in love with a murderer.
Lycans might give less importance to mates, but she also wanted to see her mate and fall in love with him properly. She calmly took a step back.
"I’d check if the Princess is ready to see you." She forced a smile and hurriedly walked to the hall.
Cade stood there’s frozen, but glad of the small smile she forced out. He realized Bebe was still behind him and turned to her. Bebe had a grin on her face.
"So you like our famous cook? I definitely see the ap—"
"Like your cook?" Cade repeated. He didn’t sound like he was in denial but confused on such a proclamation.
She could say that just on watching him with Jessika once? Did he really like the cook in that way?
