Chapter 373: Then Go

Chapter Three Hundred-Seventy-Three – Then go.

Stefan had considered that reply, so he relaxed. His eyes shifted to Zeldris and he couldn’t stop it from darkening.

"Knight Zeldris, I also have a favor to ask of you."

Seeing his usual gaze back, Zeldris felt more comfortable and raised a brow. "What is it?"

It’s after asking that he began panicking and wondering what kind of favor this Lycan Alpha would have of him.

’Favor’ was a troubling way to put whatever he wanted to ask because why would be need a favor from a Knight he didn’t like?

What kind of favor will it be? Would it be something crazy like doing something that had chances of killing him? Zeldris added quickly. "I am busy as a Knight so depending on how much attention it’d need, I may have to decline."

The Alpha hummed. So his brother was right? Being the Princess’s Knight will surely hinder Zeldris’s and Sorren’s relationship but it couldn’t stop it.

Stefan felt slightly envious that Zeldris would be one more person his brother would care about despite his usual cold self but Sorren needed to open his heart more.

"I need you to report to Prince Sorren at former High Mountains. He’d give you the details." Stefan decided to not be direct. "If it’s something you can’t do then—"

"I’d do it." Zeldris quickly opted.

This will be another chance for him to get closer to his cousin and probably repair the talkative image he’d made. He realized that he made that decision without the Princess’s approval and stayed quiet.

"Since you’ve decided..." Stefan glanced at Laurel. Her Knight had just accepted to leave her side without informing her. Stefan didn’t expect the quick response. "... you need to leave this evening."

Zeldris didn’t give a reply and only looked down.

Laurel bowed and began walking out. Sorren must’ve realized Zeldris was related to him or he wanted to confirm. All in all, it’s what Zeldris had always wanted so she could only let him reunite with his cousin.

Still, she didn’t want it to look like she wanted to send forth her Knight, especially to that Sorren who could have a big influence over Zeldris’s life.

"In all Prince Sorren’s helpers at High Mountains, having two packs as well, he needed my Knight here to run an errand for him." She said as she walked out of the study.

Hearing her words, Zeldris felt like he did something wrong. Stefan gestured for him to leave and the Knight chased after the Princess.

Laurel read the file as she walked out. The weather had gotten hotter, or maybe it’s the jacket that helped chase the cold from her body. "Here. Thank you."

As she returned the jacket, Zeldris heart broke to pieces. Was she mad at him and didn’t want his jacket on her?

It was delusional but he felt really proud having her wear his jacket on his shoulders while talking to that Alpha.

"Pr-Princess Laurel." He called, stopping behind her.

Laurel dragged her eyes from the file and turned to him. She frowned a bit when she saw he stopped walking.

Zeldris misinterpreted her frown to mean that she was displeased with him. He felt distraught. He never considered that being with his cousin might take him away from the Princess who he owed his life too.

But he couldn’t ignore the presence of that last family member that could be in his life. "I-I really want to go..."

Laurel raised a brow. And did she stop him? She looked back at her file and kept on walking. "Then go, Zeldris."

Her tone was flat and Zeldris still felt conflicted, but he decided to go. If the Princess was worried that he wouldn’t come back then all he had to do was settle her worries by coming back.

He returned to the Alpha and confirmed that he’d be paying a visit to Prince Sorren that evening. Stefan nodded and quickly drafted a permit that could let him pass the guards. "Zeldris, does the Princess treat you well?"

The Knight frowned at that question. "She does." Why would he think she didn’t? The Princess was the kindest!

"She’s nicer to her own people than she is to those who oppress her. You might never get to experience it but she truly is nice." He added with a curt smile.

Stefan clenched his fists, rethinking how he could never get fond of this Knight even as his brother’s cousin. "That’s not why I asked, Zeldris. I meant if you’re happy with her?"

That confused Zeldris more. Why should the Alpha care about that? He never thought he’d be telling him but he decided to. "The Princess saved me from slavery and kept me by her side. I am very grateful to her for that."

Stefan’s face loosened. Slavery? It’s common that Damancas had a slave market. He had suffered that as well? Stefan added that as a side note to Sorren.

If his cousin owe Laurel not just loyalty but his life, then taking him away from Laurel’s side wouldn’t be easy.

"I see. I’m truly sorry about that." Stefan said. He knew Sorren would also feel guilty about this as his mother abandoning her family caused these chain of events.

He handed Zeldris the permit and watched him leave. His dislike towards him began to falter.

If the Knight was heavily attached to the Princess because she saved his life, then it might just be more than loyalty, and he couldn’t blame him.

Stefan mind linked a warrior who took the letter to Sorren. Beta Cade walked in after the warrior left. "Alpha, I’ve confirmed that Slime and the Elder from High Moon had returned safely."

Stefan nodded. That should be Sorren’s problem but he had been conscious to know, in case Lunaria had caused any type of trouble.

"Um... Alpha, it seems there was a news of the King of High Moon housing a suspected Queen in his kingdom and that’s the major reason the Elder came here."

Stefan looked up from his files. What type of Queen would the King find and what did it have to do with him?
