Chapter 370: The Gift
Chapter Three Hundred-Seventy – The Gift
As Sorren walked around the hall, he watched the guests and checked who he hasn’t thanked for coming.
"W-Wait..." Sorren rushed to Slime when he saw him about to eat some grilled meat with their sticks. He pulled it out and dropped on his plate carefully.
He cleared his thoughts out and worked on picking out all the sticks on the grilled meat trays in front of Slime.
If they got stuck in his throat and he dies, the King will blame him. Then maybe try to get Sigma as compensation for what happened. Sorren really wanted to avoid that.
Slime looked away without saying anything. He remembered how he had thought of that Prince as a girl during the Lycan Packs Meeting, and he felt embarrassed.
It was while taking the gift from the King that the King told him about the pretty girl he saw once being a male, and the Prince Sorren that the King wasn’t fond of.
Sorren threw the sticks far away so Slime wouldn’t think of going to get them. He noticed the young man stopped eating and wondered if he planned to leave already? "Do you plan to return today?"
Slime knew he had to answer. "Yes. We’d reach tomorrow morning." He ate a piece of meat and it melted into his tongue, his cheeks heated up and he kept up gobbling everything, not listening to what Sorren said.
"Rogues are on the road. Travelling tomorrow morning will be better." Sorren suggested. "Also, your elder seemed to have found a lodge, so you should let him rest..."
He accepted that the boy wasn’t listening and stepped back. It reminded him of how Sigma sometimes zoned out when in the presence of food.
A contented exhale left Sorren when he saw everything was moving basically well and Sigma was smiling and jumping from gift to gift.
It warmed him that they could throw a celebration for him after a long while, since his fifth birthday.
"No." he said immediately when Stefan came close to him.
It really scared Stefan sometimes, how his younger brother knew what he wanted to say before he said it. "You really don’t want a celebration of your own?"
Sorren gave him the ’I already answered that’ look and Stefan sighed, rubbing his neck. Stefan’s eyes shifted to the twins dancing around the young Beta of Green Valleys.
That little boy sometimes gave him anger issues because he was the most proud child he could remember, or maybe it’s the ladies always with him.
It gave a really disturbing vibe and he wondered what he needed them for all the time. "Right. Baxter said that the young Beta of Green Valleys might not really like Sigma."
Sorren’s shoulders slumped as he sensed another unforeseen trouble with that. So Zeldris had good reasons to worry about his gift? "Is it the gift?"
"What gift?"
Sorren shook his head. If Baxter thought that due to his gift then it must mean the gift was be disrespectful but if so, he’d have called the young Beta out on it and Sigma wouldn’t have been happy about the gift.
So if Baxter just thought that from previous incidents then he might need to take his words for it since he didn’t know about the Beta and the happenings at Green Valleys.
He quickly walked over to where Sigma sat while eating. "Sigma, the gift from the young Beta of Green Valleys, what’s the gift like?"
Sigma hummed, he didn’t see the problem with the gift but his cousin had said it had a hidden meaning in it. He answered by going to retrieve the gift and going to the back of the hall to open it.
Sorren saw a medium sized mechanics that looked like a chandelier or a tower, having different colored jewel stones dangling from the roof.
There were shiny jewelries that were pleasant to look at so what’s wrong with a flashy gift like this? It just showed how flashy the young Beta thought, didn’t it?
"Do you like it?"
Sigma nodded multiple times, and that’s all that mattered to Sorren. It was a shiny gift, with little practicality but it didn’t matter if the receiver liked it.
Sorren nodded and shifted towards Baxter. The Lead Warrior frowned a bit when he saw the Prince coming but exhaled, not wanting to be rude since the Prince hosted his little cousin’s birthday celebration.
"What’s wrong with the gift Sigma received from the young Beta of Green Valleys? And in what instance did you confirm that the young Beta disliked Sigma?"
Baxter hesitated. He didn’t expect Sorren to immediately get wind of what he had said. He looked down, trying to remember. It started with how the young Beta ignored Sigma a lot on the day he tried seeing the Princess.
"For the gift, it’s a redesigned dog toy actually. I’ve seen it somewhere and instead of jewelry, it’s dog bones or treats tied to the tower. It’s very similar so gives me a bad vibe."
Baxter frowned glaring at the direction the Green Valleys’ officials stayed. It was like calling his Sigma an expensive dog and that was no compliment.
Sorren remembered seeing something similar and it truly looked like it but with shinier aesthetics. It might not be a coincidence. "Sigma likes it." He finalized. "He keeps it."
Baxter accepted. His cousins truly looked happy. "Also, the young Beta’s servants are rude to Sigma and pointed a sword at him when he came close to the young Beta."
Sorren didn’t know how to react to that. Those servants were probably just showing their dislike for Black Claws officials like normal but pointing a sword may mean that they wanted to kill the official.
They never really go that far. Was this another result of Laurel’s sudden hatred for them? "When did that happen?"
"It’s been months, around the time I recently came here."
Sorren nodded. Then that behavior had nothing to do with Laurel’s sudden attitude. The young Beta might have a special issue with Sigma and Sorren could guess what.
"Sigma had killed the weakened former Beta of Green Valleys during that raid. The young Beta might be aware." Sorren tried to explain. "Just keep watch on Sigma."
On hearing that, Baxter’s hatred dissipated. So it wasn’t just a sudden hatred for his cousin but a righteousness one? Again, the effect of that war still lingered.
