Chapter 365: Snarky
Chapter Three Hundred-Sixty-Five – Snarky
Laurel gritted her teeth and tried to hold it in. Was she being attacked for speaking out of concern for his health?
Who wouldn’t want to be in good shape for their birthday party? She looked down on her body and sighed. It’s not like she didn’t know how unattractive it was, but she’d not accept that in front of Sigma.
"W-What do you know? My body is ideal and even some people had mistaken to be the Moon Goddess’ at times."
"The person’s sight must be getting old." Sigma snapped. "So they had really mistaken it for something ideal."
Laurel felt stabbed again because indeed, the person was an old wolf with poor sight. She didn’t come to get burnt by a snarky young man, and since when was he this snarky?
He was becoming more like his mother, Sorren. She didn’t even annoy him first to get eaten up like this. He’s really changing.
She looked ahead and scoffed. "Call my body whatever you want but I’ve had many able men call me beautiful—"
"Out of pity." Sigma snapped again before walking away.
Laurel shook in that spot, whispering prayers to the Goddess to calm her down before she ripped birthday boy to shreds. Was he in a good mood because he’d be plus one soon? He didn’t need to rub it all on her.
She had no idea how birthdays should feel because she always had a mix of panic when she turned older because she wasn’t sure what the future held for her.
She turned to his retreating figure and glared at it before hurrying into the kitchen to drop what Jessika had given her. Just that at that point, she bumped into someone.
She bowed and tried to walk away when he heard her arm. "Sorry about that."
She pulled her arm away, she should be the one apologizing for bumping into him but she just wanted to go home. "It’s nothing, Alpha. I bumped into you first—"
"No, I mean Sigma. Sorren must’ve taught him how to block his mind link so I couldn’t access it from my distance. When I came close, he already left."
Laurel’s face reddened and she pleaded with the walls to absorb her. So he had heard everything that Sigma said?
She rubbed her red face, trying to ease the embarrassment. It didn’t matter, after all, he had said stuff like that to her before. "As I said, it’s fine—"
"You are beautiful, Laurel." Stefan made it clear. "Sigma was just being sharp tongued and I’d talk to him about it."
Laurel paused, then turned to him with a forced smile. "I see. Thank you for that. Please, excuse me." She continued towards the kitchen.
Many always gave her compliment to make her feel better, she’s used to it now. She’d actually surprise those who gave her half assed compliments by looking so good that they’d lose their ability to speak. Definitely.
Stefan stood there, his heart beating incoherently. Was her smile genuine? But he was just happy she smiled at him, and accepted his compliment.
He frowned as he turned towards the direction Sigma went past. That young boy had really grown a pair of wings and he didn’t even know who to blame.
Dylan that had a badmouth but didn’t use it on superiors? Or Sorren who had the confidence to say whatever he wanted to say? Those were Sigma’s closest confidants.
"I’d just talk to him about it first—" he paused when he noticed Laurel returning from the kitchen. "Are you currently busy? If you don’t mind, have tea with me."
She glanced at him and sighed tiredly. Could they be something important he had to say or this was something to progress the relationship he wanted them to have?
"Alpha, have you ever heard about the wolves of Yudan from the books you read?" she changed the topic.
Stefan didn’t mind, as long as she spoke with him, he looked up and slowly shook his head. "What did they do?"
It occurred to him that Yudan was the place that white haired guest of hers came from but there was nothing specific about their wolves in any book.
"Oh, nothing much. I thought you knew." Laurel folded her arms. "No one seems to know find out anything and Thales had been stuck."
They might be something about the abilities that was written somewhere so she’d be able to utilize her memory recollection.
She should also ask Quincy if they’d been any wolf in Yudan who had a gift so she’d understand how rare her case was. It’d be nice if it wasn’t totally rare.
"I’d find it out for you." Stefan offered. "Yudan wolves, right? What exactly do you want to know about them?"
In actuality, Stefan had already begun making research about the tribe since Quincy spoke about it being related to Laurel’s lineage.
For many reasons, including a possible war to retake Green Valleys in the future, he needed to know their battle force and know if he had to make the first move.
Laurel added the information she knew. "Please do. Afficus. He had written a book about them but that one didn’t have much knowledge. Thank you."
Since it seemed he didn’t want to give up on getting tiny interactions with her, Laurel was bent on stuffing them with requests all the time till he gave up.
Stefan smiled as she left. She didn’t accept to have tea with him but she’d asked a favor from him that he’d do his all to achieve.
If she’s suspicious about this tribe and Quincy then it’s good that she’s being conscious. He hurried out to ask her a final question. "Will you be attending Sigma’s celebrat—"
"No." that answer came really fast.
She didn’t plan to go before, but now, she didn’t want to wish him a happy birthday on the D-day. "An official will attend along with anyone else that wants to."
It disappointed Stefan, but he accepted. He watched her leave. "I’d have really liked to ask you for a dance."
When Laurel returned to the Lead Warrior’s quarters, she began venting on the walls while remembering all Sigma had said to her. That little lycan deserved a beating.
She felt her knuckles hurting from the impact to the wall and she opened her closed eyes. Blood was all over the wall and her hands, some were on the ground too.
Had she grown so strong that she could injure the wall to such great degree? Or could it be... a new rank?!
"Finally! Delta Rank!" she reached for her wolf, Elma. "Hey, why didn’t you tell me? I realize now that it must be why I’ve been so over the top lately."
Elma sighed. "When aren’t you over the top? I said nothing because you might end up toppling the top!"
Laurel blew raspberries as she ran out of the quarters, she ran so fast that the servants only noticed something pass without knowing what it was.
"Finally, I can handle this thing that had been bothering me." She stopped in front of the border. The lycan warriors glared at her seriously before releasing her to go.
She was now a Delta Rank so their acts didn’t bother her, after all, she didn’t want to seriously kill any of them.
She cat walked out with a spring in her steps and their frowns released seeing her happy and not causing trouble, even after they glared at her.
One of them nudged the other. "The princess is kinda cute when she’s not causing troubles, no?"
The other huffed but didn’t deny it. The Princess was still their enemy’s daughter so they could never like her no matter how beautiful she was growing up to be.
Laurel hurried into the forests while keeping her senses keen. She had sent a letter to Sir Darren about Frida possibly planning to kill Delta Sigma.
Since she didn’t succeed and he returned to Green Valleys, it’s possible that she’d try again during his birthday celebration at High Mountains.
It’d be big and she wouldn’t be able to escape unscathed. If she decides to kill her in front of everyone, it’d send an emotional blow to her younger brother.
Also, it wouldn’t exempt Sir Darren as the one who could’ve sent her to do that. A truly foolproof plan was committing the crime and not leaving any trace.
The only thing Frida could do was to postpone the plan till after his birthday. Laurel sighed. "Sorry Sigma, but it seems you might not get to eighteen."
Those Beta’s children could be really wicked when they wanted to achieve something but at the end of the day, they were avenging their loved ones.
"Frida?" she stood in front of a cave that Valkyrie had said Frida planted some rogues to kill Lead Warrior Baxter. "It’s Princess Laurel. I’d like to speak to you about something."
