Chapter 358: She, a curse
Chapter Three Hundred-Fifty-Eight – She, a curse
If everything had been a curse all along...
The reason for her pack hating wouldn’t be farfetched because she’s a curse that killed her mother.
In a way, her pack had been right all along. If her mother didn’t birth her, she’d not have died.
If her father had known, he’d have accepted that it was meant to be and not attack a Kingdom over it, causing all these to have happened.
"Also, to break the curse, a child should never have child." Quincy looked up as he remembered. "I think something like that, but it’s quite hard to do."
"How?" Laurel asked immediately.
How was it hard for one child to decide not to give birth to break the curse? But she realized that it would mean that their generation would end, that’s still a curse.
Her grandfather definitely came from a powerful family so stopping the lineage like that wouldn’t be considered.
However, as it got to her, it’s bound to end. Her father didn’t even give her the family name so it ends with her.
Quincy said nothing when he felt she understood everything. He didn’t think he’d be the one to tell her all that. Afficus didn’t even leave a note anywhere?
"Your grandfather tried to run from it, but I think it didn’t work." He said, trying to make her feel better. "The curse outlived his generation to yours."
Laurel felt like yanking her hair out of her head but self control kept her grounded. What did she ever do to the Moon Goddess to make her go through this always?
Her family couldn’t be complete and worse, it was cursed to be that way. There’s really no happiness for her.
This just brought another reason why she could never be with Stefan, and ironically, it’s for his own safety.
Her heart sank and she wondered why. This should be a good snap to reality for her, shouldn’t it? She and Stefan were never meant to be and the curse made sure of it.
She wiped a tear that left her eyes. "It’s okay... we have to find... I have to find a way to break it." She didn’t want to be a burden to someone. "Or just live with it."
"My grandmother’s and my mother’s death were cursed." She muttered. That’s why she never got to meet any of them. If her mother knew, she’d have stayed with her.
Seeing how hard she took it, Quincy regretted bringing it up when he didn’t have a solution. He lightly tapped her back till he stopped hearing the soft sobs.
Laurel left the ground she sat on, and headed to her room. Quincy got worried because Zeldris had said to protect the Princess but he had depressed her instead.
"H-Hopefully, she’d feel better by the time he returns." He said, while leaving the hall. "This might be my chance to explore." He looked outside the door expectantly.
He snuck out when no one was outside and headed to the Black Claws Pack’s Beta’s quarters, ignoring the stairs some men gave him because his hair was poured down.
He had noticed a scent on lycan Beta earlier and that’s why he got close the first time.
It was a scent of a flower that had leaves that could enhance physical strength, a multipurpose plant as it could be eaten or turned to ointment and perfume.
At Yudan, there were very expensive because they didn’t grow well there and many rich people rather use them for perfume than herbs for physical strength.
To be fair, they didn’t need additional physical strength and Quincy only needed it because of his weak but huge wolf. He wasn’t built as strong as a wolf but it’d be hard to believe because of his height when he shifts.
There were no guards at the Beta’s quarters, and a group of servants were bringing in bags of good. There were all female so Quincy quickly tied his hair in a messy bun.
The hairstyle tend to accentuate his feminine looks. His clothes were a loose gown that hid the trousers under.
He quickly carried a bag before an older servant and the servant smiled at him and picked a bag of her own.
He followed the servant into the Beta’s quarters and towards their kitchen. From the kitchen, he could perceive the scent of the flower at the backyard.
He sneaked out of the kitchen and went towards the backyard. His heart kept on pounding ridiculously because he knew he was being stupid for infiltrating the place.
He kept on clearing his throat as he went to the backyard so that if he’s caught, he could easily switch to the girl voice he had been training.
"Found it." He said in a girly voice and dropped the bag on a pavement. The bag slipped down and fell on something laid on the ground. "What’s that now?"
The figure on the ground rose up and Quincy tried not to scream, he grabbed a handful of the white flower and hid behind him. He saw the figure was a lady and relaxed.
If it had been that Beta that caught him, he’d possibly tear him to pieces for sneaking in. This lady looked depressed so might not have the time.
"What are you doing here? Planting seeds here? There’s already a flower." the lady sighed, leaning on the wall.
Quincy looked around and realized he’s the one she spoke to. He flung his hair back, trying to act as girly and submissive as possible till he gets out. "Y-Yes."
"What? ’Yes’? That’s how you respond to me now? From Lady Cara to ’yes’... you’re new here, right? Is that hair dyed? Natural?"
Quincy absentmindedly rolled his eyes. She sure had a lot of questions and who the hell was Lady Cara? Never heard of her in all Zeldris’s stories of problematic officials.
He looked up and saw her widened eyes. She definitely saw him roll his eyes but he couldn’t tell if she was pissed or pleased with that small smile on her face.
"You don’t work here, do you? What are you doing here?" she asked, while slowly nodding.
Her voice was calm but it didn’t calm Quincy who’d prefer she flared up like a normal person would.
Quincy looked around while his brain tried to look for the words to make a clean escape with.
"Um... I am from Green Valleys and I came to see the Beta because, um... the Prin... no, the Beta... wait.... The Delta... wanted these plants."
Quincy decided to use the Delta since the Princess and the Beta were less likely to care about plants. Escanor would side him in the lie if he told him what happened.
Cara’s eyes lowered on hearing about the Green Valleys’ Delta, her heart warmed a bit and she hated the feeling.
"He likes flowers? I don’t think those ones are anything special apart from their nice smell. They’re not pretty too."
Quincy resisted the urge to smudge her face to the ground, they were the best flowers and his favorite due to their multiple purpose use and she dared to slander it!
Did they plant it at the backyard because they thought it wasn’t really good? Cara strolled to the front yard.
"Follow me to see my brother. Are you a servant at Green Valleys?"
Quincy searched for an escape route vehemently this time. To see her brother? Couldn’t she tell no one would want to see him so easily? "I’m scared, I’d just go back."
Scared? Cara’s brows knitted together. She knew that they were werewolves who were scared of her brother but for them to say it so openly annoyed her.
She shouldn’t care about what others thought about her brother but she also wanted the servant girl to stay and tell her more about the Delta.
"Follow me." She said with a stricter tone.
Quincy exhaled. There was no way he’d follow her to that Beta because he’d definitely recognize him and beat the shit out of him for sneaking into his quarters.
Cara began moving and Quincy followed her into the kitchen to drop the bag of goods he held, then quickly, he sprinted out of the quarters.
By the time Cara turned, he’d already crossed the quarters so she stopped herself from running after him.
In annoyance, she stomped to her brother’s room because who else to pour the blame on but him?
"Did you kill someone at Green Valleys? Why are they all scared of you and now hate me!" her tone was bitter but with a hint of sarcasm. She didn’t think he killed anyone.
She hadn’t been able to make one good connection here and while that could be because of her character, she still knew it wasn’t so difficult to make connections before.
Her sudden barging in made Cade to frown but when he heard her words and the tone, he felt stabbed at the chest. He remembered Jessika looking at him fearfully.
Could it be that little white haired girl died? He didn’t think of the possibility since she had a big wolf.
