Chapter 350: Feeling Defeated

Chapter Three Hundred-Fifty – Feeling Defeated

As Laurel walked out of the place with a small smile after seeing the young Beta seemingly playing, something clicked just outside his quarters.

She continued moving without going back to get confirmation because the probability was high. She had totally forgotten about that other menace. Frida.

If the Beta wouldn’t be taking revenge because he’s the Beta, Frida would do it. She’d made an assault on a lycan before. Those siblings were fearless.

And with Black Thorns existing, it wouldn’t cost anything to sneak in there and plan to assassinate the Delta. Even if she’s caught, they’d be no connection to Green Valleys.

She might be connected to Sir Darren but if he denied the allegation and make it sound like she worked alone totally, only Frida will take the consequence.

Did she really want to throw her life away like that?

"Princess?" Laurel stopped moving when she heard Escanor behind her. She looked towards Silent River and wondered if she could warn Sir Darren of this.

"Get Zeldris for me." She told him and took the letter in his hands. She paused when she saw the letter came from Damancas and she quickly opened it.

They must be trying to thank her for her cooperation in distracting the King in order to handle his lab, but the letter was less concise and spoke of the visit of the Princes.

Laurel squeezed the letter and nearly threw it away if not she remembered it was sent by the King and Queen and not their flirty sons. Couldn’t they write it all on paper?

"If I get flirted with again, they are going home with broken legs." She rasped. As far as she knew, she’s still a minor who shouldn’t be involved in all these love shenanigans.

Also, as she had that Alpha Stefan overseeing most of the things that’d be happening, it’d be bad if they get mistreated for flirting with her.

She didn’t want him being jealous or protective of her and the Princes assuming that there’s something between she and the Lycan Alpha.

There was nothing apart from the mate bond.

Zeldris strolled to her side while she contemplated and she pushed the thought of Frida behind her back and gave him the letter. "Princes from Damancas will be coming."

Zeldris remembered the Prince of Damancas they met and what Thales had said about them. That’d mean protecting the Princess from their immoral antics.

"I’d handle it. Why do you look bothered?" he hit the letter lightly on her head. Laurel only hummed incoherently and hurried into the Lead Warrior’s quarters.

She’d just need to write a letter to Sir Darren and inform him of what’s happening. That’s the only way to handle it.

Zeldris watched her leave and felt a sense of defeat as she seemed to still be worried over things when he’s by her side.

He couldn’t shake off the helplessness he felt at High Moon when the Princess he was to protect became out of his reach and feeling scared where she was.

Only Thales could go in and out but he’d been busy with the mission Damancas had given him to destroy the labs. Once again, Zeldris thought hard on learning magic.

They were a lot of things he had lost and he didn’t want to keep losing because of his weakness. Being a Delta ranked wolf surrounded by lycans and witches didn’t help.

"What are you thinking about?" Jessika popped besides him, holding an empty tray. She gave him side glances as he had been staring at the Princess’ retreating figure.

Zeldris’s cheeks heated up but he hid his face. "It’s not that, I was just thinking about how weak I am."

Jessika’s suspicious expression dropped, she walked out of the quarters and towards the Lead Hunter’s quarters.

Zeldris followed her since she didn’t make any reaction to his comment. "You don’t worry about being weak?"

Jessika dropped the tray in the kitchen and exhaled deeply. "I do." Since she worked as a cook after being a warrior, there was no day that she didn’t feel vulnerable.

Vulnerable because she had been under a wrong identity and because she’s only a warrior ranked amongst alphas and lycans. "Beta Cade makes me feel like the weakest."

Zeldris had flashbacks to the Beta attacking Quincy and his eyes darkened. Truly, that Beta had a dangerous aura and bullied those who he deemed as weak.

"I’m sorry that I couldn’t protect the Princess and bring her back on time." Zeldris blurted. "I am sorry I couldn’t protect Quincy either. I’m sorry for everything."

They three, Jessika, the Princess, and Lisa had been the ones who brought him out of his slavery from those elders and in return, he had to protect their Princess.

The amount of times he’d failed in doing that made him want to destroy himself in shame and guilt, but his pride also wanted him to recover and do what’s right.

Jessika related to those feelings as she came into Green Valleys as a spy for Silent River Alpha when she should’ve been his warrior. They ended up being killed by lycans.

And now, Sir Darren that she should be serving to make up for her incompetency was surrounding by more capable people. He didn’t need her anymore.

"You just have to keep doing your best." She forced a smile. "Or in my case, channel your energy to something that can help. Everyone loves my cooking now."

Zeldris smiled back, feeling relieved to hear that. He knew he couldn’t do anything else than what he’d been given, but he liked that she understood his worries.

The girls at the quarters ran inside their rooms when a new presence joined them. Zeldris frowned and stood in front of Jessika, blocking him from her.

Jessika’s breathing quickened but she managed to say. "B-Beta Cade, do you need something?" it’d probably be medicinal soup for the sick Sigma. "I’d get it for—"

Cade came closer when he noticed the knight become more alert. "Is there a reason you’re doing that?"

Zeldris raised a brow. Did he seriously ask that? Wasn’t it obvious that he was a six foot monster with sharp claws that could harm everyone in this quarters?
