Chapter 349: Soft

Chapter Three Hundred-Forty-Nine – Soft

Laurel was pissed when Quincy asked her not to make a deal out of Cade’s sudden attack. In his words, he had come too close to the Beta and frightened him.

"I know my wolf is really big but sometimes I forget. I only wanted to come close enough to sense his rank but got too close." Quincy had told her.

It didn’t cut it for Laurel but she accepted it if that’s what he wanted. He’d fallen asleep right after getting treated. His bleeding only stopped after Jessika’s medicinal soup.

She hadn’t even introduced him to the others so Jessika was stunned to know he was male and Beta Cade had attacked him. It spread amongst them quickly.

The new guest of the Princess with white hair had been attacked by Beta Cade and survived. It had been blown out of proportion but Laurel didn’t care to correct it.

As long as the people didn’t hear it and get scared of Cade when they should treat him normally.

They were their captors and they could do nothing but gnash their teeth. Laurel was sure that Cade hadn’t been scared and only wanted to get back at her for saying she didn’t care about what happened to Sigma.

She was also glad that she landed a hit but it wasn’t enough to send him down. "I need to be stronger to protect myself and those around me."

She left Quincy’s room and headed out of the Beta’s quarters were Quincy’s room was located. She stopped in front of a room the Beta used and contemplated going in.

He never gave her an answer on handling Sigma. Anything he did could affect Green Valleys negatively.

She went to the door and knocked, she opened when she heard a reply. That first room at the young Beta’s quarters was filled with colorful soft mattresses laid on the ground.

Peeking in and seeing nothing but the soft mattresses, she strolled in and stepped on a soft mattress.

"Hey, hey—" the young Beta popped up from under a mattress and paused on seeing her. "Princess Laurel, did you need something?"

Laurel paused, staring at him. What had he been doing? She just saw him materialize from under a mattress like he teleported there? Was he playing house or what?

The thought of her young Beta playing house would scare her because he didn’t act like a child. Also, there was no one else in the room to play house with.

"You are alone here?"

He nodded and fell back on the mattress that sank him in, making him out of sight. Laurel looked down at the mattress she stood on. It didn’t sink that low.

She closed the door, as if she wanted to hide the illegal activity her beta was doing. No matter how it looked, this room looked like his playhouse and he’s all alone in it.

"I wanted to speak with you about Delta Sigma."

She kept her eyes on the soft bean-shaped mattress he buried in. She noticed him move to another soft bean and popped up from it.

There’s no way he wasn’t just playing in here, but he did it so unapologetically like it shouldn’t be weird to see, and he still wore his straight face.

It creeped Laurel out. "Do you plan to do anything that’d endanger his life? You know what it costs, don’t you?" she kept her eyes on him so he wouldn’t disappear again.

His eyes met hers, looking uninterested in her presence. "I don’t plan to do anything to the Delta. I don’t like him but I like the peace of mind that I have right now."

The Princess sat straight on the mattress. Did she hear him right? So he didn’t want to destroy the Delta as she thought and really didn’t care about any of it?

Then why did he want to know about the particular magical item that caused the Delta to pass out? "Are you sure, Beta Ferdinand? This is important."

He folded his arms and had a slightly pouty expression. It’s the first time Laurel ever saw him having a child like expression on his face and he looked like she bothered his play time. She cleared her throat.

"I guess you are right then. What are you doing though?" she had to ask, using that to stay longer on the soft mattresses as well.

"I lost a jewelry here." He said flatly and disappeared inside the soft beans again. Laurel nodded slowly. So that’s what he was doing?

"To be very clear, not doing anything and wanting to keep the peace doesn’t mean nothing’s going to happen to the Delta. It just wouldn’t be done by me." He added.

Laurel smiled. Was he prophesying something to happen to the Delta? "I understand. The most important thing is you not getting in trouble for it—"

"The Alpha had bothered me about your whereabouts while you were still at High Moon." He suddenly changed the topic. "Do you think he grew attached to you?"

The sudden change made Laurel’s throat go sore and she rubbed them gently. She hummed as response but it didn’t say much and made Ferdinand study her intently.

"He’s not being creepy to you, is he? He had a fiancée as I heard but they didn’t work for some reason." He sat up on a soft bean but his body sunk in. "Well, is he?"

Laurel found her tongue and sighed. "What do you think I am? A statue that would let him be creepy with me?"

The Beta crawled to another soft bean and sank in. "Okay."

At some point, Laurel became envious of the place he seemed to be playing in but she groaned and left the mattress. "Let’s all do our best for Green Valleys, okay?"

She heard his muffled hum under a mattress and smiled. This will probably be the closest to a child she’d seen him.

Though if she thought hard on it, she’d seen him clinging to his mother a lot of times while joining Frida to bother her. She had been envious of him too, back then.
