Chapter 347: Murderers
Chapter Three Hundred-Forty-Seven – Murderers
Laurel stood outside the gate with folded hands. This took longer than she expected, she only wanted to bring back as many shapes of leaves as possible because the twins demanded it.
She still didn’t know what they wanted to do with all those leaves but someone must’ve taught them a trick. Quincy and Zeldris left to bring it and hadn’t returned till now.
It left her chest, the secret on what started the war. Quincy didn’t react to it as much as she wanted but Zeldris had sided her father and it made Laurel feel better.
She rested on the wall and sighed, she had nothing to do but she wouldn’t complain, it’s better than being locked up.
Someone cleared his throat besides her but she didn’t turn to them. It’s been a while since she saw him and she’s sure he didn’t miss her so there’s no reason to talk.
The incident with the young Beta reminded her that these people took her happiness and she shouldn’t be smiling with them. The one besides her had even killed her father.
Beta Cade frowned at being ignored, he looked ahead to check what she was looking at but there was nothing.
He had been worried for her safety but maybe he shouldn’t have. The Alpha had returned to his study looking defeated and he knew she’d be at fault.
"Just so you know, the Alpha had been worried for your safety as well." He started. "We know how that King act."
"And so what? My officials had been worried about my safety too. What makes his own worrying special?" She asked without looking at him. "Nothing."
Nothing? Cade folded his arms. "Didn’t Prince Sorren come to rescue you? Who do you think sent him? Or did you think Prince Sorren will willing go through the pain?"
The Beta scoffed internally. How entitled could she be? Prince Sorren wouldn’t even move if he, the Beta to their pack, was on his dying bed.
So why did she think Sorren came by his own will? Only the Alpha could’ve convinced him to go since he might have a way to manipulate the King into releasing her.
But Laurel scoffed, out loud. "You haven’t been told?" she finally faced him. "Lunaria tried having a war with High Moon Kingdom because of your crazy King’s practice. Sorren went there to convince him to stop."
Cade’s body became pale and he stared at her, frozen. Lunaria tried having a war with High Moon? That’s a repeat of what caused the Great war fifteen years ago, wasn’t it? How did they find out about his practices?
She added. "And he didn’t save me. I had Thales and Zeno do it for me. I’d have returned if not of that case. Imagine, I was sticking my head out for your murderers."
Cade snapped from his thoughts when he heard her say
Murderers? So she’s back to seeing them as her captors? Did something happen back at High Moon?
It’s probable since that King placed her in a demeaning situation and she reflected on all the terrible things she had suffered in the hands of Lycans.
Did she hate Lycans? But if she tried to stick her head for them then she probably didn’t, right? They were the only Lycans she had deep hatred for.
She also had a hybrid as Delta so she’s probably open minded. Cade sighed and looked ahead. There was no one still coming but she still stood there.
"Well then, I’d be going to pay Sigma a visit. Something happened to him at the King’s palace, right?"
Laurel frowned and looked away. There’s no telling when her young Beta would strike so Sigma’s good health might not last for long. She didn’t like the boy enough to care either. Her life at the prison were worsened by him anyway.
"Honestly, I can’t even think of any happy memories with you officials." It left her lips. "Why should I care what happens to any of you?" she glared at Cade.
A protective feeling engulfed Cade’s heart. She didn’t care what happened to Sigma as well? Weren’t they close? At least for Sorren’s sake, didn’t she like Sorren?
He huffed and walked away. If she hated them then they had to keep their distance because she had the brains to undo them. He didn’t want anything hurting young Sigma.
As he moved, he noticed the pebbles on the ground shaking slightly. Could something heavy be coming? He stopped moving and looked ahead and his jaw dropped.
A twelve feet wolf sped in front of him and it took him his all not to fall back, he slowly walked back but the wolf bent its head towards him. By instincts, he swung his claws at it and it barely dodged it.
"Bastard!" Laurel yelled.
Before Cade could turn, her leg slammed on his neck, hitting him back. He staggered and turned to Laurel. What’s wrong with her today?
He watched her run towards the wolf that shook its head dripping with blood. It hadn’t been a clean hit but it did damage.
Laurel seethed on seeing the wound Quincy sustained. How could Cade just attack the next thing he sees without provocation?
She took off her jacket for Quincy as he shifted and fell on her. "Zeldris?" she called when she saw him running to her. "Why did you let him come out like this?"
Zeldris tried to form words but nothing came out. He had been stunned to see such a big wolf as well.
They needed to get leaves from a taller tree and none of them felt like climbing so he decided to shift so Zeldris could climb.
Zeldris didn’t imagine that his wolf would be that big. "Who hurt him..." he trailed off when he saw the culprit staring at them with wide eyes.
He left their side and protected them from him. "What do you think you’re doing, Beta Cade? Why did you attack a member of Green Valleys?"
That snapped the Beta from his thoughts and he kept his blood stained claws behind him. That wolf turned to a young girl? And she’s a member of Laurel’s pack?
"S-Sorry, excuse me." He hurried towards High Mountains where he was heading to. What kind of creature was that? Was this how Green Valleys’ wolf were? What happened?
