Chapter 344: Guilty
Chapter Three Hundred-Forty-Four – Guilty
As Stefan carried Saki inside, Sorren’s mind wandered who the white haired girl Laurel would’ve brought. He remembered how he had passed out.
While reading, a choking gas had been spread around the carriages and he felt an energy around them. The gas was hard to withstand no matter how much he wanted to.
He ended up passed out but noticed the huge silhouette of a wolf outside the carriage. It struck fear in his heart as Sigma was too weak to protect himself.
"Did the wolf let them be? Who’s the white haired girl?" he asked himself as he followed Stefan back into the quarters. "You might need to return to Green Valleys." He told Stefan. "I am really sure we were attacked, and that white haired girl might be connected to it."
Stefan threw Saki down roughly and clenched his fists. Could his mate have been forced to something right before his eyes? He looked at Sigma. "He’s fine, right?"
Sorren placed his palm on Sigma’s head and found it warm, he nodded. "He is fine."
Flashes of Sigma coughing out blood whiffed past his eyes and he felt weak in the legs, he reached for a chair and sat on it.
Stefan left without noticing this. Many more suspicious people had encircled themselves around his mate again. Zeldris, her new Delta, Thales, and now this girl.
Where did she even get these people? Damancas?
The warriors of Green Valleys at the gate turned pale when they found him returning. They had celebrated the Alpha leaving and the Princess returning.
The lycan Delta wasn’t in so only the Beta and Lead Warrior and few other lycans were the contenders of their pack, but things had returned to the bad kind of normal.
Stefan ignored their stares and went straight for the Lead Warrior’s quarters. He spotted two carriages there and was sure Laurel returned here.
Before he could open the gate of the quarters, a smaller hand held his. He turned to a young boy with red hair and glaring eyes. He pulled away. "Beta Ferdinand?"
He had been asking the boy to visit for long and he didn’t, yet dared to show his face to him? "You should meet me at my study later. I have some questions for you."
Beta Ferdinand politely bowed. "I’d decline, please. I have a lot on my plate and can’t spare tea time with you."
Tea time? Stefan closed his eyes for a while before opening them. The young Beta strolled past him, entering the gate and closing it after. "The Princess is tired and—"
"...will see me." Stefan interrupted, slapping the door open. "I’d like to get the full story on what happened at High Moon and what happened on the way here."
He stomped to the hall, ignoring the boy’s calls. How could that preteen have such an authoritative and condescending tone when speaking to him? Did his status as his Alpha not do anything to him?
He slammed the door of the hall open. He froze, staring at the four of them. Another red haired man stood before Laurel, and she connected his hand with the white haired girl. Meanwhile Zeldris stood in front of three of them. Was this a wedding?
Stefan slowly walked in, feeling a pang of guilt for barging in. Could the white haired girl be a bride to the red haired young man that’s possibly Green Valleys’ Delta?
"Laurel, I’d like to have a word with you." He said, ignoring the demanding stares her officials had.
Zeldris pulled Escanor back when he tried going towards the Alpha and kept Quincy behind him too. The Alpha just waltzed in as if he owned the place?
Quincy released his hand from Escanor’s hold and stayed close to the Princess.
Laurel froze, Quincy had noticed, she wouldn’t expect the Alpha to be here, openly calling to her.
"Alpha Stefan of Black Claws Kingdom, no?" Quincy asked, and pulled Laurel behind him and to Zeldris.
Stefan’s heart skipped a beat when he heard Quincy’s voice. That had been a boy? He remembered how he stared at him and how he pulled his mate away.
He watched him pull her away from him again. Veins popped on his forehead in annoyance but he kept a straight face. "And your name, say it this time."
Another clingy official Laurel brought? Why did she need another when she had Zeldris that obviously didn’t know personal space? Stefan had many questions.
"I’m from the tribe of Yudan, you definitely hadn’t heard of it, at the West. I came per my grandfather’s instructions to see King Titus. My name is Quincy."
Stefan frowned on hearing the King’s name. Since when did King Titus have allies from the West? "You must’ve heard, he’s dead."
Quincy nodded. "I heard from the Princess. You killed her father, and took the Kingdom. It was scary for her."
Laurel’s heard lowered as she remembered the many painful things she had to endure in that prison helplessly.
Stefan felt his heart being eaten by guilt.
So this Quincy’s protectiveness stemmed from what he knew of him? Stefan couldn’t blame him. The present him will protect his mate from his past self too.
"If you don’t mind, Alpha Stefan. The Princess returned from another frightening experience with another tyrant. She need rest." Quincy added, with a flat tone.
Laurel looked up quickly. Did he just openly call the Alpha a tyrant? She didn’t give him much details about her stay at High Moon and only complained about the King.
This Quincy had a really good way with words, emotionally manipulating the hearer. She saw Stefan filled with guilty and hated that it made her soften.
He should feel that guilt, and the pain as well. She let go of Quincy and Escanor and bowed quickly to the Alpha. "I’d take my leave first." She hurried out.
A hug from little Mira and Marino will heal the confusion, anger and distraught she felt, and once again, she’d rule her grandfather’s Kingdom with grace.
Now that she knew she had people in Yudan rooting for her, it made her feel more alive and never alone again.
