Chapter 335: A Baby

Chapter Three Hundred-Thirty-Five – A Baby

Babies had no sense of morality, King Asher was a baby.

Laurel didn’t think that’d be the first ’words of wisdom’ she’d receive that bright morning, the morning of her departure from the dreadful palace were she had been locked up by, according to Zeno’s words, a baby.

It didn’t make sense to Laurel but she could see how the King Asher didn’t move on from his childhood trauma of losing his mother during the war.

Did that make him a baby who could be excused with ’babies had no sense of morality’? Laurel concluded that Zeno was extremely forgiving.

He had even mentioned staying with the King for some days to keep him company. Laurel didn’t know what to make of it but Zeno seemed to have enough free time.

The King wouldn’t try anything stupid and the war with Lunaria had been averted, a war that Zeno had mentioned wasn’t really a war.

"Elma, I really didn’t understand that part." Laurel spoke to her wolf. "He asked me to join the Liberation Squad again to replace my mother but this time said it’s my last chance as it’d be replaced for upcoming events."

What event did Lunaria plan if not the war with High Moon Kingdom? Was there another adversary that they had to fight? No one had said anything yet.

"It’s not like a Kingdom like Lunaria could be attacked by any Kingdom. All surrounding Kingdoms knew better than to do something like that." Laurel convinced herself.

Zeno hadn’t been exact but there was a sense of urgency in his voice that worried her and made her guilty when she turned him down. She sighed, leaving her thoughts.

She sighted Sorren walking out of the mansion and sighed again. Zeno had even asked him if he wanted to join the pillar, that was really desperate, wasn’t it?

"Did they give a—" Laurel trailed of when she saw it in his hands. She smirked. The owner of that mansion had wicked servants that had sent Sigma into the forest were he got hurt.

When Laurel heard of it, she knew Sorren would never let it go so threatening the owner to repay him greatly, to keep the fact he hurt a King’s guest, was the least he’d do.

"Did you ask for money... what are you doing?" She asked when he climbed the carriage she was in and not the one Sigma laid asleep in.

Sorren fondled the bag of flower seeds in his hands, whole looking at Laurel quizzically. "What am I doing?"

"Won’t you look after Sigma?"

"He’s asleep and not really a gentle sleeper. Bebe is there to watch him though." Sorren answered, opening the bag of seeds to inspect them.

Laurel whispered words of prayers to Bebe, and felt disappointed when the bag revealed seeds, instead of gold that she expected. They better be rare seeds.

"Well, it’s not my precious child that got hurt." She muttered to herself, looking outside the window.

Now, they only needed Thales to handle Saki leaving the King. He’d gotten report from Damancas asking the witch Saki to work with Grand Witch Thales at Green Valleys.

Despite that, Laurel planned to accept Saki’s wish to work under Prince Sorren at High Mountains. All they needed was King Asher accepting Damancas’s report.

"He probably would." Elma said. "He’s probably tired of these big Kingdoms bothering him as well."

Laurel related to that too. She was fed up with powerful lycans ordering her about so when she’d return, she’d be really blunt if Alpha Stefan tried to squeeze unnecessary answers out of her.

"To be clear," Sorren kept the seeds inside his bag when he was sure they were healthy. "King Asher did nothing?"

’Nothing’? Laurel knew what he meant but needed to hear him to say it in full? Did they think she’d be the kind of lady to be still while ’something’ was done to her?

She caught scent of Thales, Saki and Zeldris coming out so decided to answer the question directly. "The King doesn’t think that way and you know it."

Sorren couldn’t be sure anymore. He saw a side of the King this time that could only be called his vulnerable side.

Perhaps, being King and not having the freedom to distract himself with things like before made him realize how lonely he felt. This was how Sorren saw it.

He also overheard what Zeno had told Laurel which confirmed his speculations. The King actually felt vulnerable these few days.

"It worries me that you, Sigma and Zeno might be people he’d turn to when he’d feel vulnerable again." Sorren said. He noticed Laurel huff. "What? Am I wrong?"

"I made sure I told him that I wasn’t available to be his therapist." Laurel replied. "He should cross me from—"

"The King does what he wants." Sorren interjected. "You should know by now. Rejection excites him and you spelling out your dislike would challenge him."

Laurel didn’t respond to that and only hoped that wouldn’t be true. She had been clear that she didn’t want to get involved with that King, she didn’t want him to feel dared.

Saki strolled to the carriage where they sat but Zeldris held her back, and pointed to one at the back. Saki frowned at him.

By her knowledge, he was Princess Laurel’s Knight... who spent a week without protecting her. "Is there a reason I can’t stay here?"

"You should sit with Delta Sigma, in case he wakes up and needs treatment. Bebe can’t do anything for him." Zeldris said, hoping Sorren would agree.

Sorren did immediately. "And you, Thales. In case."

Thales sighed and strolled to the second carriage. Saki eyed Zeldris up and down, before following Thales.

"And would Bebe stay in the last carriage alone?" Sorren asked. "The luggage are there, right?"

Zeldris stammered. "W-Well, she doesn’t seem to mind... and—"

"I’d like to ask the Princess about her affairs at Damancas, if you don’t mind." Sorren gestured to leave. "And I’d like to do so with no one around."

Zeldris felt sad that his effort to seat with them went to null, he noticed the Princess shrug and closed his eyes.
