Chapter Three Hundred-Thirty-Six – Questions

Zeldris felt defeated by Sorren’s gesture. The Prince was really a difficult one to get close to, and only Sigma and Dylan might be the only ones he truly cared about.

"He’d probably ask about his cousin." Laurel said to Zeldris in mind link. "I’d not tell him if you don’t want me to."

Zeldris opened his eyes and stared at Sorren, who still expected him to leave. Zeldris replied to Laurel in mind link.

"Don’t tell, or we’d have an awkward relationship. I’d like him to like me a little first, or else he might avoid me."

Princess Laurel wished she could tell him how hard it’d be getting Sorren to like him first, but she let it go, to keep giving him hope. Sorren was his only family left anyway. He should do his best to win him over.

The Knight finally left to the last carriage were Bebe relocated to. Laurel relaxed inside the carriage, feeling at home already.

"Did you say that to chase my knight away? Or do you have something you want to say?" She tried acting oblivious.

Sorren reconsidered if he should ask her about what she knew about his family and his cousin that she seemed to have a connection to.

Since the Damancas Queen knew she was with the boy, then could it be another official she sent to them? Sorren knew her Delta had been from Damancas.

"Tell me about your Delta?"

It was a totally random question that Laurel didn’t expect. She looked down at her palms. Was there a reason he wanted to know?

"Um... he’s a red-haired young man with... a distinct feature you might notice at first is that he’s a hybrid wolf. His mother was a beta wolf or something."

She replied while searching Sorren’s face to look for the reason he asked the question.

Her Delta didn’t have much going for him because he was still shy to make friends with anyone apart from those he met every day.

"Did someone tell you about him?" Laurel asked with a protective tone. "He barely causes trouble."

Sorren couldn’t make out much from what she said, but a red-haired sounded fun to see.

The hybrid wolf part stunned him, and he didn’t think his aunt would raise a hybrid wolf, even if he’s more wolf than lycan, at Damancas, and the child would get the Queen’s approval.

"You’ve no one else that’s more normal from Damancas?" He asked directly.

Laurel didn’t know how to avoid that question without bringing Zeldris up, so she refused to answer it. "I just realised that I don’t need to answer all that. Why all those questions?"

Sorren’s eyes dimmed on her. There was no one else around her that could fit the bill? Or she really didn’t want to answer it?

The only person from Damascus around her would be Delta and Thales. Zeldris and the young Beta had been at Green Valleys since forever, and there was no other male official around her.

Could his cousin be working as a servant under her then? Would Damancas exclusively send her servants?

They sent her witches and a Delta, but servants would be a stretch, wouldn’t it? He sighed, looking outside the window. "If you don’t want to answer, don’t answer, but you definitely know why I ask those questions."

Laurel smirked and leaned on the carriage wall. "Would you dote on your cousin if you do find him? He probably lived a hard life, you know."

"I don’t want to answer your questions either, Laurel." He stretched his hand to get a book from his bag.

Laurel suppressed her chuckles. So he was already angry at her, he usually called her Laurel without honorific when he was.

So, did he really want to meet his cousin? It’d probably be easier for Zeldris than she thought because Sorren would need to know they’re related before being nice to him.

She looked at the book he read and narrowed her eyes at it. It was about names for babies that could connect to places and abstract entities.

The title sounded confusing, so Laurel concluded that it’s a book about baby’s names.

"You haven’t met your mate yet, Sorren, to be interested in babies’ names. Or are you looking for the name your newborn mate would answer?" She asked with lidded eyes.

"I thought I told you not to talk to me." He said, still reading. Laurel shook her head. He was sulking, wasn’t he? Did he want to know information about his cousin this badly?

"Remember when I told you about... our mother’s meeting." He took the book down.

Laurel’s countenance changed a bit. Wssng he talkking to her now? And did he mean when his mother had suddenly killed hers over a misunderstanding?

Mothers’ meeting? Was that what he’d call it? She nodded. "Did you remember something else?"

Sorren turned the book to her and pointed a name. "Does the name sound familiar to you? Zena?"

Laurel wanted to reply that one of her officials answered that, and her lips had already opened before she closed it again. "What does it mean? It’s a Damancas name, isn’t it?"

Sorren hummed, looking at the book. "Well, it means ’Power’, and I remember my mother saying something like ’Zena Zacht’ most of the time." He held the book to his chest.

Laurel didn’t understand the need to teach her random knowledge. Zena, meaning power, was a good name, wasn’t it?

Then why did Zeldris hate it so much anyway? "Oh right, it’s also a magic word." She said when she remembered the reason Zeldris had given.

She realised and tilted her head. "Your mother said it a lot..." Zeldris did tell her that his mother was a witch too. Did that mean those words, ’Zena Zacht’, were magic words that seemed to do something wrong to others?

His mother had said that repeatedly, and it weakened her mother? She stared at Sorren as he stared quiet.

It was really unsettling to learn that his mother might’ve been a witch like this. "I’d ask Thales what it means. The Zena Zacht."
