Chapter Thirty-Two – Game II
Was Sorren going to show her a side of him that she’d always regret? She always said shit then regretted it later. Why was her life like this?
"My brother’s room is locked now. He isn’t around." Sorren finally broke the silence. "You’d have to manage."
Was that all? She watched him carefully and the dangerous stare he gave her was gone. So her fears had been unfounded.
She asked. "Where did he go? The least he’d have done was keep the drugs were someone else could see it." He really wanted her to die, didn’t he?
"Oh." Sorren glanced at her. "He went on a date with Jade. It’d take few days. They hadn’t had one in a while."
No words came from Laurel, making Sorren smile. "Eat first before we move you. You look so pathetic that those maids would think of bullying you if they saw you now."
Was she that bad? She quickly opened the lunchbox and began eating. She noticed Sorren left the prison but was probably outside as they wouldn’t live her all alone.
When she was done, she stayed on her bed, soaking in the comfort one last time. The quarters might be more lively but it also more uncomfortable.
"I don’t think I need to tell you, but at the maid quarters, don’t try imposing on anyone. They’re more warrior ranked wolfesses to ranks lower than yours."
Laurel looked up when Sorren spoke. He could tell that she wasn’t yet warrior ranked? That was a basic rank for children of an Alpha.
Then they’d take some field courses by drilling with the warriors. Those were the kind of lives children of Alpha’s lived, but not her.
"Now, I know better." She replied. "Let’s move. I’m done."
"I’m not." He deadpanned.
What’s he doing? Laurel stomped to the prison door. He was rested on it, running his hands, through his long hair. In that body suit, his muscular frame was more defined.
Laurel looked away like she could see through it. He’d definitely be used to young girls gawking at him, but he wouldn’t be getting that from her.
"Let’s go. I need to settle down before the trouble of my like starts."
"And what are those troubles of your life?" he cocked his head at her direction.
"Jade and Cade?"
"Well, I did tell you Jade is out with her fiancé and Cade is busy being temporary Alpha so just stick to your drills. And yes, they continue there." Sorren said.
By drills, he meant training for her to be strong, right? She wondered if she should ask why he’s training her. She brushed the thoughts aside.
She was yet to pinpoint any reason why he’d want to help her. Only recently did he find out that she’s his brother’s mate. The thoughts that he might be attracted to her had crossed her mind but Laurel knew it was fantastical thinking. He didn’t look capable of romantic love.
She glanced at him and sighed loudly. "While waiting for you to finish whatever you’re doing, keep me busy by telling me about your mate?"
Sorren stopped touching his hair and glared at her. She flinched back. Did she anger him again?
If it was a sensitive topic, he could just ignore her or raise an excuse. "I didn’t think I was entitled to keep you busy, young maiden." He frowned.
Laurel scoffed lightly. Again, he was taking offense on the wrong things. It mirrored how Sigma never got offended unless he was bored. Indeed, Sorren raised him.
"Okay then, don’t try to keep me busy. Just tell me about your mate." She rolled her eyes.
Sorren went back to his hair. "I haven’t found her yet."
Oh really? Laurel sighed. "Well, at least, you have that to look forward to. I have nothing to look forward to now."
"Eh?" Sorren smirked. "What about all those threats you threw at my brother? You don’t look forward to actualizing them?" He parted his hair and began to braid them.
Did he really want her to? Laurel had a small pout. "It will take a while though because..."
"I like weak to strong stories, Laurel." Sorren interrupted. "You better actualize them... or you’d bore me."
There was something about his tone. Laurel stayed quiet.
It’s like he was threatening her to actualize it. And it was a first time she could remember, that he called her name.
So that was his own cut in all these? Just watching her ’weak to strong’ story? Like she was a game character.
"Hmm." She found her words. "I’d try not to disappoint you and myself." It’s crazy that it was her enemy pushing her to keep on fighting when he could very well be caught in it.
She always knew he’s crazy but this had a serious twist. "I hope you don’t expect me to spare you when the time comes?" She asked, seriously.
He finished with his hair and left where he rested, he began walking away. "Spare me the endless chatter, young maiden. You should work on getting strong first. Let’s go to the maid quarters now."
So demeaning. Laurel forced the door opened and ran after him. She was finally leaving the prison.
She looked around the other prison cells. There was no one in it. But there were blood stains, ones that were at least few weeks old. It’s safe to say the Black Claws warriors killed all the prisoners, just in case.
"Should they be a story I should tell the maids if I’m asked why I was spared?" Laurel asked as she walked past the prison hall’s gate. The sun pierced it’s rays into her eyes and she smiled, closing them. She was finally free.
"Tell them you were discovered to be... Sigma’s mate."
Laurel’s smile fell. "You aren’t serious."
"Oh, I am."
She was to clown as the mate of a sixteen year old? Laurel clenched her fist. Wouldn’t it be better to clown as his mage instead?
"I have been discussing it with Sigma and he agreed. There’s no other reason we could think off and this will convince Jade and Cade why I’m trying to protect you."
It was a good plan but still felt weird. "So that’s my new life here? As Sigma’s mate? Goddess help me."
"Yes, goddess help you, if she’s alive." Sorren smirked. "But don’t expect Sigma to play along. He forgets easily."
Sorren walked past some guard who bowed down to him, she followed behind him and the guards bowed at her too.
This must be the maid quarters. She knew instinctively because it looked like a glorified prison. Like her room on a high tower. Except there was more freedom here.
The maids stared at her as she walked in with Prince Sorren. She recognized one of the warriors. "Valky..."
Two maids jumped before Sorren. They were actually warriors under Valkyrie, the best warrior in Green Valleys.
One shot out her claws targeting at Sorren’s neck and the other warrior pulled Laurel away from him.
"Leave the Princess alone!" Valkyrie shouted. Laurel was stunned, while Sorren had an annoyed expression.
