Chapter 31: Mom-Mode

Chapter Thirty-One – Mom-Mode

Back to the lonely days of watching the sun rise and fall.

It was lonely but still had a beauty to it. Laurel stretched, rising from the bed.

A sharp pain went to her head and she groaned. "Ah, Darren. This plan was a little too much. The poison effect is still there a day later."

She looked outside the window, waiting. When will she be transferred to the maid’s quarters? Her brunch hadn’t arrived either. "When I remember that we’d actually meet Frida there, I’m more excited about moving." Elma remarked.

Laurel could feel the wolf’s excitement even if she wasn’t too excited herself. She’d probably prefer if Frida minded her own business and not push her to the edge.

The fact Sorren transferred her to the maid quarters and not outrightly killing her would displease Beta Cade and Jade who would keep their eyes on her.

At the maid quarters, she’d be safe but if they find out the maids don’t like her, they could use her haters against her.

"I guess I have to make friends with some maids. I believe I know some names. If they were still alive." Laurel said.

Lena was omega ranked and omega ranked worked as maids in the palace or an officials quarters. Lena always mentioned every new friend she made to Laurel who never had such experience of making new friends.

"I think Bella, Vista, Sunlight and Sunshine, and Lia...? I’m not very sure of these names." Laurel sighed.

The door to her prison opened and she sat up expectantly. That had taken long enough. "Huh, Dylan? Long time no see." She said disappointedly. He didn’t even have her brunch with him.

"Uh... yeah." He stammered and sat down before her. "I-I will be watching you again. Till Sigma is done with his training....yeah."

Training? That kid doesn’t need anymore training. He’s already built like a mountain. "Okay, but it’s time for my brunch and..."

"Yeah, Sigma said he’d get it on his way here. He’d be done in few hours." Dylan interrupted. It was due to anxiety of being seen as a slacker. "Sorry." He said lowly.

In a few hours? Would she be alive by then? Why couldn’t they keep to their time? In a few hours she should be readying herself for dinner.

She sighed, shoving the food problem aside. What about her moving to the maid quarters? Why were things not being fast enough? Why was her life slow paced?

"Did you know I was to move to the maid’s quarters?"

"Um... I heard. You got poisoned, right? Sorry." Dylan apologized again. "Prince Sorren is the one to arrange that but he’s training Sigma now so I don’t know..."

"Will he be okay?" it was Laurel’s turn to interrupt. "Sorren doesn’t look like he can keep up with Sigma."

Dylan looked confused before understanding what she meant. "Why wouldn’t he? He may not look it but he’s physically strong too."

Laurel agreed. "Yeah, but Sigma is mountain level strong. Is Sorren sure about training him?" Sigma didn’t look like a kid who’d obediently train so that’s another hassle.

"Whatever Sigma is now is due to the training he got from Prince Sorren. He was groomed to be strong so is strong." Dylan said, proudly.

What? Sorren raised him to be that strong? "You sound like Sorren raised Sigma." Laurel raised a brow.

"Practically." Dylan tilted his head. "Sigma was a year old when his parents died. Prince Sorren adopted him even if he was five himself, and not as a brother, but as a son."

Eh?

"But see, the dynamics work well. Our Prince is strong but hates working hard. Sigma likes showing off he’s strong by working too hard. They really fit." Dylan chuckled.

Laurel couldn’t believe Sorren raised a baby he was four years older to. She tried imagining him in mom-mode. He definitely had help, but it was still impressive. "It seems lots of kids became orphan after that raid."

Dylan’s expression changed. "I can’t even remember my parents. I know nothing about them. At least, Sigma could know his father were Lead Warrior but I know nothing."

If it was her pity he wanted, Laurel wasn’t ready to give it. They reciprocated and raided her kingdom and made other pups orphans. So it’s only fair now.

"I really need my food to come now. This isn’t fair but what can I do? I’m just your humble prisoner." She moaned, sliding down her bed.

Her stomach grumbled making her face flush. That was so embarrassing. How much longer would she need to wait? Two hours passed by with Laurel feeling herself slowly passing out. She remembered she didn’t have dinner yesterday due to the drugs that was fed to her.

Did they change their plan to starving her to death instead of having one more mouth to feed at the maids quarters?

The prison door was kicked open. Laurel’s heart flew to her mouth and her eyes popped out in fright.

Sigma bounced into the prison, sweating like he finished running around the kingdom thrice. He wore a body suit though had shorts on.

He exhaled. "Dylan, next time, come and drag me out of practice when it’s past an hour. Please, do anything."

"Prince Sorren will have to let me close first, you know." Dylan said nervously.

Laurel rolled her eyes. "And my brunch? Where is it? Dylan said you’d have it, Sigma?"

"Eh...? Have what...?" Sigma sighed tiredly.

Dylan was about to reply when a lunchbox flew into prison and straight at Laurel’s head. The impact made a loud sound.

Her eye balls rolled and she almost drifted off but forced her head back with sheer willpower alone, because no more strength laid in her bones.

"Ah, sorry." Sorren strolled into the room, hanging a towel on his neck. He was wearing a similar getup to Sigma but had longer shorts on him.

"You shouldn’t send a kid who’s already tired on an errand." He looked down at Laurel.

He did that purposely, didn’t he? Laurel bit her lower lips painfully. Did he do that because she scolded Sigma? His mom-mode was hard to deal with.

"And I thought you were a gentle man." She murmured. But then, he was probably a mother first.

"Come with me." Sorren told her.

"Yeah. We are no longer expected to watch her. She’d be transferred now." Sigma told Dylan.

It was about time. Laurel left the ground with the lunchbox tightly on her chest. She could wait to eat later as long as she was somewhere else.

But as she stood up, her sight diminished and her legs creaked before dropping her back on the ground. So she couldn’t even walk?

"You still need more drugs?" Sorren scoffed. "Women are so fragile."

Sigma nodded to his statement, making Laurel frown. "If I need more drugs then, give it to me."

Sorren said nothing but stare at her. She wondered if she was a little harsh. She got worried when Sigma and Dylan left the prison, leaving only Sorren. Would he hurt her?

She just heard how strong he was. Stronger than Sigma. Her heartbeat quickened. Was he going to show her a side of him that she’d always regret?

She always spoke without thinking, then regretted it later. Why was her life like this?
