Chapter 312: Reachable
Chapter Three Hundred-Twelve – Reachable
The wind brought in a large dried leaf which perched on Stefan’s face. A maid knocked on the door and on opening his eyes and seeing the world dark, Stefan felt convinced another calamity had befallen him.
He rose up from the bed and his sight returned, a sigh left him. Maybe he’s the one creating problems for himself.
The maid served him hot tea and snacks he’d never seen before. Recently, he felt like they’ve been trying their hands on different things and using him as a test subject.
They always asked, ’what do you think, sir?’ with a fake smile whenever they returned to take the empty dishes away.
So he had decided to eat morning meals at Sorren’s place where he’d be sure of no running stomach hours later.
He gestured for the maid to take the snacks away and he noticed her little pout as she did. He gulped down the tea quickly and winced when it burned his skin a little.
"Did Warrior Dylan drop by with any news?" he asked the maid as she left. She paused and shook her head in the negative.
Stefan took off his sleeping robe and tied his hair.
"You can leave, young lady." He said to the maid staring at him. She gasped and ran off with flustered cheeks.
Stefan stared at his reflection in a mirror. Bare bodies made ladies flustered, right? Yet he remembered Laurel having no reaction when she saw him bare.
They were mates so she should’ve had a little reaction or did he just not notice? He always felt something when he meets her, whether he accepted it or not.
Laurel was also another lady comfortable around Sorren and even criticized his beauty on occasions.
Could she be asexual? He shook those thoughts from his head. Maybe she felt so angry with he and Sorren that she could never imagine them being attractive.
He had a quick bath and wore causal clothes. He might end up passing the night at Sorren’s. That one returned that morning from Damancas but he’d go to bother him.
The maids bowed in greeting as the Alpha walked in the halls, their eyes remained on him admiring his appearance in casual clothes.
It felt more attractive to them because the average man within their reach could wear such clothes, so the Alpha felt more reachable at that point.
Except that their average man might not look as good in the clothes, because the clothes made the Alpha’s good looks more pronounced.
Stefan waited outside to see if Dylan would arrive but he didn’t see him on his way. The young man had buried himself in training and work since Sigma left.
Sigma must feel better now but he escaped work by still staying at Sorren’s quarters, eating and sleeping.
Sorren never speak of him so that his older brother wouldn’t take the boy back but Stefan easily heard Sigma’s satisfied snores from his room.
He had to hear that first before he spoke of Laurel as his mate to prevent another ear hearing it before he’s ready for the aftermath.
Since Dylan wasn’t on his way, he continued towards the exit. The warriors barely took notice of him as he blended in the crowd and his scent hid.
He looked down at the clothes and appreciated his instinct that made him wear them.
He arrived at High Mountains and noticed the carriage that took Sorren moving out. He waited to thank the rider but caught Sorren’s scent still inside.
He held unto the carriage as it rode. "Hey! Sorren, did you fall asleep in there?" He looked in and truly found him asleep.
The rider stopped the carriage and Stefan jumped down. He got into the carriage and carried Sorren behind him then thanked the rider, who looked guilty.
"I’m sorry, Prince Sorren paid and showed me the toilet and when I returned, I left immediately. I didn’t check to know who was inside." He said with lowered head.
Stefan clicked his tongue but he couldn’t blame the rider, whether or not the rider lied, it didn’t matter since he found them.
He dismissed the rider after being sure nothing else remained in the carriage. Chris must’ve hurried to his mother on returning so Sorren had to handle his tired self.
He carried his brother on his back and crossed the High Mountains border, the warriors rushed to him.
"Did you find her at the border?" one looked worriedly. "That’s the third incident already."
Stefan knew they were confused but it sounded like there’s something happening. "Tell me what’s going on."
"We can’t ascertain if it’s rogues but wolves attack young girl who go to feed the goats at the river in the forest. Two, now three girls have been affected." The warrior narrated.
Stefan adjusted Sorren on his back, being careful to keep his shawl over his head because of the high sun. "When did this happen? Who are the two girls?"
The warrior turned to another who stood far away. "It happened yesterday morning and evening but I don’t know who the girls are. I’d make a report from that warrior."
Stefan nodded and watched the warrior leave, he turned to the forest. The forest opposite them had served as the base of those witches during the attack.
Further west will be Rolling Stones Pack but there’s no reason for them to attack the people of his pack. Rogues was a possible bet but the girls wouldn’t have survived.
"This should be Sorren’s problem though." He continued towards the quarters. The gate opened and Sigma stood there, before realizing and opening the gate wider.
"Did he pass out? Did get beaten by Damancas? They threw him out of the kingdom?" Sigma kept asking.
With those questions, Stefan knew Sigma just saw Sorren for the first time since he arrived, which meant the rider was right and Sorren stayed back in the carriage.
"Does he look like he suffered?" Stefan asked Sigma.
Sigma lifted the shawl over his face and beheld Sorren’s sleeping beautiful face. He dropped the shawl and cleared his throat. "Not at all."
Stefan shrugged.
