Chapter 303: The King’s Interest
Chapter Three Hundred-Three – The King’s Interest
(High Mountains)
His older brother had paid a visit three times already that day. Sorren felt worn out but couldn’t complain.
He didn’t expect Thales to offer to travel with Princess Laurel and he didn’t expect his brother to let his mate go alone while knowing the King had interest in her.
He returned to the living room and served him tea before plopping down on a couch. "I’d not serve you again."
Stefan placed the cup on his lips. He didn’t need to be served every time he came but he didn’t mind. He’s bored and kept on wondering what his mate could be doing.
"That Zeldris is a healthy werewolf. The King might pick an interest in him and that’d be trouble for Laurel." Sorren started as conversation.
But he noticed no spark of excitement on his older brother’s face. Sorren sighed. If his mate’s absence could equate dullness in him, then shouldn’t he try harder?
Sorren didn’t have interest in women that weren’t his mate, but he knew that if he did, he’d probably bother her till she accepted his presence.
Even if he’s confident that he wouldn’t have such issues.
On the other hand, his older brother focused on work more than building relationships and it had not been helping him with Laurel.
"Try bothering her a lot." He said out of contest.
Surprisingly, his brother replied. "She’d dislike me more."
Sorren realized that his brother probably had her on his mind more than he accepted. He smirked. "You should take example from your King though."
Stefan looked up from the cup of tea in his hands. What brought King Asher into this? The King barely had relationships with females. Everyone knew that.
"King Asher?" he asked just to be sure. Perhaps, his younger brother meant their late father.
Sorren nodded. He frowned when Stefan didn’t seem to understand what he meant. His brother really needed to have a sense of urgency.
"King Asher definitely found Princess Laurel interesting after their meeting at the Lycan Packs Meeting. Don’t you think?"
Stefan shook his head vehemently, he didn’t think so at all. The King’s only concern with werewolves were that they should be killed, wasn’t it?
He noticed the knowing look on Sorren’s face. "Why exactly do you think so?"
He knew he’s probably being forced to open up about something but he didn’t mind playing his brother’s games.
Sorren shrugged, relaxing on the chair he was in. "King Asher only detests werewolves because of the incident with his mother. But Laurel experienced the same."
Sorren knew well that if the King meets another who went through a similar pain like him, he might be nicer to them and if they stay longer, even the King might connect.
Sorren’s bond with Sigma was like that.
Sigma was a baby who lost his mother and felt lost, Sorren had lost his mother and felt lost too so he easily found comfort with the baby who experienced the same.
Also Laurel’s mother’s death happened in similar fashion to Asher’s mother’s death. Sacrificing for their kids.
"I don’t mean that the King will be in love with her." Even Sorren couldn’t imagine it on that King. "But his usual persistent persona might be intense around her."
Sorren would give many credits to Laurel on being a girl who wouldn’t be swept up by looks, as she’s comfortable with him.
However, like the case with Zeno, he didn’t trust her not to swoon when a male acted nice or persistent with her, that’s if she understood it might be a romantic gesture.
The Alpha didn’t really understand the plot his younger brother weaved but what he understood summarized to his mate might be a love interest to the King.
It was horribly hard for Stefan to imagine that, especially as a very attractive lady like Delta Zara didn’t amount to anything to the King.
But if the King found his mate interesting, then that’d be different. Even if it wasn’t in a romantic way, his usual persistent way would be hard to deal with.
"The worst is he wouldn’t care of her opinion." Stefan mumbled. "He’d only do as he liked."
Sorren snapped his fingers. Finally his brother got it, even if he hadn’t started panicking. The King reached for anything he had interest in and by any method.
Sorren only hoped Laurel would return from this journey in one piece as it was impromptu and she didn’t keep her pack in perfect order, especially Rolling Stones.
"When Laurel gets back, I’d invite her for tea to hear all the disturbing things the King must’ve done to her." Sorren left for the kitchen.
Stefan stared at his retreating figure wide-eyed. Why would she tell him? Even why would disturbing things be done to her?
He felt Kai coming to the surface and sighed. The decision to let their mate go was because he planned to send warriors after her, but it failed woefully.
Now he’d have to deal with the aftermath – overthinking.
"Ah." He remembered something and walked towards Sorren. "I’ve been wanting to ask you, Sorren, but do you remember visiting a witch with your mother at Damancas?"
Sorren dropped the cup he held but it dropped in a large bowl. He glanced at his older brother, his eyes darkening slightly.
"My mother?" his hand tightened on the plate he held in his other hand.
Stefan snapped from it and instinctively took a step back. That’s wrong of him.
He never spoke about their mothers after their death and now he suddenly asked while relating her to a witch? Such a thing would set even Sorren off. "S-Sorry, someone spoke about it—"
"Who did?"
Stefan hesitated, then marked the Elder dead in his heart. "The blond Elder that likes disturbing you." He heard the plate in Sorren’s hand crack.
Sorren forced a smile to hide his annoyance. "I don’t know about that though. I barely remember what she looks like. How’d I know what we did together?"
Stefan wished he’d show his anger instead of smiling. Younger brothers could be scary sometimes.
