Chapter 298: In His Room

Chapter Two Hundred-Ninety-Eight – In His Room

Laurel paced about the room, looking out the window occasionally. Things hadn’t turned out as planned last night after Thales appearance.

It wasn’t like it was a total mess, just that.... she looked around her... she didn’t expect to spend the night in the palace.... and with how it looked, the King’s room.

She thought he’d be too stunned to speak or move but the moment she tried leaving, he sped to her and ordered the rest to go alone.

His countenance at that point sent shivers down her officials’ spine and even if Laurel didn’t know how Thales felt at that point, he accepted and left with the rest.

She also had no clue if the spies succeeded yesterday but she knew for sure that if they did Thales would be associated with it because he arrived late.

Nero seemed to know Thales too and Laurel didn’t get the chance to ask Nero about it. Now, she felt stranded in the King’s room with no clothes to change to.

He hadn’t returned to his room since he brought her last night, and she didn’t mind but would’ve appreciated if he arranged the clothes she’d change into.

He was truly bad with guests.

Laurel found the door open and peeked out, there was no one in the hall as far as she could see so she snuck out.

She didn’t take a bath after arriving yesterday, neither did she take a bath before bed. A princess like her shouldn’t be caught with a stench ever!

She reached the next hallway and there was no soul. This will be the King’s quarters but no maid or servant in sight? Was that okay? "How come no one is here!"

"Because they don’t belong here."

Laurel tensed up on hearing the voice behind her, she hadn’t caught the person’s scent till she heard them speak. She turned to see a tall pretty lady.

From one look, she could tell it was Nero’s sister, Nether.

No wonder she didn’t hear her or smell her, the King’s loyalists were known to be good sneaky assassins.

The Princess folded her arms. The lady’s statement, did she mean even she didn’t belong there?

Laurel didn’t doubt it since that’s not her turf but she didn’t think she was out of place, she’s a Princess after all.

But she didn’t bother argue, this Nether might have strong protective instincts for the King and termed every visitor a threat to be wary of.

"Ah, right. Please, can I get clothes to change into?" Laurel studied the lady’s expression. She had been polite so hopefully, the lady will be kinder.

Nether looked at the distance the Princess had covered before she caught her, it was a good one.

If she hadn’t been alert at the last minute, the Princess could’ve escaped. This Princess wasn’t a dumb damsel in distress so Nether decided to monitor carefully.

"Wear anything he has. He kept you in his room for a reason." It sounded weird to Nether when she said it.

She didn’t know the reason either, but the King had shown he didn’t mind sharing his clothes when he left a guest in his room, as he did with Sam.

Laurel wished the lady would rephrase and give a better solution but the lady walked away quickly, much to her dismay. She had no choice but to trudge back to the room.

She looked at the room with more interest and saw the array of swords the King had, they seemed like decorative assets though.

Not most of them could actually work like a sword.

"I understand why he’d be tired of swords." She sighed. Her eyes caught sight of a closet at the right of the room. The King’s clothes would be in there.

She felt hesitant to go but swallowed it in and marched into the closet, hopefully the King wouldn’t catch her and think she’s trying to steal his clothes.

She saw many long shirts and mostly robes that looked so expensive she felt it’d be criminal to even think of trying it on. "I won’t be able to wear anything—"

Her body froze, then it released on sensing it was a new scent. Her eyes went to the dagger that had zapped to a wardrobe. "Who are you little lady?"

She didn’t need to turn to know it’s a girl, the footsteps were light and gave it away. She turned anyway.

There were dark circles underneath the girl’s eyes, and some signs of self harm on her wrists. What did the girl have to go through recently?

The Princess didn’t want it to be her problem, but if she ignored the girl, she could throw her dagger towards her again. Laurel didn’t want to be forced to end a life again.

High Moon Kingdom kept on l proving it was the worst place for her to find peace and avoid murdering.

"I asked who you are, little lady? I am Princess Laurel of Green Valleys—" Laurel paused, when another dagger zapped past her. She grew annoyed.

"I know who the hell you are. All too well actually." The girl said, walking menacingly towards Laurel.

Laurel didn’t see where she got her daggers from, she plucked out the two on the wardrobe. "Don’t try to attack me or you’d not like it. I am the guest of your King."

If she was a loyalist to the King then upholding the King’s image should be her major priority and not whatever sudden problem she had with her.

"No, you’re just a werewolf!" the girl barked. "And you’re all murderers while feigning ignorance and letting innocent lycans pay for your crimes!"

The girl’s body shook violently as she barked, and tears streamed down her eyes uncontrollably.

That wasn’t enough context for Laurel to know why the girl wanted to kill her but she understood that werewolves might’ve hurt the girl badly, and recently.

It was the same story like the King, so Laurel could bet that it was the King who made the girl like this, to have more pawns.
