Chapter 296: Drink
Chapter Two Hundred-Ninety-Six – Drink
Laurel stared at the cup and the cup seemed to be staring back at her. Was she really supposed to drink this?
Wouldn’t it kill her outright? She didn’t have the same body system as a Lycan Alpha King. Did Asher know what he’s doing? If he killed her... Damancas would...
Could it be a test actually? Maybe saying ’no’ wouldn’t be bad, but then she was ordered to and she couldn’t disobey a direct order. So she should just let herself die?
She looked up at the servant girl as she reached for the glass. The girl’s eyes didn’t look distant and even when she took the glass, the girl’s eyes were still the same.
If the girl was actually giving her something that could kill her, she should have a distant expression on her face like someone administering death to an innocent person.
So Laurel guessed either it’s really okay to drink or the girl didn’t know if it’s drugged. The Princess turned to Nero.
Zeldris’s heartbeat increased dramatically when the glass was brought to the Princess but it spiked when he saw Laurel gulp down the glass’s contents.
He left where he sat and gazed at her worriedly, a part of him not wanting it but expecting her to fall unconscious.
Laurel returned the glass to the servant girl’s tray and the girl bowed before leaving. The Princess wiped the corner of her lips with the sleeve of her dress and exhaled.
As the servant girl left the room, the King walked in wearing a plain white robe but it was made with beautiful material that it gave off a sophisticated look.
Bebe hated that she thought he looked good in it, she snapped her head away to avoid looking at him.
"Ah, Laurel. Did you like the drink?" he gently sat on the bed with crossed legs, smiling at her.
He truly didn’t expect her to take the drink and expected more drama from her, as always.
It made him wonder if she took the drink to put him in trouble if something happened to her, but he didn’t also think she’d bet on her life like that.
Laurel exhaled again. "I’d prefer if you don’t use me as your specimens, or I’d react wrongly next time."
Asher chuckled. So she knew nothing would happen to her? Did she trust him that much? "You and your threats. It was 90% safe though. I wouldn’t kill you when you recently arrived."
The Princess squinted her eyes at the creature, wanting to find the courage to slam his head on a wall.
He wouldn’t kill her since she only arrived? Did that mean he’d make a move to kill her later? Maybe by tomorrow?
And that drink had been only 90% safe? That was still not safe! Did he know how much she could endure?
She had already deduced that the drink was safe after checking the gains that could come out from the King killing her now. There was none.
A dead person couldn’t be used for experiments either.
Also, his loyalist Nero, seemed calm amidst all these. Laurel remembered how panicked he had been last time when the King attempted killing her.
If he didn’t panic now, it must mean her life wasn’t in danger. Those were the sources of her rough guess that prompted her to take the drink.
It’s not like she could easily reject a direct order either.
She stopped her train of thoughts. "You sent a letter to me that I needed to react to quickly. Was there a reason for the urgency?"
Asher leaned on the head of the bed. "You know there’s none." He looked at the people with her. "You didn’t need to bring so many bodyguards... oh, and that one."
Bebe growled lowly. Was she the ’that one’?
Asher smirked, then closed his eyes. "I called you here because I was bored and annoyed and there’s no one to take it on. Slime left me."
Those words confused Zeldris as the King made it sound like it was a relationship. These lycans always made him panic in the most natural situations.
Even if he was a good-looking King, it seemed to Zeldris that he didn’t know how to channel his enticing aura or intimidating aura rightly and they ended up mixing.
Watching the King in a loose white robe might cause confusion in some ladies but definitely not in those also cautious about him.
Zeldris felt better about that because having all the strength, position, wealth and good looks would be unfair.
Also, he didn’t want the Princess getting confused because of an enemy King but he trusted her to resist.
"So start the introduction." Asher waved his hand midair. "Anything not to bore me. And where’s the last guest Nero spoke of?"
Laurel turned to the Beta who nodded as response, but she had no clue what it should mean. Then she felt her mind link being tugged on and released it for Zeldris.
"Thales left to alert the spies to start work now. The Nether can be easily handled by the spies since the King and Nero is here." Zeldris informed.
The Princess instantly had cold feet. So right now, the plan had started already? She had to keep the King’s attention for longer, maybe even make him sleep off.
"He’d be here soon. King Asher, I didn’t know I came here because you’re bored—"
"Now you know." Asher interrupted, closing his eyes.
Zeldris didn’t see why Sorren should be compared to the pain on the butt of a King. His cousin hadn’t attempted killing someone, at least he hadn’t heard he had.
The Knight stood up so the Princess wouldn’t be in a difficult situation. "I’m Zeldris Titus. Knight to the Princess." He made a quick bow.
There was silence for a while. Zeldris had sat down back awkwardly, while covering his face in embarrassment.
Then Asher asked, with a pea sized enthusiasm. "How expendable is this one, Laurel?"
Zeldris froze when he heard the question. By expendable did the King mean if the Princess wouldn’t mind losing him? His fists clenched.
