Chapter 293: Arrive By Night
Chapter Two Hundred-Ninety-Three – Arrive By Night
Thales landed in the midst of smoke, smoke he knew were caused by burning of trees. He stared at the charred trees up ahead.
"Poor things." They didn’t even do anything wrong.
The smell of beer was also in the air. The witch speculated that it was used to increase the flame.
"Since you guys like blowing things up," balls of fire formed around Thales, "how about I join you?"
The balls of fire shot towards the smoke, blasting past it and thundering on the ground. There were grunts and screams, the ball of fire returned to Thales.
He strolled into the smoke to see the effect caused. He found only two burnt bodies, the rest must’ve escaped because he still caught their scent vividly.
They weren’t rogues but they’re definitely troublemakers so it sounded like the same to him.
"A witch, huh?"
Thales looked up and saw a young lady atop a tree, she was wearing a hanfu so Thales didn’t think she was from these parts. "Take your boys away and I won’t hurt you."
She cackled, jumping down the tree. "You look like a gentleman who wouldn’t hurt a woman so—"
A streak of flame ran past her cheeks and bruised her, she jumped back, panic flashing in her eyes.
Thales smirked. "Maybe in your culture, but not here. A bad woman takes the same punishment as a bad man."
She gritted her teeth and threw down gas balls that covered the area with smoke. Thales lost her scent at that point. The place was quiet and he wondered if she left.
He heard the carriages getting closer and sent an upwind that blew the smoke away. When it was all cleared, he only saw items like matches, and fuel. They had gone.
"Not even much of a threat." Thales said with a disappointed tone. He wondered why people from the far west where close to Damancas and engaging in thievery.
"Hey! Are you done?" Zeldris called to Thales when he sighted him staring at some burned trees.
He saw the witch disappear then he felt him in the carriage. Zeldris frowned, turning to him. "Learn to walk. That teleporting can be creepy sometimes."
Thales only shrugged.
They successfully passed the areas and packs surrounding Damancas and moved in the valleys that connected to the mountain High Moon was at.
Laurel turned back to where they passed, she could no longer see the tall walls of Damancas. It’s hard to believe that her wish to visit Damancas had happened.
Except she was there as a guest and couldn’t look around, she was tensed and couldn’t be herself.
Perhaps when everything’s done, she could visit again with peace of mind. She turned to the carriage behind them. It’d be so quiet with the Beta in there. Poor Bebe.
Zeldris turned to her. "Oh, I wanted to ask, do we stop somewhere and reach High Moon by tomorrow or—"
"No, we’d reach today. The spies will be waiting for us and this night gives the perfect covering to sneak into the lab." Laurel explained.
Zeldris nodded but paused. "Won’t it be suspicious?"
"On the contrary," Thales noted. "Since we only came today, and the attack happened that same night, the King wouldn’t think we were involved."
Laurel nodded to that. He’d only assume that the intruders took advantage of the time he spent with his guests.
After all, a plan like that needed enough time to come up with.
The carriage passed the valleys and reached the mountains few hours later. Laurel noticed that the second carriage had slowed down.
Thales noticed too and jumped down. "I’d come in with them. Don’t worry. You two can go in and see the King. Also, I’d find a good inn that we can stay in."
Laurel saw the reasoning. It’d be better to live outside the King’s palace so they can move easily. Being under that king’s scrutiny would be suffocating.
The first carriage rode into High Moon Kingdom. Zeldris noticed how none of the guards at the border had stopped the carriage, especially as werewolves were in it.
Truthfully, Zeldris felt terrified to be in a Lycan Kingdom.
The same fearsome lycans that destroyed his companions three years ago, but he acted strong.
Laurel rubbed his head and Zeldris glanced at her.
"Don’t sweat it. I had been so tensed about being in a lycan kingdom too but it wasn’t bad at all. Just stay close to me, okay?" She smiled.
Zeldris instinctively moved closer to her. "I-I’m the one that should protect you though, not you to me."
The carriage slowed down to a halt, two lycan warriors looked in. Laurel sat forward, and stretched the envelope the King’s letter came with.
The envelope had the King’s seal which was enough prove that he invited them. The warriors had terrified expressions and they literally ran away from the carriage.
Their eyeballs shook as they stared at Laurel. A beautiful lady whose soft features shone under the night’s moon. They glanced at each other in disbelief.
Laurel retrieved the envelope while giving them questioning looks. Was it so surprising that their lycan King invited a werewolf to their pack?
One of the warriors poked the other. "Do you think it’s what I’m thinking? So? So? Is it what I’m thinking?"
A sly smile appeared on the lips of the warrior that got poked. At that point, he looked like an evil fiend. "Finally! Finally! It must be it! It must be!"
Laurel was lost but all she wanted more than anything was for the carriage to be allowed to pass this stupidity.
Though a part of her felt comfortable that they didn’t seem furious that she was a werewolf in their pack.
"Our Crown Prince has truly become a King!" the warriors yelled in unison.
Laurel felt embarrassed for some reasons. Hasn’t he always been a King? Then she remembered it only happened recently, but was it what they meant?
Other warriors came closer on hearing the yell, they had strange expressions on seeing the young lady in the carriage. Their jaw dropped on seeing the King’s seal.
"The King never invites anyone with his seal." One of the warriors explained to Laurel. "He always uses the Lead Warrior or any other officials. Are you a special guest?"
With the way they asked, Zeldris understood what they meant. The Princess was right, Lycans were perverts.
