Chapter 292: Survive
Chapter Two Hundred-Ninety-Two – Survive
Zeldris turned to see a lady cladded with white armor, sending dangerous beams of hate from her blue eyes.
She had an enthralling golden brown hair and a gorgeous face, holding a bundle of paper under her arm. Zeldris turned back to Thales, who looked like he’d piss his pants.
Laurel noticed the tension but ignored it and walked down the stairs. She barely knew Thales so there’s no need to butt into his personal problems.
The lady began climbing the steps. Thales took a step back but paused, exhaling. Zeldris nudged him. "An ex?"
A failed relationship was the only suitable reason a man and woman would stare so disturbingly at each other.
But Thales shook his head and rubbed his neck. "I left her twin to die in a mission and stayed at High Moon since."
It wasn’t enough detail for Zeldris to go on but he understood one thing – Thales was at fault.
He turned and saw that the Princess, and the Beta and his maidens had long began descending the stairs.
He patted the witch’s shoulder and muttered. "Survive."
That seemed to spark something in Thales even if Zeldris had said it as a joke. The witch clenched his fists remembering what made him leave the young man.
He was trying to survive. He nodded at the Knight.
Zeldris ran down the stairs so he could have a good view in the carriage when the ’war’ started. Laurel and the rest collected the map from Arcadia and sat in comfortably.
The moment Zeldris sat inside, the carriage rider began driving off. Zeldris turned to Thales, wondering if he wasn’t coming anymore but the witch wasn’t standing there.
The gorgeous General was standing alone and confused almost at the top of the stairs. Zeldris saw her clench her fists. Then he heard the Princess chuckling.
Zeldris’s heart flew to his mouth when he saw Thales seated by him. The carriage rider moved even faster.
"You ran away? Teleported?" Zeldris asked with an impressed smile. Thales held his chest. "I survived."
Laurel shook her head. She didn’t know what’s going on but she thought that was a cowardly use of magic. The carriage moved quickly away from the Palace.
Inside, Zeldris turned to the carriage holding Bebe and the Beta, he glanced at Thales. "The Queen didn’t react to our Beta. Did you notice?"
Laurel looked up from the map she studied, she didn’t notice any of those. In fact, she only concentrated on being alert to when the King and Queen called her name.
The Damancas’ royalties had been different from what she thought but they still emitted the feared aura of rulers.
Thales hummed, then looked outside the window, he was seated at the other end of the carriage. "I didn’t want to ask before, but that boy is an actual child, right?"
The question sounded hilarious but Laurel didn’t laugh. Zeldris turned to her to answer because she’s the only one who knew the young Beta the longest.
Laurel nodded. "He has an older sister that isn’t interested in being a Beta, they were the bane of my existence before we were attacked. Spoilt but the boy is good."
Laurel didn’t know if she should call him ’good’ since he only seemed not to be troubling her, not that he’s being nice to her. "Why do you ask, Thales?"
Thales hummed again. "That’s not what I meant though but I think the boy might have reminded the Queen of her wayward sons, having women with them always."
There was silence in the carriage.
Thales kept on looking out the window and enjoying the sights he had missed for the three years he’d been away.
Zeldris tried to control his laughter. He had thought that that habit would surely put the young Beta in a bad light especially as he started young.
Even if Zeldris knew, but wasn’t sure, that nothing wayward happened between the young Beta and the maidens, taking them about looked odd to anyone.
From how unbothered the young Beta was, Zeldris understood that he didn’t care about that fact.
Meanwhile, Laurel calmly looked back at the map she studied. Wayward sons? That’s Prince Kiad and the brothers he had. She didn’t think they were that bad.
She remembered that such a man had tried to seduce her before, did she look like such a lady? She remembered how he insisted to walk her up the stairs.
She should have put her fingers in his eyes if she knew the tales surrounding him. "Look at this."
She showed the map to Thales and Zeldris. There was an unmarked area at the lab that the witch that teleported to the King’s lab couldn’t access.
She figured out the store but Laurel felt marking all places would be better because the King didn’t seem stupid enough to keep all his finished drugs in one room.
Those in the storage room might be the newly finished ones at the storage room, or the less important ones or the ones he needed to still work on to make them better.
However, Laurel understood that the witch must’ve been scared while marking the places because any wrong move and she gets captured, she’d die horribly.
"We can’t go in there though." Zeldris said, referring to the unmarked place. "It’s probably nothing important."
He didn’t think so but he didn’t want the Princess having any funny idea of them sneaking in there to check.
Thales gave a similar response that it might be nothing. His reason being that the witch must’ve sensed inside of the room first, if it’s empty then she marked it so.
Laurel still had her reservations but let it slide.
The carriages left Damancas and continued towards the mountains. Laurel relaxed on the pillow behind her and tried to sleep.
Even if rogues or thieves came, she knew she’s with those that’d protect her with having to do anything, unlike before when she was wary of those she’s with.
"Your highness, I’d go on ahead. There’s an intrusion." Thales levitated from his seat and left the window.
Laurel made a small smile. It had begun already.
