Chapter 29: Game
Chapter Twenty-Nine – Game
The maids quarters were filled with maidens from Green Valleys. There were mostly young girls that Stefan had left to live in exchange for slavery.
Sorren gazed down at the swarm of maidens. The rooms were definitely congested with so many serving here. Should he have a competition to weed them out?
Perhaps the dumbest ones should die and the smart ones stay? He smiled, feeling quite excited about it. "It’s been a while I played a game with people."
"Sorren?"
His smile fell. "Cade?"
Cade stopped before him with folded arms. "Let’s talk."
"We are already talking. Goodness, my mood changed when you called my name." Sorren yawned. "So what?"
Cade frowned. He had notice him going around asking about what the guard and what he had been up to. The other guards said they hadn’t notice him being suspicious.
Since Sorren was out here, Cade assumed the prisoner was okay. But she shouldn’t be, because if she was really poisoned, she wouldn’t survive it due to her weak body.
However, Cade had heard of poisons that didn’t kill. There was no place that sold such poison around where they stayed but when his Alpha had sent him to spy at Damancas, he learnt of the poison.
He wasn’t blaming the Damancas fellow as there was no reason for him to poison the princess he once wanted in exchange for land.
But the poison came from Damancas so if they tried to investigate, with that in mind, they’d fish out the culprit.
Those were what he’d have liked to explain but Sorren’s facial expression told Cade that he was uninterested in anything he’d want to say.
"Did you make any breakthrough in knowing why the prisoner was poisoned?" Cade asked first.
"Oh, wasn’t that by you?" Sorren didn’t even look at him.
Cade frowned. "You know it’s not. I wouldn’t need such a backhanded method to kill someone..."
"Because killing someone is as easy as the flick of a finger." Sorren sighed. "You are the reason Lycans have a bad name of being overly violent."
Cade exhaled, feeling livid. They were only few people who could make him lose his cool and the bastard in front of him just happened to be one of them. "You don’t care to know what actually happened?"
"My guess is.... The prisoner attacked the guard once. He hates her, so poisoned her. He tried to run away but was caught by you, unfortunately. Am I right?"
That would make sense too. Especially as the prison guard was trying to get his identification sword. It was to clear his exit using the main gate.
Cade nodded. "But your explanation still points me as someone who killed the guard for no reason. If he was trying to escape..."
"The poison wasn’t going to kill the princess." Sorren interrupted, he noticed Cade had a shocked expression. "What? There are poisons that don’t immediately kill."
"No, I’m surprised you address her as princess. Is this just you being courteous or..."
"Or what?" Sorren asked back.
"Forget it." Cade sighed. "Since you figured it out, then fine. Only it was more like the guard attacked me so I replied in self-defense."
It made Sorren chuckle. A guard would attack Cade while knowing the famous rumors of his brutality?
"Yes, the hunter ranked guard attacked a Beta who fought bravely until the guard’s death. Don’t worry, Alpha doesn’t care. He’s not from our pack anyway." Sorren said.
That wasn’t his point. "But I didn’t kill him." Cade insisted.
Sorren looked like he agreed. "Well, the guard wouldn’t attack you just to die. I guess only the guard knows why he attacked you and why he’s dead, right?"
He was impossible. "You know, think what you want. I’m tired of arguing with you like we are an old married couple." Cade walked off, leaving him at the window.
"Yes, yes, I’m tired too." Sorren looked back at the maid quarters. He had to reduce their size before Laurel gets in.
He jumped down from the window. The maids noticed the figure descending and scampered away, giving him space.
"Ah, brother. You don’t mind losing a few maids, right?" he immediately mind linked Stefan. "The captives are many and I need manure for my garden."
Stefan hesitated before replying. "Don’t reduce them to half. One-third is okay." Stefan blocked the link afterwards.
A smile came to Sorren’s face as he gazed at the ladies trembling before him. "To make this place conducive yet competitive for the princess... lower ranked should go."
The maids looked confused, none of them understanding what he was saying. As he moved closer, they backed off.
Sorren frowned. Would he need to chase them to be able to turn them to fine manure? That’d be a hassle.
"Okay." He had an idea. "I’m here to kill off the lower ranked here. If you are one signify by raising your hands."
The girls gasped, some rushing back, hiding by a pillar. The rest that didn’t move were not lower ranked but were very confused by the weird request.
Still, Sorren noticed two maids staring at him, in a daze. He was aware he was good-looking but being admired by cattle he’s about to kill was new. A new form of stupidity.
The girls who stared weren’t lower ranks either.
"Let’s make it easy then." He sighed. His claws shot out, from both hands, and he sped to his admirers.
Their eyes shook before life slowly left them. He took his hands out of their stomach and frowned at the blood stained from his fingers to his wrist.
Their corpses fell but he reached for one of them and held unto it. "It shouldn’t be so bad to die by my hands, right?"
"Ahhhh!!" a maid screamed, and that started the terrified chain of screams in the quarters. Many low ranked ran to the door but found it locked.
Even ranks that weren’t low shivered because the two corpses belonged to girls that weren’t omegas, and Sorren’s aura was making it hard to think.
It was the first time the maids felt frightened to death by him. His aura was usually cold but calm.
Sorren wiped his bloody hands with the cloth of the corpse then threw it to the ground. "Omegas and hunters werewolf ranks are the majority of this crowd."
Those ranks were below Laurel and wouldn’t be useful to her, or the pack actually.
If the pack was to be filled with Lycans later, then a lowest ranked Lycan would have the strength of a lead hunter or hunter werewolf.
Lycans didn’t have ranks either. Just weak Lycan and strong Lycan.
"Okay!" he raised his voice for the panicking girls to hear. "If you are an omega or hunter who doesn’t want to be killed by me, kill someone then move behind me."
The screams slowly died down. The girls turned to him in horror. Was it that hard to understand?
He continued. "If you aren’t of any of those ranks I listed, just move behind me. I’d count to twenty. Okay?"
There was a chilling silence.
