Chapter 284: Win Them Over

Chapter Two Hundred-Eighty-Four – Win Them Over

Stefan had a blank expression on Zeldris, and wondered what the young man tried to pull by holding the Princess.

The Princess didn’t even try to refuse the unnecessary physical interaction. Why didn’t it bother her?!

After his overreaction with Sigma when he found her atop Laurel’s body, that overreaction turned to anger that turned to other things that caused disasters.

Since then, he had been careful of overreacting, or freely showing his reaction. He cleared his throat and dragged his eyes from Zeldris.

The young man always gave him a reason to dislike him each time they met. "So Laurel, I assume that it’s for the sake of Bebe that the other witch came to you."

Laurel held her dress tightly then released it and stared at her hand. Did she just get annoyed that he didn’t react? She shouldn’t expect him too.

She exhaled and nodded. "It is." It didn’t have to be true.

The Alpha nodded and looked at Zeldris again. Wasn’t it time to let go of the Princess! "Do you follow her everywhere though?"

From the blond Elder’s description, the young man that would’ve followed the Princess to see Prince Sorren will be one of her officials.

Since he served as her Knight, Stefan expected him to know who followed or answer if he followed her.

"I follow her when she wants me to." Zeldris took his hand off Laurel’s and placed it on his chest. "It’s on her order."

Stefan decided to be more direct. A small exhale left him when Zeldris kept his hand to himself.

"Did you speak to the Elder of my pack about anything?" he studied the young man’s expression.

Laurel quickly understood where he was going. That blond Elder must’ve reported it since Zeldris had spoken about Sorren’s mother visiting a witch.

Sorren being with a witch at the hour would surely make the Elder worry and bring up what a strange person told him. But Laurel didn’t want Zeldris to have to explain.

Explaining his reason being connected to Sorren by being his cousin maternally will move into Sorren having a witch’s blood and all other disasters.

So she’d have to divert the question all together. In a split second after Stefan asked, Laurel thought of all these.

"I don’t think speaking with the Elder of High Moon Kingdom is bad, Alpha. As you know, my Elders aren’t capable yet so I should seek advice."

Stefan tilted his head. Why did she sound like she’s the one who spoke with the Elder and not her official? He looked away from Zeldris. "Nothing is wrong with that—"

"Then why did the case get reported? Every single thing I do gets reported to you, is that the level of trust your officials have in me?" she folded her arms.

Zeldris felt like running away seconds ago when he was asked, he didn’t want to say he’s a witch’s child as only the Moon Goddess knew what’d be done to him.

But now, he felt like laughing at how the Princess turned the table right from under the Alpha’s feet.

Stefan sighed. It seemed the Elder had only projected his dislike of the Princess again. He also noticed that General Conrad didn’t think fondly of her either.

But he had listened in on their conversation to hear if he’d drop threats or reveal a sardonic plan to ruin her life.

On the contrary, he only emphasized his mistrust for her and warned her against bringing in witches. Then he got scolded and threatened and annoyed.

Laurel always turned the tables around, and he didn’t even know if she was diverting his question now.

But he concluded, whatever they said about Sorren wasn’t important if Sorren didn’t bother tell him.

"Laurel, I can’t change my official’s feelings towards you after what happened. You have to win them over—"

"What happened?" Laurel inched close to him. "My father destroyed your Kingdom and you destroyed ours. Even."

Stefan didn’t want to begin arguing on that again. Compared to what her father did, attempting to wipe everything living in his life, he had been merciful.

"And win them over?" Laurel flung her hair back. "It should be the opposite way. They’re in my pack ordering me about, they should be careful."

She stretched the letter she got from the Lycan King.

Stefan stared at it, and then at her. "My officials should be careful, you say, Laurel?"

Zeldris noticed his change of tone. Did he feel threatened by that? He knew the princess didn’t mean it but he didn’t expect the Alpha to buy it.

"Yes." Laurel agreed to Zeldris surprise, there was a smirk on her face so Zeldris hoped it mean she was joking. "Your officials should be careful with me."

The Knight rubbed his forehead, trying to keep his panicking nerves in. The Princess really dropped threats right in front of the Alpha!

Stefan exhaled, taking the letter from her hand. His annoyance faded when his hand brushed her soft palm, he instinctively held unto it.

Zeldris panicked, assuming that the Alpha got angry over the threat. "A-Alpha, you... you shouldn’t hurt the Princess.. she’s not... she wouldn’t..."

Laurel rolled her eyes and sat on the table, staying closer. "Read the letter but know that I plan to go. I have my own reasons and I’d go with my own officials."

Zeldris froze. Thankfully the Alpha didn’t do anything, and the Princess didn’t seem bothered by the grab, but could the Alpha let go of her hand already?!

He frowned slightly when the Alpha still held unto it while reading the letter. That must mean something else!

The Knight looked at the Princess who only had a blank expression, that’s normal with her as she didn’t care for his advances.

His frown deepened. The Alpha should let go already!

"You can’t go." Stefan released Laurel’s hand to fold the paper but he regretted as her Knight pulled her away immediately.

The Alpha’s body ran cold and he slowly tossed the letter away. "You can’t go, Laurel." He repeated with a tone change. "I’d write to him again."

The Princess said nothing, even if inside of her were loud because of Elma’s squeals on being held by their mate.

Laurel was glad that she had perfected the blank expression on her face that could hide any emotion.

She regain her composure and shook her head. "I plan to go, Alpha. The only thing you can write to him is my acceptance of his invitation as one of his Alpha’s."

Stefan frowned, raising his voice a bit. "You can’t—"

"I will." Laurel folded her arms, glaring at him.
