Chapter 279: His Visitor
Chapter Two Hundred-Eighty – His Visitor
(High Mountains)
Sorren searched the room for the nth time, before snapping his head to Thales. He didn’t find it even after checking at the spots that Thales mentioned.
"I’d so break you if that jewelry was actually teleported to another realm." He glared at Thane but the witch only shrugged.
Sorren checked under the bed, looking distressed. Thales enjoyed his distress, and his hand tightened on the jewelry that Sorren searched for.
He turned to the window and breathed in the fresh air, a pure air aided by the presence of the plants outside.
His presence at High Mountains was totally uncalled for, if not that the lycan Prince had moved from Green Valleys, which was his central destination.
He had made acquaintance with Sorren during the Lycan Packs Meeting when Lady Zara had asked for information concerning some plants that Sorren asked for.
Thales knew much on plants due to his duty as the Head Servant at Lady Zara’s quarters but the Prince seemed to assume that he shared the same obsession with plants.
Thales went along with it, the Prince was an interesting person with a strange flow within his body, a flow he was unaware of. It was rare to see lycans having that flow.
"Have you seen it yet---" Thales quickly jumped back, an arrow lodged on the wall where he left
He glared at Sorren, who held the arrow launcher, but Thales noticed the Prince’s eyes on his hand.
Did he already notice that he had the jewelry all along? So was he trying to kill him? Thales found this funny.
The Prince either trusted him to dodge that or didn’t value him too much. Either way didn’t bother Thales. He threw the jewelry to Sorren.
The Prince caught it with a huff and replaced it in its box. "So why did you come here last night? Did you finish with Laurel?"
Thales paused, wondering how he should answer that.
From eavesdropping on the conversation between Lady Zara and the Prince at High Moon Kingdom, he deduced that the Prince asked complex questions in a simple way.
How he answered the question will give more information than his actual answer. "I didn’t expect the Princess to host me when it’s impromptu. I only greeted her."
His answer was relatively true since he didn’t speak of his motive of meeting the Princess. He added. "She was wary of me and I wondered why before she spoke of a witch—"
"Do you know a witch name Ella?" Sorren interrupted, falling on his bed. He realized Thales hesitated and frowned. He did? "Do you know where she is now?"
The question had drifted to where he didn’t like. Thales sighed. "Yes, I know Ella but I have no idea where she is because we haven’t met in a long time."
Sorren felt something was wrong with that answer but he didn’t argue further since he didn’t expect Thales to know Ella.
"Well, I’ve been wanting to ask if Lady Zara knew that you were a witch while you were at—"
"Lady Zara knew but since I didn’t harm anyone, she let me live in peace." Thales sat down on a couch in his room. "My magic helped her a bit too."
Sorren narrowed his eyes at him, wondering what the last part meant. He felt Thales wanted him to ask so he didn’t ask, denying him of the pleasure.
The only reason he accepted his invitation to be hosted at his pack was the discovery of him being a witch.
When Sorren had met him at Lady Zara’s quarters, he was a quiet man who didn’t hide his hate for the Lycan Prince turned Lycan King.
He heard Thales curse the heavens for letting Prince Asher live to be a King. Sorren didn’t know why, but he found such character interesting.
Coupled with his knowledge on plants, Sorren deemed Thales someone that could be worthwhile talking to.
Yet calling him a friend was a cover to make his older brother accept the witch into High Mountains and be friendly when they meet.
If Thales could be a normal person with magic abilities, then maybe not all witches were killing machines. This one lived in a lycan kingdom, after all.
"So to the big question," Sorren adjusted his position. "what exactly brought you here? I’m quite aware you’re just using my place as a roof over your head."
Thales placed a hand on his chest, wearing a smile. "Don’t you think I came to visit you? That’s mean."
"I’m not that deluded." Sorren sighed. "Since you visited Princess Laurel first then I guess she’s the reason, right?"
Thales smile fell. Despite his earlier response, the Prince still understood he came for the Princess? He was really introspective.
"I enjoy serving under beautiful young Mistresses." He replied. "And the Princess is an interesting one."
Sorren looked outside his window. Maybe Thales couldn’t sense it, but he could feel his older brother outside listening in on them.
Sorren guessed his brother probably waited to listen in when the conversation drifted to his mate.
Sorren felt like he was setting Thales up but if his intentions were pure then they’d be no problem.
"Interesting? I understand that but I feel you mean something else." Sorren went on. "You don’t know anything about her. It’s your first time meeting her."
Thales looked up at the ceiling, then hummed. "It’s not the first time but up close, yes. Have you see her wolf?"
Sorren slowly nodded. Did the girl’s wolf mean anything in particular? Something related to magic? "It’s different."
"Yes and it’s like..." Thales trailed off, then chuckled. "I haven’t discussed this with her yet. I don’t think I should tell anyone else."
But the truth was, he just noticed a new presence in the room with them, and a powerful one.
It’s probably Sorren’s older brother who Lady Zara was crazy about. The thought made Thales’ mood sour.
Still he tried not to show it to Sorren since it wasn’t his brother’s fault that Lady Zara liked him.
He couldn’t place why the Alpha eavesdropped but he desisted from saying any other thing that could make the Princess seem mysterious to these Lycans.
