Chapter 275: Scolded
Chapter Two Hundred-Seventy-Five – Scolded
Laurel caught the scent of the young Beta. He really acted swiftly if he already gathered a force ready to attack the palace for her sake.
"The warrior who acted rudely to you,.."
Laurel turned and saw the Beta’s indifferent expression, not like she expected anything else to be on his face.
"... do you want him burnt or mutilated, deformed or dead?" Beta Ferdinand folded his arms.
Laurel smiled, appreciating the energy but the Alpha already said he’d handle it so she couldn’t do much.
"Half baked but alive. I dropped a lot of threats so any more will be traced to me. Their Alpha is already aware."
Zeldris’s jaw fell. The Princess dropped threats close enough for the Alpha to hear her? She really feared nothing. It was amazing that the Alpha did nothing.
The Beta looked unsatisfied but nodded, he snapped his fingers and his servants marched out of the hall. "He didn’t call you for anything serious, hmm?"
Laurel shrugged. Only about the witch and Sorren’s magic user friend. The other discussion they had was for her ears only, till she’s ready to let them know.
She could already guess their decision, probably force her to reject him which she wouldn’t be able to do.
"Oh, and General Conrad. Tell our warriors to be careful about him and to keep our visitors and issues away from the Black Claws warriors." She informed.
She knew it’d happen, but didn’t think it’d be so soon, when Green Valleys Warriors and Black Claws Warriors will have tension between them.
And Black Claws warriors also consisted of the Warriors from High Mountains that still treated Green Valleys as an enemy. "Let Lead Warrior Valkyrie be aware of this."
Zeldris nodded and ran out but his arm was pulled back by Beta Ferdinand. Zeldris noticed that the young Beta didn’t need to move to halt him who ran out.
Was it balance or strength that made him so unshakable? He met his intense gaze. "Yes, Beta?"
"Stay by the Princess’ side. You’re her knight, not an errand boy so stop slacking in your duties." Beta Ferdinand scolded, before releasing him.
Laurel felt that scold had been indirectly sent to her since she was the one who sent Zeldris on the errand but she accepted it.
Zeldris nodded and watched the young Beta walk out with his hands behind him. Even if he was a child, Zeldris had already conditioned himself to respect him for his rank.
Also, the child wasn’t spoilt and despite him being a doted son, he seemed reliable and resourceful. Zeldris didn’t think he’d been that amazing at the Beta’s age.
"I’d stay by your side from now on." He intertwined his arm with the Princess’. "Put up with me."
Laurel nodded with lidded eyes. The ’put up with me’ part was really important since staying by her side will be such a hassle.
She shoved his hand away and marched towards her room to drop the twins that were sleepy and still on her body. She noticed Zeldris following her.
"Even to my room?" she raised a brow.
He chuckled and increased his steps. "Anyway, what did the Alpha want to speak about that sounded so intense?"
Thinking about it, Laurel didn’t see how their discussion on her witch visitor and Sorren’s witch friend should generate such a reaction from the Warrior that came.
And that pointed more to General Conrad being the instigator of such a reaction. He had reported to the Alpha and made the Warrior threaten her.
He might have no trust in her because of her father but his actions against her were totally uncalled for since no damage had been done.
"I’d have gone to see him but things might get ugly." She mumbled. Zeldris leaned close to her and she frowned. She hadn’t given him an answer.
"General Conrad told him about Alice, also Sorren had a friend coming that uses magic. That’s all about it." She quickened her steps and entered her room.
She had noticed a figure pass her before she closed the door and she turned to Zeldis, seated on the bed with crossed legs. "You don’t know personal space do you?"
Zeldris smiled. "In my defense, I never had it."
Laurel shook her head. It wasn’t her fault if his mother was clingy and being in an entourage didn’t scream personal space either.
She dropped the twins on the bed and pushed Zeldris down to arrange it. "You can sleep outside the door."
A couch in her room moved and she closed her eyes. "You are definitely not staying in my room with me, Zeldris." She exhaled.
The Beta shouldn’t have scolded him. He usually had a sudden surge of energy after being scolded, probably because he liked it.
Laurel didn’t want her first night with a man in her room to be with him either, not to add he could be creepy.
"If it’s witches that I’m guarding you from, then shouldn’t I be as close as I can? They can teleport, you know."
Laurel glanced at him and dragged her eyes back to Marino as she changed his clothes to something warm.
"Don’t scare me, and you’re still staying outside the door or just sleep in your own room." She fell on the bed when the twins were warmly tucked in.
She must’ve worried their little heads when she left with a scary warrior and stayed there for long, she’d have to make it up to them later.
"You feel they’re your kids, right?" Zeldis asked on seeing the smile on her face while looking at them. It reminded him of his mother.
The Princess folded her arms, proudly. "Aren’t they?"
Zeldris fell on the couch, keeping his hands at the back of his head. "The man you’d end up with will have to win them over, right? It’d be tough for him."
Laurel scoffed, but said nothing.
She remembered that Marino and Stefan had a good relationship but shook the thought out immediately.
It didn’t matter what relationship they had. That Alpha probably used the boy’s presence to ward off loneliness.
She turned to Zeldris relaxing. "Hey, leave the room."
"Come on, just sleep. You’d forget I’m here."
He heard the unsheathing of a sword and opened his eyes in horror. The Princess really had a sword.
"I promise the pain wouldn’t be one you’d enjoy." She waved the sword at him. The Knight gulped down nothing and slowly made his way to the door.
