Chapter 274: Play

Chapter Two Hundred-Seventy-Four – Play

The guards that stayed outside, waiting for the Alpha to call them in, noticed Lady Cara walk towards the Princess.

They snuck close to hear them while siding the Princess if anything should happen because Warrior Dylan had already spread ’Lady Cara Hate’ to most of the Warriors.

Also, the Princess only engaged when offended so steering clear from her worked, but Lady Cara always wanted attention and would put anyone in trouble to get it.

She had her doting older brother and the Lead Warrior who respected her because of her brother to lean on.

So when the guards heard the Lady call the Princess and then suddenly called her a golden digger, they were sure that the Lady’s madness had led to her doom.

Laurel took her hands out of her hair and guided it down her side, with a good amount of self-control. These were her captors and their bullying was bound to come.

However, there’s only a little she could bear.

A part of her disliked the fact that she felt more confident about fighting back because the Alpha said he still wanted her as his mate.

She shouldn’t even consider his words, they were usual lines used to deceive unsuspecting desperate females.

He dumped Jade and was now lonely, that was his male urge to have a female by his side, she’d never be used as a side piece again.

She noticed the Lady staring at her clothes jealously, and wondered if that’s why she was being grumpy.

Those clothes wouldn’t be on Laurel’s body if she didn’t anticipate a visitor from Sir Darren that’d heal Bebe.

She was on her way to take them off before the Warrior came looking for her, but surely these clothes weren’t so pretty to spark jealousy in Cara.

Or did she have low self-esteem that could only be improved with habitual praises? That must be why she’s haughty and starved for attention always.

"What side of the bed did you wake up on, Cara dear? Not only do you have horrible bed hair, but you left your intelligence asleep." Laurel wiped her forehead. "Move."

Cara instinctively stepped away, while touching her hair, before realizing and spreading her arms to stop her. She leaned lower.

"Did you just called me ’Cara dear’? I’m older than you, little girl. You should speak really politely to—’"

"What do you want, old lady?" Laurel interrupted. "Do you need my help on something or you want to waste time?"

The Lady’s face grew pale as she remembered the handsome werewolf at the Princess’ quarters that had called her an Aunty.

She touched her face, after Laurel called her old lady and wondered if age was really catching up on her at only twenty-one.

The light cackles of the guard got her attention and she frowned at them. With her attention divided, Laurel sneaked to her back and walked away, yet she noticed the Lady following her.

Was she that bored? "Lady Cara, I don’t have time to play with you. Kindly go to your brother and play those games."

"He’s busy too." She grumbled. "Everyone’s busy."

Laurel slowed her steps. The young lady didn’t even deny wanting to play, she must be the youngest in her family. "If you have nothing to do, return to High Mountains."

Sorren would put her to good use or she’d help serve the guest. Laurel also remembered that their representative hadn’t gone to ask for the alliance with Damancas.

The notice to enter Damancas hadn’t been approved and Laurel felt so would the request for an alliance. Even with Sir Darren’s involvement, Damancas still didn’t want it.

"Princess Laurel."

Laurel glanced at the Princess. The Lady had been adding her title and without the mocking or condescending tone. "What is it? I told you to leave me alone, right?"

"I’d like to know what actually happened with Jade. She had been returned to High Mountains but she didn’t speak of her crime." Lady Cara studied Laurel’s expression.

The only persons she could ask are the maids of that time and Cara asked some guards who said that the Princess had served Jade during the time.

However, to Laurel, that was something she had forgotten about and didn’t have any information to because the Alpha’s household covered it and only the penetrators will know.

That crime involved all the girls at the maid quarters then, so Laurel didn’t even want to speak of it. The straight expression on her face answered everything.

"All we knew was that Lady Jade did something to be in prison. She was said to be deranged and tried to kill herself...? Something like that." She shrugged.

"Who said that?" Lady Cara asked again.

Princess Laurel hesitated before replying. "Prince Sorren, he had told the maids to be careful with her because Jade usually took it out on us when she’s annoyed."

Lady Cara nodded, digesting that piece of information. Jade’s crime was concealed and since it involved the Alpha breaking up with her, it might’ve been serious.

Cara had assumed that Jade had cheated on the Alpha but discarded it since she knew Jade had been crazy about the Alpha. Also, who’d she cheat with?

The other powerful officials were Beta Cade that resented her, Sigma who’s a child and Prince Sorren who didn’t regard her. Cara couldn’t think of what the crime will be.

She stopped walking with Laurel and the Princess exhaled in relief, and increased her steps. She needed to return and let the twins and Zeldris know that she’s well.

On opening the door to the hall, she saw numerous servants of Beta Ferdinand with swords on their waist. They rushed to her. "Should we still attack? Are you safe?"

Her body ran cold. Would they had attacked the palace if she didn’t come on time? Mira and Marino left Zeldris and ran to her, and she held them close.

She answered the servants. "Stand down. I handled it."

These servants, she narrowed her eyes at them, they were all warriors, weren’t they? But too loyal to the young Beta to part with him and join the Green Valleys’ warriors.

And since most of their weapons were magic imbued, they felt like special forces instead of warriors.
