Chapter 270: Magic Residue

Chapter Two Hundred-Seventy – Magic Residue

Zeldris laid on his back, he moved a bit so he wouldn’t affect what she worked on.

"Do you want your knight to get even stronger? Like, you wouldn’t mind if I decide to become a witch, would you?"

It wouldn’t cost him much to be, as he already had a witch’s blood and a resistant to weak magic, he’d be a perfect witch in fact.

He’d take up any measure to ensure he kept on being useful to the Princess and what better way to do it that become a witch that she was worried about.

This will also give him a good edge over those lycans.

Laurel folded the finished mats and stacked them a top each other, her lips curved downwards. "I bet your wolf was so heartbroken to hear that."

In all the books she had read, none had explained what happened to the wolves that got traded for magic. Do they die or turn to the magic?

Turning to the magic was unlikely since the magic abilities were usually very different, so what happened to them?

The clear answer will be their spiritual life was sacrificed for magic to whatever goddess of magic existed. In other words, the werewolf murdered his wolf.

With that notion, Laurel felt uncomfortable around witches that could bear to part with their wolves, she couldn’t.

She turned to Zeldris fully, she might not know what prompted him to think in that direction but she knew he didn’t want to be a witch, or he’d have been long ago.

"They are other ways to be strong, Zeldris. Don’t do anything that you’d regret in the long run." She stated.

The Knight expected the answer and exhaled in relief when he got it. Magic had never been his passion.

"About me being resistant to weak magic, I figured out why." He folded his arms proudly. "I read about it while thinking of ways to help Bebe’s situation."

Laurel arranged the weaves on the mat she made while inching close to him to keep up with his conversation. "Due to your mother’s residue in you?"

Zeldris’s shoulder slumped a bit. She could figure? Was it was a dead giveaway? He nodded with less enthusiasm.

"More accurately is the magic in the residue inside of me, my mother had healing magic and it’s immune to some attacks on the physical body. That’s what happened."

Laurel spared him a glance, a glance filled with disdain. "And that’s why you are a masochist, because you can take a hit but don’t get enough pain, isn’t that right?"

Zeldris looked up with a mild smile. She had cracked another puzzle! "I guess..."

Laurel sighed, shaking her head. "This sort of contradict what you said about Sorren having less magic than you. Either ways he’d have magic in him, right?"

Zeldris shrugged. It still wouldn’t be enough to make him a witch or be noticed and the Prince could use it absentmindedly.

"His mother’s gift was related to spatial awareness, of her surroundings. Not a combat gift of course so it’s considered weak."

Laurel furrowed her brows. In what era was awareness of surroundings ever weak? If she could be aware of her surrounding then that’d be really helpful.

"Also it developed to something of sensing... danger." Zeldris added. "My mother always spoke on how she and her sister had combat avoidant skills." He chuckled.

And that didn’t seem bad to Laurel, the two magic abilities could be used in secret without anyone knowing they’re witches.

But she also understood that they couldn’t really help when there was a unavoidable danger.

The Princess quickly backed away when Zeldris popped up to her face, then she realized he had leaned in and fell. She pulled him off her by his hair.

"S-Sorry..." Zeldris held his burning cheeks. That had totally been an accident. "I-I wanted to ask you..."

Laurel left the ground and sat on her chair, to avoid being on the same eye level with him, before he’d make her commit murder. "Ask me what?"

Zeldris cleared his throat before speaking. "It’s possible Sorren has been using his magic residue in him without knowing. If we make him aware then—"

"I don’t know why you’re so excited to let him know." Laurel frowned. "I am not. Do you know how he’d feel?"

Zeldris had a conflicted expression but it faded quickly. How else was he to prove that they’re family members without telling him something interesting?

The Princess had said that the Prince only cared about interesting things and he didn’t want to fall short.

"You could just tell him that you two are related by stating his mother’s name and asking if he remembered visiting." Laurel suggested. It’s better than being totally honest.

"Well, do you know if he uses his mother’s magic residue." Zeldris changed the topic. "Like is he aware of his surroundings and has—"

"Trust issues?" Laurel’s eyes lit up. She remembered how at the Lycan Packs Meeting, Sorren had felt the atmosphere change and went after directly after Zeno.

Also when he had suspected the carriage rider of being part of the criminals. Many examples began swimming into her head. She nodded at them with a smirk.

So it had been that magic residue at play? Sorren would be able to tell foe from friend then. "He is like that."

Zeldris paused, nodding. Those will seem like a natural trait to the Prince though so no one will be able to tell that it’s influenced by magic.

"The best thing about this is that the magic residue is part of the person so no extra stress in using it so it’d be part of us." Zeldris replied proudly.

Laurel thought he made it sound like an honor when an innocent wolf had to die to achieve that, but in return, it helped that Sorren stay alive.

Perhaps in his fight with the witches, it had helped.

"Witches can’t detect the magic in him, right?" Laurel left her seat, walking towards her room. "Then it’s fine."

She didn’t need this lesson in magic at all.

"Talented witches can."

Laurel froze. They could sense the small residues? If that’s so then if Sorren ever met a witch, they’d know he had a witch parent?
