"Then leave." Laurel turned away.
Zeldris sighed, thoroughly disliking the fast pace of events towards the negative. Where will they find someone else to help Bebe?
He thought of pleading for Alice’s sake but the disdain on the her face only made him want to throw her out himself.
"Get out. There must’ve been a reason Damancas threw you out to Sir Darren." Laurel added.
Alice balled her fists and even dared to take a step towards the Princess but was held back by Zeldris.
"I wasn’t thrown away to Young Master Darren. My mate died so I was sent there to recuperate, you have no—"
"Yes, I have no idea how losing a mate felt but if I was your mate..." Laurel glared at her. "I’d prefer death to staying with you in a fated hell."
Zeldris let go of Alice, staring at the princess. Alice did nothing but glower at the girl in front of her, wanting the words she just heard to be a lie.
How inconsiderate could a Princess to a Kingdom be? Her eyes began to water as she kept her eyes fixated on Laurel, expecting an apology.
The Princess patted her shoulder. "So go back to Sir Darren and keep mourning a mate that left you because of your awful manners. I don’t want you either."
Alice shivered as noticed the Princess’s eyes, there was nothing in them, no light either. Those shouldn’t be the eyes of a loving leader.
Even the King of Damancas had light in his eyes. She looked down. "Th-This is because I said I’d return and your friend will die, right? That’s why... you dare say that."
Laurel folded her arms. Was she supposed to smile and agree with that when she said Bebe will die? Between she and Bebe, her choice should be obvious.
Alice held her aching chest. Those words hurt her, mainly because she didn’t get to know her mate much before his death, so it’s possible he might not have wanted her.
But for the girl to use it to hurt her, she wasn’t a Princess at heart at all, and Alice didn’t want to work with such. She felt her body being pulled back.
"Didn’t you hear the Princess? Get out." Valkyrie pulled her towards the door but stopped. Alice pulled her weight back, stopping Valkyrie.
She shoved her hand away, studying Valkyrie and Zeldris. Despite the Princess being a dark person with no shred of grace, it seemed the officials were loyal to her.
In that case, the pack could work. A Princess that’d go the extra length to protect a pack member and officials that trusted her.
Alice huffed, annoyed at the decision she just made. She bowed, stunning Valkyrie that wanted to pull her out again.
"I’m sorry for my misconduct, Princess. Accept my help in healing your pack member. I will do my best."
Zeldris snapped from his daze. The witch apologized? He rushed to the Princess to plead with her to accept the apology.
"Sure. You can go to Bebe immediately." The Princess immediately accepted, stunning Zeldris. Laurel shrugged.
It wasn’t as if she had a second option, she only acted that way so Alice wouldn’t get too comfortable being rude to the Green Valleys’ Lead Warrior like that.
Zeldris tried to leave with Alice but Valkyrie’s blocked him. "Stay with the Princess till this guest leave, in case."
Alice frowned. This was the second time this girl said something accusatorily right to her face. Did she always speak her mind out?
"What will happen if you’re not able to heal Bebe, though?" Laurel asked.
The witch hesitated before replying, picking her words carefully so she wouldn’t seem weak.
"As I said, this is a Grand Witch’s magic so I don’t get punished for failing, in fact it’s likely that I’d fail—"
"I’m sure the Princess asked you that while hoping you have a second plan." Zeldris explained. "Or you know someone who’s better than you."
Alice took a step back from Zeldris as he said that. She exhaled, in seemingly defeat. "I think if that didn’t work, we should wait for the other Grand Witch coming."
An alarm rang in Laurel’s heard on hearing that. Another Grand Witch was on their way? Before she could get more information, Alice walked towards the door.
"But I’m not a lost cause so I might be able to handle it." She said before walking out the door.
Valkyrie nodded at the Princess before running behind Alice but Laurel doubted Valkyrie will be able to get information from her after their tension here.
"Did you know about the other Grand Witches?" she faced Zeldris, who looked away. He did know, didn’t he?
"You know we should always be more informed than Black Claws so that we can protect them from this witches." She sat down on the ground.
Zeldris understood what she meant but the way she said it made him conflicted but he didn’t deny, his cousin was part of those lycans now.
"They are other Grand Witches. I have no clue how many as they may reach that level or fall from the level, within ten years." He explained. "I don’t know the one to come."
Laurel kept half of her focus on what she weaved while thinking. The new Grand Witch might support Ella’s mother to attack lycans.
From what Zeldris had said, a Grand Witch’s power could’ve easily killed Stefan and Sorren, so two Grand Witches could fall Green Valleys.
These was becoming more than just the lycans.
Zeldris noticed the Princess’s expression even if she seemed to be working squarely on the kid’s mat. He touched her hand but she didn’t react.
Did Alice threat get to her? Knowing there’s a witch who didn’t like her or could destroy her pack must be hard. "Princess Laurel?"
He noticed her smile.
"You’ve been adding the ’Laurel’ recently. What is it?"
Zeldris smiled back. "Well," he laid on his back. "do you want your knight to get even stronger? Like, you wouldn’t mind if I decide to become a witch, would you?"
