Chapter 263: The Young Genius
Chapter Two Hundred-Sixty-Three – The Young Genius
Thales snapped from his thoughts when his back was forced to a hard surface and Zara’s arm slammed on the wall by his side.
His breathing hitched as she leaned over him, peering into his eyes. "I asked you a question, Thales."
At that point, he took notice of her clothes. That skimpy attire those traveling dancers wore? The small red linen pants and tight top, with a silver rope of bells.
It caused a knot to tie in his stomach when he saw how fitting they were on her. He dragged his eyes to her face. "I trust you but I also need to do something."
"Something more importantly than us, me, this place?"
She made things harder, but that’s what he’d expect from his Master’s demanding daughter. He forced himself to nod so she’d understand. "It’s truly important."
Zara’s eyes widened, then reduced to a slant. She left him, folding her arms and turning away.
Thales would’ve preferred being in that position for longer but brushed the thought away. "The charms I gave you will always be effective."
"It’s you I want, not the charms." Zara huffed.
Thales rubbed his face from heating up and blowing up. He knew his Lady didn’t mean it in a romantic way.
She used simple and direct words to convey romance and would be open if she meant it that way, also she sometimes used romantic gestures for platonic situations.
"I’m sorry that I can’t give you what you want." He rubbed his neck. "But if I am able to, I’d come back to you."
The Lady sighed, turning to him with a defeated expression. Thales smiled widely, hoping she’d feel better. If he didn’t need to, he’d never go.
"You never told me more about yourself and now you’re leaving." Zara plopped down on a soft pile of clothes.
Thales hummed, looking up. Basic facts about him that wouldn’t reveal too much? "Well, I’m twenty-five, without a mate, hate cats and is a young genius witch."
Zara’s jaw fell, before she frowned. "I didn’t know you were six years older than me? And hey, you hate cats?!"
He smiled, then it disappeared. It’s probably not what she wanted to say, but he couldn’t say the truth. She might’ve accepted a witch because she needed to hide that truth.
But being a Grand Witch was different.
"Goodbye, Lady Zara. Extend my farewell to the Beta, I regret not being able to tell him myself." He made a small bow.
Zara sighed, accepting that there was nothing she could do to change his mind. He probably had a moment where he had to represent by all means.
"Will you at least watch me present a dance to my father this evening?" she raised a brow. "It’d be an eat and drink."
Thales smirked. Did she forget that she was his servant to? "So you’d drug my meal and drink specially and lock me up so I wouldn’t leave?"
The Lady clicked her tongue and Thales smiled, low key enjoying the efforts she’s willing to put to keep him close.
If he didn’t have a duty to Damancas, the recently awakened Grand Witch and the Witch Order, he’d never leave this peaceful place.
If he worked hard, he could make the King and Nero lose their memories of ever seeing him and get to stay.
"Well then..." he climbed the window.
Zara left where she sat, rushing to the window to see him use his magic for the last time. She watched him jump off, but defied gravity to stay afloat.
"Goodbye then, starlight." A spark of flame flashed in his hands and kept glowing as it swam in the air into her room. Zara’s eyes followed it till it disappeared.
"Is that heat..." she looked back and he was gone. "...magic?" she stared at her palms with a deep sigh.

When one Grand Witch exist within five or six regions away from the other, it’s customary for the close Grand Witches to meet and exchange greetings.
The Legendary Witch made this law so that the Grand Witches could be friendly with each other no matter what.
Darren was well aware, but why should the Grand Witch coming to see Ella’s mother be the young genius Thales?!
He was the calmest but very controversial with his beliefs that no lycan who saw him should live to tell, and he had a good control of many elements.
If he acted brash towards Ella’s mother, Darren feared they’d be nothing he’d be able to do to stop them.
The young genius had been Goddess-knows-where for three years after the closest Grand Witch to him disappeared, their meeting will definitely be tense.
"Um... this message came to you when?" he raised the letter in his hands for Alice to see.
She stopped cleaning the windows and smiled. "It’s been on a bird that perched my window for long. It’s when I checked carefully that I saw it had a letter."
Darren exhaled. She wasn’t even careful, what kind of wife would she make for him other than a hypertension giver? He looked back at the letter.
Still, for the young genius to politely send a letter to the closest witch he spotted around the Grand Witch, showed he had some manners.
Maybe he changed a bit after those three years.
"And it showed the Grand Witch is close to us now." Darren left where he sat. Zeldris had also informed him that the witch might be around Rolling Stones too.
If they waited for the young genius to arrive, he’d quickly spot her, but to help Ella’s mother save face and be with Ella before duty called, they had to find her first.
"Tomorrow, you, me, Ella, will find her." He sipped from his tea. "And if you sleep late again, I’d use the whip."
Alice glanced at him. "You wouldn’t."
His silence replied her so she exhaled. He would, so she better sleep early or she might have to bite him.
