Chapter Two Hundred-Sixty-Four – Detailed Version
Zeldris made quick glances at Bebe as they walked towards the Beta’s mansion that she’d be staying at, he halted when she stopped walking.
"What is it?"
"You’re really only sixteen?" the disbelief laid evident in his tone. Why the hell was all the ladies around him less than twenty-five and perhaps twenty-two?
It had stunned him to figure that Jessika, the seasoned cook was only nineteen, and the Lead Warrior was twenty. He had really respected them as older and experienced.
And then Lisa, that he guessed was eighteen due to her closeness with the Princess was only fifteen. He could’ve guessed with her small body but he assumed it’s genetic.
Could it all be after the raid that they had to step up and protect themselves? After all, most of their male warriors became loyal to their captors, they only had themselves.
At many packs, the female members do not bother about building rank unless they’re an official’s child and yet again, only a good enough rank like warrior, period.
But the girls at Green Valleys train hard to go beyond.
"You girls are really strong." He continued walking. "I’m not the kind of person to create my own path if I meet a bad fate. It’s embarrassing but I might just give up."
He remembered how he descended to sorrow and slavery after his family and friends were attacked, if not for the Princess, Lisa and Jessika, he’d never recover.
"Well, you were raised by a witch who’s loyal to a Grand Witch so she’d probably not be about creating your own path and all that." Bebe chuckled.
Zeldris frowned a little but relaxed. Looking back, his mother might’ve joined the Grand Witch’s entourage out of frustration of having no where else.
Her sister had abandoned her and her mate gone, being alone with a son and magic so she saw being a Grand Witch’s entourage as a better choice.
"Um... I wanted to apologize... for convincing you to go there and you got attacked." He kept his hand behind him. "The example I made with my aunt was even false."
Bebe raised a brow. "How?"
"Well, she abandoned my mother and her pack but she married someone powerful and had a solid position within the pack. She died with loved ones too." He explained.
He didn’t stay much on the topic so she’d not ask for an identity. "I’m sorry that my motivation didn’t work."
Bebe found how he worded it hilarious. His motivation was that she should try and she did that, it wasn’t his fault that the people didn’t listen.
The incident with the witch was totally unexpected too.
"Your advice wasn’t the problem, the fact that I couldn’t talk to them and they listen was the problem." She rubbed her temples. "They listened to Prince Sorren though. That’s one who was born to be impactful."
Zeldris turned to her, he didn’t think the Prince would’ve contributed to protect the pack of the Alpha that hurt him.
"I need tips on how to be leader like. Got any advice?"
Zeldris chuckled softly, shaking his head. "I am no leader actually, I’m pretty laidback for that. But maybe try being more beautiful to attract the male warriors."
He meant that as a joke but he saw her thinking carefully about it, then clasped her hands together.
"That’s close to what Prince Sorren had told me. I guess my physical appearance is the problem." She touched her dark hair and flung it back.
The Knight didn’t expect the Prince to have such sense of humor but he worried he joked to the extent of making the girl question her confidence so naturally.
He noticed that too, even the Princess never accepted compliments about her appearances even if she was the most eye pleasing lady he had seen.
It was rare seeing ladies value strength and leadership over beauty. "How can you describe that Prince Sorren?"
Bebe’s eyes expanded. "You want the full detailed version? Apparently I haven’t seen his bare body so..."
Zeldris placed a hand on her head so she’d stop. He didn’t need any detailed version, even if he got curious what that’d be.
And bare body? She sounded more like a pervert than the girls accused him of being. "In one line, what’s he like?"
Bebe looked conflicted and stopped walking to think. "I’d say an ethereal ball of chaos who’s addicted to farming."
Very contradictory words put together. A Prince addicted to farming? Zeldris had no explanation why.
"Though, the Princess might’ve a better and darker version of the Prince." Bebe shrugged. "I try not to let it bother me though. Even Lisa said so."
That peeked Zeldris’s interest. "Said what?"
Bebe exhaled and continued walking. "That the Prince has a sadistic side and sometimes organized death matches. The loser’s corpse fertilizes his farm."
Shivers ran down Zeldris’s spine countless times as he tried to digest what she just said. The Prince being sadistic might not be surprising but his idea of fertilizers were.
"And you don’t believe it?" he scowled at Bebe. She really liked being in denial because why will Lisa make that up?
He exhaled, brushing it to the back of his head and being determined to find out his own theory of Prince Sorren.
They reached the Beta’s mansion and the servants sized her up before opening the gate. Zeldris really disliked how condescending and territorial they were.
The Princess already told them that they were coming so they should be spraying red roses at their arrival instead.
A lady Zeldris recognized as the maiden that nearly suffocated him to death stood at the door, blocking it.
"Miss Bebe, my Young Master said we should test you before your entrance into his chambers." Another lady join her. "The both of us will have a spar with you."
Zeldris snapped his head from the two ladies to Bebe. What was that Beta doing? Didn’t he know that Bebe just recovered from a traumatic event?
But then that young boy had the sensitivity of a dead horse, even when he dealt with him. "The Princess wouldn’t like this, and you know it."
The Ladies bowed. "We will never disobey the Princess. However the Young Miss will be an Alpha someday, is it not? What harm is there in sparring with us?"
Zeldris wanted to refute again but Bebe stepped forward. "I’d do it!" even if her body still ached from whatever the Alpha did to her when she lost her consciousness.
She had to be strong, even if she broke herself to do it.
