Chapter 262: I’m Leaving
Chapter Two Hundred-Sixty-Two – I’m Leaving
(High Moon Kingdom, Delta Zara’s Quarters)
Three male servants ran into a large courtyard with white and black ribbons tied on the gate, there were sounds of celebration from inside.
The male servants ran into a hall, disrupting the celebration and earning the stares of everyone.
The beautiful dancer and star of the celebration, Lady Zara, frowned as the drummers stopped drumming. Her eyes darkened on the servants who froze.
"H-Head Servant Thales is back. Th-That’s what we came to report." One of the them stuttered, looking down.
The other two followed, hanging their head low as they were glared at by the other servants in the room.
Suddenly they were joined together in a hug and their faces were smashed on Zara’s soft chest. "He really came back?" slight panic flashed on her face.
The other servants snapped from their daze and began arranging the hall to how it was before the impromptu celebration because their Lady got bored.
Zara paced around dragging the three young servants with her, their faces were still on her chest. None complained.
"Head Servant Thales!"
Zara released them when she heard someone yell, she arranged the clothes on her body. "You guys too! Return to your posts!"
The three servants saluted with red faces, one had a nosebleed. "Yes, Lady Zara!" and they ran out.
Zara sprinted out of the hall, the small bells on her waist dangling noisily. She kept her mind link opened for Thales message, that’s usually their medium of communication.
"Lady Zara. I have bad news."
Zara stopped moving, standing in the middle of the courtyard with tilted head. She couldn’t see him yet.
Then she heard one of the servants shouting apologies at the stables, the Head Servant must be scolding him. She smiled, walking towards the stables.
"My father is okay, right?" she asked in mind link.
Thales hummed. "The answer is subjective. I have annoyed the King and yes, he knows that I wield magic and that I’m your servant. I am truly sorry—"
Zara waved her hand in dismissal, appearing in front of him and frightening the servant that got scolded. "Don’t care about that King, just tell me the details!"
The servant bowed and rushed to correct his mistakes.
Thales gazed at the ground. The details wouldn’t be easily digested by his Lady, after all, she really didn’t know of his involvement with Lunaria.
He gave her magic items and satisfied her curiosity about magic, that he did because of his feelings for her and to prevent her from getting involved in the coming feud.
But the King figuring him out was an immediate danger that she could get caught in, if he didn’t leave.
"Well, summary will be that I need to leave." Thales said out loud, walking towards the kitchen to give his last orders to the chefs.
Zara stood rooted to the ground, a scowl slowly came to her face. Didn’t she ask him for ’details’ not a ’summary’? "Thales, you’ve never been good with jokes."
He sighed, feeling regrettable that she didn’t accept it. He wished it was a joke but it’s reality, a reality that he knew would come sooner or later. He was a witch anyway.
It’s best to leave before the King realized that he wasn’t a bred lycan with magic, but a werewolf witch and a Grand Witch at that.
That psychotic King would do anything to get him to be a test subject in his lab and it wouldn’t end well.
Destroying the King of Lycan was a feat that could only happen when the next in line has been secured.
"Thales, what do you mean by that!" Zara held his collar pulling his face to hers. The action stunned him and his feelings made his ears heat up.
"What do you mean by you’re leaving!" Zara stared down at him. They were close to the kitchen and the cooks peaked in, listening on the conversation.
"I-I... it’s just..." he freed himself from her hold when she released him. "It’s easier this way. I don’t want you getting in trouble with... him." He desisted from saying ’the King’.
The area they stayed belonged to the Beta and all the servants there lived within, and were like family.
They could spread the news and get trouble if he spoke carelessly. He lived with them for three years so grew attached and more.
He didn’t want to cause trouble for the group of lycans that changed his violent and animalistic view of lycans.
Zara pulled his arm towards her room, and he had to follow. "Repeat what you said—"
"It wouldn’t change." He interrupted, rubbing his wrist that her grip tightened on. "I’d leave to protect you all. The Beta kept a werewolf in his district. You even figured that I was a witch yet let me stay. It’s too much trouble."
He did his best not to look at her face. Many didn’t know, apart from the servants in her courtyard, but Lady Zara was really sensitive.
Even the death of a dear horse could make her down and she’d mount candles on their grave for days. He didn’t want to hurt her like that but things turned differently.
"So because you are a werewolf and witch, and that stupid Asher found out, you have to leave? Don’t you trust my father and I to protect you!"
He could hear her voice already breaking. He frowned at the ground, his head being unable to raise. He hated this, he shouldn’t have gotten involved with Lunaria.
However, he would’ve still left her.
Another Grand Witch had awakened, and he need to send greetings and report to their Leader and the King of Damancas.
Whatever Lunaria was planning will involve Damancas and their witches so he needed to be there, at least to make sure the plan didn’t kill the innocent.
Many witches thought with their brutal magic when lycans are mentioned, and not all lycans at High Moon Kingdom needed to die. Actually, just a handful.
Like many other Kingdoms, the aura of a Kingdom matched with the aura of it’s King. High Moon Kingdom just needed a new King.
