Chapter 256: Never Existed
Chapter Two Hundred-Fifty-Six – Never Existed
Why did a man bother to look that beautiful?
Zeldris kept his distance from Sorren, even inside the house, he stole glances at him seated on his table then looked away when Laurel turned to him.
Laurel wondered what sort of embarrassment consumed Zeldris that his cheeks reddened for no reason. Her eyes shifted to Sorren, then a glint flashed in them.
She smirked, inching close to Zeldris. "Uncomfortable around pretty boys, are you? I understand."
Zeldris scoffed but said nothing. He’d accept that Jessika and Lisa’s descriptions weren’t over exaggerations but that’d make the Prince a snob.
"This is your first time here, right, Princess?" Sorren tossed a read notice into a basket. "Should I serve you something?"
That request striked Zeldris’s idea of him being a snob and he hated feeling conflicted. The Prince might be nice enough to offer them something.
Laurel looked up, touching her stomach. "I don’t know if your food will be edible. A good sense in clothes isn’t the same as making edible food, you know."
Zeldris snapped his head at the Princess. Why did she throw jabs at the Prince suddenly?
Sorren huffed. "I’d save you the stress then. I did plan to give you something inedible anyway. Let’s go."
Laurel left with him and Zeldris stood there feeling more conflicted. The Prince didn’t hesitate to jab back. Was this the friendship the Princess said she had with him?
He snapped from his thoughts and ran along. No matter what, he was the enemy of their pack so he shouldn’t smile and laugh with him like the Princess bare to do.
She might detest him deep down but act jovial with him to keep the peace. He found them walking into a section with houses, he sped there.
Sorren noticed the presence behind him, he turned to Laurel. "Your bodyguard, I suppose, already clocked the Delta rank. Why haven’t you?"
Laurel threw her face away, she had hoped he’d never remember that assignment he gave her. She wanted to work hard towards it, but problems kept springing up.
Also, she became less motivated after getting the pack back from Black Claws, she didn’t need to be physically powerful anymore to achieve anything.
Now, she worked hard on reading about politics and battle strategy as the new leader of her pack. "W-Well, we’d get there... someday."
Sorren made a ’hmm’ sound, then referred to the one behind him. "When she becomes Delta ranked, she’d have no use of you, you know."
Zeldris’s conflicted feelings towards him became clear, he disliked his guts. Strangely, he didn’t feel intense emotion apart from the annoyance. "I will get strong too."
Sorren smirked. "You should, or you’d be boring."
Laurel exhaled. Sorren was just baiting her knight, wasn’t he? The only ones he found interesting were the strong ones so he made all around him like that.
His desire was quite ironic for one who hated violence.
They reached the Black Thorns community and Sorren gestured for the guards to let them in. "You didn’t say who you were looking for, but I assume she’s werewolf, right?"
Laurel looked at the other path that led to the lycan part of the place. Zeldris’s cousin masked as a lycan, but could she have already found a place with the werewolves?
Sorren followed her line of sight. What did she want to do with the lycan community? "You really want to go there?"
Laurel nodded firmly. They had to leave all stones unturned, for Bebe’s sake. Sorren moved towards the lycan community, with a worried expression.
Many of the Lycans there disliked that the Princess lived and while they might not publicly show their displeasure, it’d be a hard environment to find someone.
Laurel noticed the young girls glaring at her as she walked past, and she concluded that it was either because she’s the Green Valleys princess or because of Sorren.
Either ways, she didn’t care, she didn’t come for them.
A tall blond man strolled towards them and Laurel noticed Sorren’s steps slow down. She could feel he was a powerful lycan, and was quite the handsome man.
On closer look, when the lycan stopped in front of Sorren, Laurel noted that he seemed to have aged a bit.
"Elder Dikkes. I’ve returned so you’re free from the painful duty of handling the pack. If you want more ways to torture yourself, my farm is open." Sorren continued ahead.
Laurel hesitated, staring at the Elder whose eyes were ahead. He stopped in front of Sorren but said nothing till he spoke and left? Then she heard him chuckling.
Zeldris bent down to her ears and whispered. "I think the Elder likes the Prince’s vitriolic words. I do, somewhat."
Laurel snapped her head at him and hurried out of the Elder’s presence. Masochistic freaks everywhere, but they’re probably the type that suit Sorren.
She noticed Zeldris stay back to speak with the Elder and she felt surprised that the lycan Elder spoke freely. Even Zeldris seemed relaxed with him.
She looked forward, hoping to ask him about it later. "Sorren, you don’t even know who we’re looking for, do you? So why do you go ahead—"
"Huh?" he faced her, raising his voice since they had a distance between them. "I helped you get in here, so do your business. I’m trying to meet the Elders."
Laurel scowled. Why didn’t he say that when he noticed her following him about? She huffed, turning back, and looking around.
Zeldris was still with the Elder and without him, she wouldn’t know what the cousin looked like. She heard Zeldris yell, pausing for a second, then his head fell low.
"What happened?" she immediately asked in mind link.
The Elder patted Zeldris’s shoulders before walking away. Laurel took steps towards Zeldris. "What happened?" she asked out loud.
Zeldris had a distant expression which became focused when the Princess came close. "I-I did suspect when we met though but..." he raised his head. "Let’s go back."
Laurel frowned. What about the girl? What did he discuss with the Elder? But his expression... she nodded.
He might have a good reason, which he’d say when he’s better. "She isn’t dead, is she?"
Zeldris hummed then shook his head. "It seems she... never even existed."
