Chapter 255: Guilty
Chapter Two Hundred-Fifty-Five – Guilty
Since Laurel heard the warriors talk about Prince Sorren returning to High Mountains, she had searched for Zeldris to hitch a ride back so they’d search for his cousin.
It was after many hours that she heard he had stayed at the prison despite Valkyrie telling me that the Princess said he could return.
Laurel didn’t think he’d be that worried over Bebe that he seemed to argue with a lot. The news that Bebe had been locked up had shocked them all to the core.
None of them wanted to have anything to do with prisons after surviving the maid quarters that was second only to the prison life. Laurel could confirm.
Bebe’s strange situation could only be caused by magic and it made the others wary about going close, in case the magic was like a transferable disease.
The witch’s location was unknown so there was only one solution Laurel could think about. Finding Zeldris’s cousin that was a witch.
She reached the prison and sighted Zeldris, rested on the wall. She sped to him, holding a wrapped bean cake in both hands and presented it like a gift.
He fell back, but hit the wall, before his shocked expression turned to a smile. "Princess, did you sleep well? I hope you didn’t miss me too—"
Laurel placed a hand on his shoulders, slapping it lightly. "I slept the best knowing you weren’t close."
Zeldris playfully shoved her hand aside, and grabbed the snack. She chuckled at his reaction.
He wouldn’t know she had no idea he camped outside the prison. She noticed the flattened grass he must have laid at on the ground.
"I feel guilty," Zeldris stared at the bean cake in his hand, "because I was the one who encouraged her to go there and it triggered something."
Triggered? Laurel glanced at him. If Bebe’s case was triggered then couldn’t they remove what caused the trigger and then it’d solve the problem?
Or magic couldn’t be so simple? "I have a feeling it was on the day she was captured by the Alpha. I thought it was another unstable magic effect."
Zeldris shook his head. The Grand Witch might not have had to do much to turn Bebe into that. He probably used psychology and the rage already in Bebe.
"Bebe hates her, right?"
Laurel nodded in response.
"I think she manipulated Bebe’s hatred for her to Sorren, or to anyone Bebe cared for most, at that point. If it’s the latter, then Bebe might attack you if you meet her."
Laurel’s lips separated as she stared at Zeldris, she got back her composure and exhaled. Was it that bad?
That meant the magic in Bebe wouldn’t fade off unless acted upon by a reliable external source.
She still couldn’t place when and how the witch had done it to Bebe but Bebe might know if they could speak to her.
"This is a convenient option but now it seemed like the only option," she kept her hands on her waist, "we need another witch to help us."
Zeldris nodded firmly. "Sir Darren..."
Laurel raised her hand, shaking her head in the negative. "We should give him space for a while."
Jessika had told her about the note Sir Darren sent to her that night. Sorren had tried to uncover his connection with witches, on his visit last night.
Since she had asked Sorren about inviting a witch at Green Valleys, Laurel wanted to avoid Sir Darren so it wouldn’t look like he had suggested that to her.
Also, she wanted to try handling some cases by herself so she’d not get relax and depend on Sir Darren always.
"Let’s go to High Mountains," she held Zeldris’s hand, "and find your cousin who’s a witch. That’s the next move."
If they find her and bring her to Green Valleys, naturally she’d be their personal resident witch and she’d help handle whatever happened to Bebe.
If she had no clue as it was done by a superior witch, then she’d be their connection to Damancas where they’d find the help they need.
The Princess strutted out quickly and as thought. More horrible things could be happening to Bebe in there, or she was having a violent episode since she had no target.
Either ways, the faster they handled it, the better. As Bebe was an important figure in the negotiation with Rolling Stones so she must visit them occasionally.
She sighted the lycan head guard at the post, she moved to Zeldris’s left pushing him away from the head guard. She locked eyes with the guard but he looked away.
Good, she thought. He should know his place and not be an unnecessary distraction because with Zeldris current mood, it wouldn’t end well.
It was a quick walk to High Mountains, Laurel saw the l carriage that had carried Sorren, returning to Green Valleys.
She had given a notice to him as he left so she’d be allowed to come in, but if he only reached now, he probably hadn’t given his warriors instructions.
"Will you be able to identify your cousin if you see her?" she asked as they reached the border. "We might need Prince Sorren to help us search."
She just had to raise a very convincing lie that Sorren would believe or not bother to crosscheck.
The warriors narrowed their eyes at her, before reluctantly moving away for her to pass. Her attire and the crown on her head said enough.
Also, the plagued green eyes that Laurel didn’t know marked her amongst the warriors. The warriors glared at her as she walked in and Zeldris didn’t like the attention.
"Prince Sorren!" Laurel let go of Zeldris and ran towards the Prince’s quarters. Sorren paused, then frowned a bit.
"I haven’t even seen the notice and you’re here." He dragged his eyes from her to the young man glaring at him, then he continued inside his quarters.
Laurel gestured for Zeldris to come, and disappeared into the quarters. Zeldris rolled his eyes as he entered the building.
Why did a man bother to look that beautiful?
