Chapter Twenty-Five – Disappointed
Laurel clutched her stomach, tightly. What was happening to her? Her eyes were getting dizzy.
Sorren looked back into the prison as she called his attention. His eyes widened. "Blood?"
She spat out clots of blood and her stomach felt like it was turning over. She crouched on the ground. "What... did you... give to me?"
It was definitely what she just ate that was messing with her stomach over. Was she going to die? Did she get poisoned? Why would Sorren poison her?
Sorren was temporarily paralyzed. "Blood...?" he mouthed. "She’s... bleeding?"
Flashbacks whiffed past his mind of the last time he saw someone bled before him. It brought pain so he shook the memories and rushed to Laurel.
"Why are you bleeding? Did you... bite your tongue?"
Did he think she’d bleed this bad if she bit her tongue? Or was he acting oblivious to the poison he kept in the food? She collapsed just as she felt herself being carried by him.
"If you die, then my brother would try to follow you. And I don’t want that." Those were the last words Laurel heard before passing out.
Sorren turned to the lunchbox. Did she accidentally eat poison? Surely, that guard wouldn’t dare poison her when he was around. Could it be a reaction to what she ate?
"Women are so fragile." he scoffed, carrying her out of the prison. He mind linked to the closest person he could find but unfortunately, it was Cade.
"That oaf wouldn’t help me. What is he doing in here?" He curved towards the door and halted.
His eyeballs shook at the sight in front of him. His skin crawled with disgust too. Blood, more blood.
The guard that left, and had given Laurel the meal, was in a pool of his own blood. Cade had a confused expression.
"D... Did you kill him? Why did you kill him?!" Sorren shouted. "Now how do I know what he did to her?!"
The corners of Cade’s lips bent as he saw Laurel being carried by Sorren. And Sorren actually raising his voice? What in hell was going on? "Don’t yell at me. I didn’t..."
"Oh, Goddess! Cade, was it also you who sent the guard to poison her? And you’re trying to clean your tracks?" Sorren sounded disappointed.
It awfully angered Cade. "I said I didn’t do anything!"
"Tell that to your Alpha." Sorren walked past him.
Cade watched him leave then glared at the corpse below him. Why’s he being dragged into whatever was going on?
The guard had tried taking his identification sword from his waist but he caught him. The sword was given to him by Sorren so meant a lot to him.
Also identification swords were items officials of the pack had and used as a stamp to make orders.
Sorren hated violence so didn’t want a sword, he didn’t want to be the official Beta either so gave all the title and sword to Cade who never expected the gesture.
It was obvious the guard wanted to steal the sword to make orders to his fellow guards and play around.
All Cade did was take it back, but surprisingly, the guard fought back, leading to his death. "I don’t even understand why I came here in the first place."
He was looking for Sorren and followed his scent to the prison yet found him carrying that prisoner? What’s wrong with today? He stomped out of the prison hall.
The metallic smell of blood followed him making him feel guilty. "Was that prisoner really poisoned? Who did it?"
Stefan frowned when someone barged into his room just when he was about taking his bath but his mouth fell when he saw Laurel on Sorren.
What was with her and skin touch with other males? "Is that the point? Our mate is hurt!" Kai snapped at him.
Stefan noticed the line of blood spilling from the corner of her lips. He rushed to Sorren and laid her on his bed. "Give her anti poison medications." Sorren ordered.
Stefan nodded without questions and searched his drug box. If Jade walked in now, he’d be so done for.
"I’d tell a maid to bring in more medicine while keeping the others from here. You’d handle everything. Don’t worry, she’d be fine." Sorren explained.
Stefan was glad his brother understood the situation. And did he notice how pale he looked due to unfound fears? He shouldn’t feel those for his enemy’s daughter.
He held Sorren back as he attempted to leave. "What the hell happened? What did she have to do with poison?"
"I... I’m not sure. I’d investigate. But we might need to take her out of prison for good." Then Sorren sped out.
Take her out of prison for good? Where will he keep her that Jade wouldn’t suspect that he was going easy on her?
He sighed, feeding the antipoison drug to Laurel. It’s so easy for Sorren to suggest those things when he wasn’t the one running things or will be the one being questioned.
Laurel suddenly gagged as the drug went down her throat. The action frightened Stefan and he became more conscious of her.
Quickly, he kept a pillow under her head to aid the drug go down her throat and he fed her water.
As he took a small cloth to wipe her mouth, he paused – Why was he going through all these trouble? If he killed her here and now then it’d all end?
"Lycan Packs Meeting is in few weeks time. I don’t have the luxury to have such a nuisance in my life."
Still he couldn’t being himself to kill her. He felt like a disappointment. He wiped off the blood around her mouth and neck, with a straight face.
Did his little brother see all these? That one hated blood.
Noticing the clots of blood, and the small patches of skin Laurel spat out, Stefan frowned. She might not have been poisoned.
It looked like poisoning but she was just fed a drug that broke down her stomach walls and clot her blood hence the bleeding and pain but after gagging out, her body would heal and be restored. She was the daughter of an Alpha anyway so her healing should be impressive.
These were drugs that were usually used to fake death and some extreme ones could fake a heart attack. "Was this a prank then?" Stefan wondered.
He was sure Laurel wouldn’t play such a prank on herself and she wouldn’t have the means to. Also, those kind of drugs weren’t very common within these places.
There must have been an external hand in this.
"I can’t even place what the goal of this bastard is." He muttered, tossing the cloth soaked in Laurel’s blood into a bowl of water.
(Author’s note: Who do you think poisoned Laurel? And why did they)
